Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

The man who initiates the transfer is on vacation and will not be back until tomorrow. It may take a little more time than usual due to most likely a back log of transfer requests. Keep in mind that a lot of groups are transferring now due to the problems at Yahoo groups. Be patient a few more days. I'm sure Mark will get back to you as soon as he can. Also keep checking your members list at Yahoo for the email address ([email protected]) and when you see it, make sure to make it a mod so it can have access for the transfer. Because of Yahoo email problems, I never got the notice. It was just there. You can then go back to the process and look for the next step. If the button is there to continue the process, just click it and continue. If not, you may have to wait another day or two, but keep checking it. The hardest part of the process I thought was just waiting for the transfer. Another thing to check, is to be sure none of your members are bouncing or on no mail before the transfer starts.

Reply Vs Reply-all
PACC Admin
Hi, new to this product and experimenting as replacement to Yahoo.
In Yahoo, the recipient of a message (either through email or on the web page) can choose to either reply to just the sender or to reply all and I'm trying to get Groups.io to allow the same choice.?? I found a setting where I can specify the default reply (sender, group, moderator, Group and sender) which and set it to "group" I also found a check box called "Remove other reply options" which implies the if left unchecked in addition to the default reply to there would be other options like Sender or Moderator.? However I can't see any difference if this box is checked or not.? In no case do I seem to have an option of selecting what set of people the reply should go to (either in replying on the web or replying to an email either using the Outlook reply vs reply all or the buttons at the bottom of the message. Can someone give me some guidance here on how to set things up so that members can choose on a message by message basis which group of people their reply should go to? Thanks -- Dan |

Re: 2 questions about guidelines
Nancy,
We have updated our group¡¯s guidelines. How do I replace the copy that you get when clicking on the menu?? See the other recent messages about the Guidelines type of Member Notice. Also: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Member-Notices? and /static/help#membernotices ? All I could find was edit and move. The new version was modified and uploaded in our files by a moderator, not me. Unlike Y!Groups, member notices in Groups.io are not implemented as part of the Files feature. Files here cannot be "scheduled". Milt,
Looks like you have this set to go out using the Calendar, something I've never used on Groups.io.? Can you provide a short overview for those of us who might like to send a regular monthly message like this to members? I set up GMF's reminder before the Guidelines feature that Bruce mentioned existed. You might prefer to used that method. On the other hand, using a calendar Event gives you great flexibility in scheduling, at the cost of some boilerplate content and system hashtags. Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Peter,
Part if not most of the transfer process is manual.? The person who does this process, Mark, was on vacation last week I think until or through yesterday.? As well any other person in the queue ahead of you would go first.? That is the reason for the lengthy delay.

Re: Automatic Distribution of Messages
Bruce,
I would recommend using the automated transfer anyway. Firstly because you can uncheck the box for copying your group members, and have just the content copied. But beware: content in both Yahoo Groups and Groups.io is "owned" by the member who uploaded the content. If the matching email address is not in the Groups.io group then the ownership info is lost, and the item becomes attributed to the person who initiated the transfer. For this reason it is best to let the transfer agent copy over the membership so that as much of the content remains properly attributed as possible. Secondly, those Y!Group members who have "Bouncing" status will be skipped when copying the members. That alone will trim a lot of your deadwood (though you may mean you have 7800 non-bouncing members). Immediately after the copy operation a number of the copied members will likely get "Bouncing" status in Groups.io. That's because Y!Groups bounce tracking mechanism has been unreliable for some time, and Groups.io will pick up the ones Y!Groups missed. It is also possible in some cases that an email service might reject messages from Groups.io where it had been accepting them from Y!Groups. -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

The problem is most likely that you've managed to request a transfer coinciding with the couple weeks Mark has taken off for vacation. While part of the transfer may be automated, Mark has to manually perform the act of joining the group because of the 'captcha'. He should be back in a few days and you should see some activity soon. Re: Include prior text in email replies?
DanHartfordPhoto, Is there a setting which causes original email text to be included when replying? ? There is not a setting, but when replying in the Message section there are two ways to do it. See:/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks When replying by email that's entirely up to the member's email interface. Except in the case of using the "Reply To xxxx" links in the footer of messages - in which case it basically isn't possible. Re: Reply to sender or group or . . .
Bruce,
Under Settings/ Message Policies there is an option to set "Reply To" to Group, Sender, Moderators, or Group and Sender." Where is this applied? It controls the content of a Reply-To: field placed in the header of each outbound (individual) email message. This field is used by most email interfaces to control the behavior of the default Reply function. ? In general, I would want replies to only go out to the group and not the sender of the reply, or does that mean sender of the original message? It means sender of the original message. ? Since they are part of the group, why would they not receive it anyway? Depends on their email delivery choice. If they are on Digest they might not get it for some hours; if they are on Special Notice or No Email they wouldn't at all (not counting reading it in the group's Messages). I do see that this setting governs to button behavior in the web interface, with the button text for reply changing to whatever option is set. Why not just have buttons for each of these actions? That was done for a while, but many moderators complained that it was too easy for the member to click the "wrong" one by inattention, so the present scheme was devised to make the group's setting more prominent by "hiding" the other choice. Finally, our messages in general have a "Reply to sender" link in the the email, but we had one go out today with the footer below that was missing the link. Do these links get changed for plain text vs html email? Yes, the content of the footer is different for plain text messages than formatted (HTML) ones. Avoiding this inconsistency is one reason a group might check the
Force HTML Emails box in the Message Formatting section of the group's Settings page. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
