Re: User name is not set
Randy,
In a way I think it is the appendix of Groups.io - its utility lost in the misty past. A user who sets one has a "friendly" URL that brings you to their group profile. For example: It used to be that there was also an URL for one's account profile, but that no longer seems to work: It originally marked the difference between one having a publicly visible profile, or one that only you can see. (Full Name later got changed to Display Name) There was some talk, in the discussion of "anonymous" groups, that it would be sent in the From field of emails, and/or be shown in the group's Members list, in place of the user's actual email address. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAnother hijacked topic. Can anyone answer the original question regarding User Name? Randy T ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Paul Ohio USA via Groups.Io
Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2018 2:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GMF] User name is not set ? Hi All, Paul, Ohio, USA We have 3400+ members and Yahoo will only export the first 1000. Apparently, the only way to export the remaining members would be to delete the first thousand. So I tried a workaround that, well, didn¡¯t work. |

Re: Direct Add before Easy Transfer

Duane,
If people join here before a transfer, I don't think the files and photos will be connected to them once those are done.? That's not a problem. Unless they joined under a different email address than they had in the Y!group. ? If the owner isn't 'found', they get attributed to the group owner. That's what happens when the email address associated with that content isn't present in the Groups.io group at the time that content transferred over. Subscribing ahead of the transfer isn't a problem. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: File/Folder Security
I don't believe there's an option to allow anyone other than the file owner (uploader) and moderators to edit/delete them.? For information that you'd like to allow everyone to change, a database is the only way I know of, provided it's set up that way.

Re: Bouncing

-------Original Message-------
?
? How is bouncing email handled here at the groups? Is there such a thing as bouncing and hard bouncing? I have two members who are bouncing right now. One has a red button with a B on it and the other has a blue one with a B on it. Does the system send them a warning when they begin to bounce and I thought I saw somewhere that groups.io automatically unsubs someone when they are bouncing. I'm just wondering how many emails are allowed to bounce before they get a system message and before they are automatically unsubbed, if that is the case? Thanks! -- Marie Alline

email addresses already present in your group (those you added) won't get copied. Meaning that their original Y!Group join date, delivery settings, and Posting Privileges won't get copied.Shal -
Thanks for the clarification.? If I'm reading the Direct Add directions right, Y!Group 'delivery' setting can be added with Direct Add by having one of the three designations ( digest, summary, or nomail ) at the end of the line after email address.? Since Y! exports that information with the member list export, that shouldn't be a problem, though I'll have to edit the text in the export to one of the three designations expected here; and blank out 'individual emails', since that seems to be the default.? My main concern is that other content - mainly files, photos and old messages - be available here after the conversion. I'm not sure many people consider 'join date' significant, and few have non-default 'posting privileges', which it looks like I can manually set.? ?
When I went to capture this I noticed that now 2 attachments have been deleted????As I indicated previously in this thread, deleting photos out of the Emailed Photos folder -- no matter how trivial -- will show up as an "attachment deletion" edit for all affected messages.

... would there be any downside if I were to jump-start our new community group by using Direct Add?
They might, or might not, be annoyed to have to go set themselves to Digest again (or whatever); you might, or might not, be annoyed at having to put them back on moderation again (or whatever). You'll have to judge that for your own group.

members don't pay attention to the subject and send info that is unrelated to the topic. Can the conversation grouping be disabled? I.E. can each message show independently?

Win,
? While I understand the desire to "just put stuff (images, etc.) in as an attachment ...
my own personal 'reality test' is that if a poster isn't willing to take the time to
Upload something to Files or Photos ... then they shouldn't expect that whatever
they put in as an attachment has any more "permanence" than the message
itself.
? That said - it would seem to me that if an image is in a message (post) then
it should "survive as long as the message survives".? I think that the way
attachments work is that groups.io actually stores the images in the Photos
folder ... but it doesn't keep track of whether it was uploaded or sent as an
attachment.
? So, without adding that info "some how" it would seem that if we had a
"delete by date" or some other such manner that we might have what we
need?
Shal,
? This can open up the proverbial can of worms.? One owner/moderator/user
wants delete this way, the next one that way, etc. ... and it can be hard to
-simply- add deleting images/whatever thru any other method that doing
it individually.? Which, to my way of thinking, makes ownership/moderation
SIGnificantly more difficult/time consuming.
