QUESTION About joining Groups io

Lavon

What can be done about a person who subscribes our group to Groups io when she was told not to and she isn't the owner or even in the group?? We have an AOL group and she took it upon herself to put us in Groups io. She was sent 2 emails by us telling her not to and she did it anyway.? She has groups on Groups io and thinks she can dictate to everyone else.
Can we report this person so this doesn't happen again?

Then click on?View change plan
And scroll to the bottom where you will see Enterprise and a couple of choices
Then click on upgrade on the one you want.

Just HOW do I buy an enterprise license?

I've looked, clicked and searched.? I can't find out how to create an enterprise group.? It seems odd to me that it is so hard to buy the high price service.

What obvious link did I miss?

Are you the Owner of an existing group? All groups start life as Basic, and become Premium or Enterprise as a result of an Upgrade, a process that starts by clicking on the Upgrade tab which is one of those down the left hand side of a Groups.io webpage. If it isn't immediately visible then click on the Admin tab which will expand the list of admin functions. Then proceed as directed...

It might also help you to read the Pricing page, where you will find the 3 types of group described in more detail; each type has a green Start a Group button, but they all lead to the same page.

Chris

Re: Just HOW do I buy an enterprise license

1. Start a group.
2. Go to Admin > Upgrade.
3. Select "View/Change Plan".
4. Click on Upgrade to the right of the plan you want (annual or monthly.)
5. Enter payment information.
6. Click "Upgrade Your Group".

That is actually quite helpful.
I think that's helping

Is there an upload file size limit? #question #usage #notworking

Have my group set to no resizing, but in trying to upload a couple of video files (over 500 mb) the site seems to lock up.

Any suggestions?

thanks!

And yes, each poll can only have one question, and the poll notification goes out immediately after save (or edit).?

The idea is to create a poll, but while creating it, not sending out emails all the time.
So i created a subgroup with no members, created several polls there (There is no way to create a poll with more than one question, right ?)?

And when it's done open it for all members of the main-group.
You could create the subgroup and a series of poll questions and then Direct Add everyone to it afterward so they can respond. But I believe this would create additional confusion among your subscribers and is not the best answer to the problem.

Instead, try editing the #poll hashtag and set it to "No Email." Then you could create several polls, which would show up in the message archive but no notifications would go out. When you're done, you could then manually send a single notification (as a normal message), containing a series of links to each of the poll questions.

I have not tested any of this, but it seems that it should work. The one negative I see at this time is that some of your subscribers may discover and respond to the early questions before your final notification is prepared.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Moving messages or polls from subgroup to maingroup

Luigi Rensinghoff

Hi
i am relatively new being an owner or admin to groups.

I wonder if it is generally possible to move polls or threads or messages on level up.

The idea is to create a poll, but while creating it, not sending out emails all the time.
So i created a subgroup with no members, created severall polls there (There is no way to create a poll with more than one question, right ?)?

And when it's done open it for all members of the main-group

Is that possible ?
I there another way to achieve that ?

Best Luigi

Re: Customize subscription #subscription

I include a link to a registration form I created on Google Docs in the pending member notice. To further automate the process you can set the the Google doc to auto-notify you when someone completes the form.

Re: Update Calendar from Email/Excel

Mike,

I was wondering if there is a way that a member would be able to add
an event by sending an email with all the details to the group and
have it automatically get added to the calendar.
There's this:

But it applies only to Premium groups.

Also, the phrase "a calendar invite" suggests to me that the invitation has to be generated as an ICS format attachment to a message (and possibly only works from at Outlook calendar).

Re: No attachment/photo icon when composing on web

Helen,

When I open a pending message to edit and approve, the toolbar lacks
the attachment and photo icons ...
That's true of all groups, there's no control or setting for it.

I think the problem is that the toolbar is not consistent. Sometimes
it does have the attachment/photos icons and sometimes not. I haven't
figured out all the situations ...
Another case where it does not is when editing a message after it has posted.

It is in my opinion an annoying limitation in both circumstances.

Here's an old request of mine, you could reply in agreement, or start your own topic:

Here's a somewhat newer topic that included both attachments and insert photos in the request:

Re: No attachment/photo icon when composing on web

Helen, I just tested it with my test group.

I put a topic to moderate so I would have to deal with it.
The email came, and of course to edit, I have to click on View this message online.
The toolbar was there. But a different toolbar - with clean links but no option for attachment or photos.

I am using Safari 12.11 on my MacBook.?

A solution for a moderator would be to approve the message if it is complete enough and then reply yourself with the attachment. Or reject it and add a message about the required attachment. (A message section comes up.)

Re: No attachment/photo icon when composing on web

Thanks Chris - not a silly question at all. I don't think it was either of those things but you did help me localise the main issue I am having.

I think the problem is that the toolbar is not consistent. Sometimes it does have the attachment/photos icons and sometimes not. I haven't figured out all the situations but here's the one that is bugging me right now.

I run a group for a lot of non-computer-savvy people, so I often have to do a bit of moderation for their messages, including editing text and adding attachments.
When I open a pending message to edit and approve, the toolbar lacks the attachment and photo icons - and this is where I most miss them, as I can't just send a new message by email because that would have my name as sender instead of theirs.

Is there a specific setting for adding attachments in that situation?
Or maybe there is some technical reason that this toolbar can't allow attachments?
If the latter, is there any workaround people can recommend - beyond asking the member to resend their message with the attachment, which is what I currently have to do.

Thanks again - really appreciate your assistance.
Helen

Re: HOW CAN SOMEONE SHARE IN A GROUP IF THEY ARE NOT A MEMBER?

Karen,

I received porn in one of my groups and the person is not a member.
How does that happen?
To figure that out we'll need more information.

The first question is whether the pornographic message posted to your group's Messages section on the web, or if it only arrived by email.

If it did not post into your group's web pages that explains how it could be from a non-member. If it did post into your group's web pages then some details may be available from the group's Activity log.

Michael,
I was wondering if there is a way that a member would be able to add an event by sending an email with all the details to the group and have it automatically get added to the calendar. We have a director of events, but many members plan events. Was hoping to save a lot of re typing and possible typos.
Not sure whether this will help but you can set up the calendar in a way that both moderators and subscribers can edit it.

Just my two cents... :)

Dave,

? ? ? ? ? There are scads of "inarticulate wombats" as you term them.? The very idea of judiciously trimming has gone the way of the dinosaur in many venues.

There is for Premium (paid) groups, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Adding-Calendar-Events-by-Email

I'm not aware of any way to make use of a spreadsheet to enter events.

Re: Managing a photo album

Right.? Thanks, Chris.? I must admit that the photos carry the oddest of names as most of them, I suspect, were originally attachments to emails so they carry the name the photographer's camera gave them.? I think in Yahoo they were in the order they were uploaded.

I only have about 140, so I suppose renaming them all with a prefix number is not beyond possible.? Quite a chore though.

And on your second point, I was aware of the viewer choice but there is nothing I can do about that.? I just wanted a reasonable default order.? They seem to have turned up in the order I put them there, so if only I had ordered them first.? I suppose it didn't take me all that long to put them up there.? There did seem to be a bit of an issue if I put too many at the same time.? I'm not sure just what I mean by too many but one worked flawlessly every time, but with lots together I could see the upload go, sometimes sticking before 100%, but after that was finished I waited for what seemed too long with my machine saying waiting for groups.io.? Escape followed by uploading again seemed to work.

Anyway, thanks for your help, Chris.

In a word - yes.

Photos will automatically sort themselves alphanumerically, irrespective of when they were uploaded, and alphanumerically includes whatever identity the mechanism used to take the photo in the first place chose to allocate to it.

So if someone uploads a photo called "Avocado" and someone uploads another picture of an avocado but with the name 123456.jpg and then someone uploads a picture of an apple called "My lunch" then in the album they will appear in the order 123456.jpg / Avocado / My Lunch.

If you want them in a different order (neglecting the fact that there are now two photos of an avocado, which is probably unnecessary) the photo names need to be edited with an "order number" in fromnt of them, e.g.

01: My Lunch, 02: Avocado, 03: 123456.jpg.

Note the leading "0". If this is omitted things go haywire when the number of photos >9. If the number of photos in an album is going to exceed 99 then the individual numbers need to start 001, 002... up to 999, i.e. with 2 leading zeros.

If your members have permission to upload photos then with the best will in the world the outcome will almost certainly be well - intentioned anarchy. IME members go no further than uploading the photos and don't carry out the necessary editing to have a sensible naming scheme or force a sensible photo order. As in the example above duplication is another common feature IME.

It boils down to the group owner / moderators having to try to sort things out by (a) making sure that individual photos have sensible names (Titles) (b) forcing a sensible order using numerical prefixes and (c) ruthlessly deleting duplicates or near duplicates.

Hope that helps a bit; be warned that it can involve quote a lot of work, but it can be done in easy stages. Just remember that the longest march starts with a single step. :)
