Harvesting email addresses

debbie

Does "harvest or collect email addresses or other contact information of other users from the Service by electronic or other means for the purposes of sending unsolicited emails or other unsolicited communications" include harvesting email addresses to send them invitations to another group?

If so, is [email protected] the correct place to report it to?

Thanks,

Debbie

Re: How do I transfer events from one calendar to another? #calendar #howto

Got it. Thank-you. Is there a central ¡°wishlist¡± where one could request such a feature, in some future update, from the powers that be? ;-)

Just the ability to import a file like that into the main calendar would be enough. Then, we could make the planning calendar in google or ical and import from there. (or out and back again)

Thanks!

Well, at the bottom of the planning calendar pages is a blue "Subscribe to Calendar" button. Clicking on that will give you a link to a page containing that calendar's events in iCalendar (.ics) file format.

But that's only half an answer, because I don't know of a way to then import that file into the main calendar.

Likewise one by one. In each event you can download it as an .ics file, but then there's still no way to import them into the main calendar.

Re: Instructions for New Members (not invited) Joining Group

Don,

Has anyone developed a complete "How Too" for persons who want to join
a group but who have not been previously invited?
Quite possibly. But it is so easy that I'd be concerned that a step-by-step would make it seem harder than it is.

If they only want to post and receive by email, use the +subscribe email command:
/static/help#emailcommands
It doesn't say there, but should, that they'll receive a confirmation notice from Groups.io, and they need to follow its instructions to confirm.

If they want to access the group's web pages, go to the group home page and scroll down to the blue "Join Group" button (unrestricted groups) or "Apply For Membership in This Group" button (restricted groups). Then follow the instructions.

Hopefully including how too set up a password.
/static/help#password

Note that a password is not required to log in. The member can opt to use the "Email me a link to log in" function instead.

Typically this comes about when a mail service has extended problems with its servers.?Per what Shal said, check your own mail delivery history to determine what response your provider (or intermediate server) may have sent to groups.io.

With that understanding, one has to wonder what other messages they may have failed to deliver to your inbox.?Such issues can be expected occasionally; but if the problem persists, the best long-term solution is to seek out a more reliable provider. I realize that sounds kinda glib, but it's the truth.

More information on this than you'd probably ever want to know can be found at?/static/help#bouncing?

Hope this helps,

I believe there may be a limit to how many you can add at one time without support's intervention. And support happens to be on vacation at the moment, with all that entails. See this thread on the topic.

Basic groups are limited to 1 GB total storage for files and photos. There are a number of ways to reduce your usage; but for now, go to Admin->Upgrade and tell us what it says.

Joseph,

So I'm wondering, is there a limit on how many addresses can be placed into the direct added functionality?

?I don't believe so. Or rather, if there is a limit it is likely much larger than 500.
?
?I don't currently have a Premium group, so I'm working from memory. Isn't there a result page, or tab on the Direct Add page, that will tell you what happened with each of the email addresses?

?Or maybe I'm thinking of the Members page, sorted by Joined date.

In any case, it is possible for a Direct Added ?email address to reject the "You've been added" notice and be immediately listed as a Bouncing address. I'm not aware of any reason why an address wouldn't be added at all, unless it were not syntactically correct.

How do I transfer events from one calendar to another? #calendar #howto

Hi,

I am a new owner/moderator for our homeschool group. ?We have created a planning calendar that is viewable by a subgroup. ?We would like to be able to upload/transfer the events on that planning calendar to the calendar for the main group 3 times each year. ?In other words, ideally a few people would be changing things and moving things around in the planning calendar for a while, then we could transfer all those planned events to the main calendar (viewed by the entire membership) all at once. ?Is this possible?

If not, is there a way to copy or transfer events one at a time from one calendar to another?

Thanks,
R Munson

Do you have a Basic or a "paid for" Group?

I suspect that you have reached your storage limit. If you look in your Files & Photos sections you will find figures showing how much of your allowance you have used up.

Well since I don't have access to the group yet, because my email address has not been added, due to this simple issue, I can't look at the results page. And he has already signed off of the computer for the evening. I asked him for his login credentials, so that I can approve myself if I did get added in the middle of the night, but he did not respond with that information

In the process, of doing direct ad, he submitted our whole list to get moved over. And so he thought that the direct added feature Woodcock would completely ad everyone, well, this is not the case. Re: Your Groups.io Account Is Bouncing

Kathy,

I have received this same message from TWICE now. I am a member in quite a few groups now on and I have no idea which group is involved in this.

?Delivery rejection (bouncing) is tracked against your email address, without regard to which particular group(s) sent the message(s) which were rejected.?

You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you from all of the groups you are a member of.

?This part of the message is in error - you will not be unsubscribed. But until you unbounce you will not receive more group postings.?

I would be curious as to WHY my account is bouncing.

?You would have to ask your email service - it is they that are rejecting group messages sent to your address.

Some information will be available to you in the Recent Bounces page of your Account. Select Account from the menu that drops down from your name in the upper right corner of any Groups.io page. Then click the Recent Bounces button on the left. The Reason column will give the error number and text which your email service provided when it rejected the listed message.

I have received this same message from groups.io TWICE now. I am a member in quite a few groups now on groups.io and I have no idea which group is involved in this. Regardless, it affects ALL of my groups and my messages stop sending to my e-mail. they are not backed up and sent later (once I am not bouncing) they do not send at all. I have to go to the website of each group to see if I missed anything.

This is the full message (less names of the groups and link)

Hello,

Recently, emails sent to you have bounced back to us. This can be for many reasons, including:

- We have an incorrect email address for you.
- Your account was or is full.
- Other temporary delivery issues.

We have suspended email delivery to you. This means you will no longer receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to, including:

You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you from all of the groups you are a member of.

To unbounce your account, go to the following link:

Hi Don, since most of our members, interact via email, we normally do this. This is how I've always done it. I find it much easier to do it this way on a person-to-person basis. Because you don't know how Advance their computer experiences are.
