Re: Button to Go Ahead With Transfer? #transfer

I'm having this same problem, but it has been more than 24 hours since I elevated [email protected], and my transfer page still says "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon."

This is the second group I've transferred (would've done them at the same time if I knew price would increase on me!!), so I'm pretty sure everything is correct on my side. BICBW.

Still not seeing the green "Start Group Transfer Process" button.

Why does it keep changing?? ?I went from 33 to 5.

Re: Group Occupying 2.1GB of its 1GB

My experience is Attachments used on posts at YG will not transfer to Groups.io for reasons unknown to me. If for some reason Attachments did transfer for you, I would guess they would be in Groups.io's Emailed Photos album.

However see the points I made in the thread - about those that transfer early.
However, I understand their impatience!

The person that creates the group here will be an owner.? A group can have as many owners (and moderators) as wanted.? If you don't want to e the group owner, you'll need to appoint another one before you can demote yourself.

Keep in mind that when you click on a photo online, it will fill the screen, regardless of the saved size.? If you then click on Download beneath it, it will show you the size that it's saved at and what will be downloaded.

Re: Transferring members to new group

They all get moved.?

The FAQ says:

5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
?
Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.
?
Those with "no mail" status in YG migrating to a Groups.io group with "no mail" disabled will have Special Notice status instead.

They will get a welcome notice. You can edit the welcome notice in Admin, Settings, Member Notices tab. Otherwise they get the default notice.

How do I find the status of my Yahoo Group transfer?

Hello!

When I authorized the transfer of my Yahoo Group to Groups.io I did so as moderator.?
After creating the Groups.io page I am shown as an "Owner".?
I now know that only the person who authorized the transfer has access to this feature.
I know I screwed up somewhere but can this be fixed?

Many thanks!

Re: Transferring members to new group

No I meant all the 10,000 members still waiting to be transferred from YGroups to IO Groups. No one or very few have changed their email addresses. I paid the premium to have everything transferred. My question is do they all get moved or sent invitations to join once IO groups transfers me over.

Susan

Re: Transferring members to new group

And

Can I invite members to group@ before the transfer?
?
Yes. But note that those email addresses already in group@ at the time of the transfer won't have their membership settings copied from the Y!group. See GMF #6119. Also, anything they post won't be emailed to the members who haven't yet become members of group@.
?
Can I transfer the content without informing the members?
?
Yes. However there are some downsides. If you skip the automated notices you'll need to send messages yourself if and when you do want to inform the members. See the topic starting at GMF #6176. If Y!group remains active after the transfer any new messages posted or content uploaded to Y!group afterward won't be copied to group@.

Re: Transferring members to new group

Susan, if the members joined Groups.io with the same email address as they used on Yahoo Groups, they will not be transferred. If they have used a different address, they will be. They would have to merge their accounts.

Re: How do I transfer my ygroup manually?

You say you need help moving data.
Please consider this - perhaps you only need members and a few files. If that's all you need, it is relatively easy.

10. What are my alternatives to paying for the Premium Yearly plan?
?
(a) Moving members yourself:
?
You can Upgrade your group to the Premium for one month plan ($20 USD) in order to upload a list of members (Direct Add). However everything else would need to be copied manually.
?
On the Basic plan (free) you can upload a list of members to the Invite page. Similar to a Yahoo Group, it sends an invitation to each email address and the invitee must receive and respond to the invitation before they are added to the Members list.
To obtain a list of your Yahoo Group members you can go to the Manage Members page and in the Actions menu Export (download) a csv or tsv format file. It is best to open the file in a spreadsheet like Excel, then you can easily copy the Email column to paste into the Direct Add or Invite page. Note: this is only for groups with 1000 or fewer members, due to Yahoo's Export restriction.
?
Send a message to your YahooGroups members on YahooGroups inviting them to join your new home. Include the URL. Or tell them to send a blank email to the Subscribe email address found at the bottom of your group's home page (that is, [GROUPNAME][email protected] ?substituting the real group name for GROUPNAME).

b) Moving message archive, photos, etc. yourself
?
You can download content from Yahoo - see /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19430?
?
There are a few third-party solutions to that, including PG OFFLINE, a chrome browser app, and ModTools.?
?
The problem is what to do with the message archive once downloaded; as there is really no good way to re-upload it to groups.io, to re-link individual messages to their owners, or to provide online message search capability.
?
An option is simply to print the collection of old messages to a PDF file; at which point you can upload that to the files area of your group. That will give you something, even if it isn't conveniently indexed and searchable.
Currently ?(Oct 2019), the only way to have the correct ownership for files is to have the owner upload it.
?
(c) Photos and files:
?
You'd need to move them manually if you're not paying for a transfer. ?It can be time consuming and "ownership" of all the items will be in your name. ?If the person that originally uploaded a picture is on the new group, you can manually assign ownership to them (if you know who it was.) ?There's currently not a similar function for Files.

How do I transfer my ygroup manually?

I am a little bit computer savvy, and I am group owner of a 400 member group. I need help in moving data over to my newly created group on groups.io. I tried pg offline but it has stopped working and just wants money. I dont have money, that is why I have to try to move the group over myself versus paying to have it done for me. I cannot allow it to just fade away. Can someone please tell me how to do this? I keep trying to sift through the tons of email to get the needed information but I cant find basic information to follow. I do know how to invite, change roles of members and basically set up the new group but lack the knowledge of how to get the messages and links moved over from the old group. Please can someone help me?

Transferring members to new group

When IO Groups transfers my group to my IO Group list, do they just transfer all members or does everyone receive an invitation?
About 600 of my 10,000+ members have joined the new list on their own. Most want to wait.

Thank you,
Susan

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

I did send a couple messages to the owner email address in case Yahoo somehow changed the owner from me to someone else, but I have not received a response.

I'll see if I can do any of the other items that you mentioned this evening.

Larry,
Try sending another email to the -owner email address.
Tell them your story.
Ask them to contact you and/or promote you to Owner, or Moderator with "Invite and add members" and "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" privileges.

Management > Manage Members
Click on the row with your email address (not the check box) to open the "Edit Member" window
Use the "Role" drop down menu to select "Owner" or "Moderator"
  - If "Moderator" check the boxes next to "Invite and add members" AND "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges"
Scroll to the bottom and click "Save"

Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group #membershipapplication #membernotices

I just sent an email to the <[email protected]> address from both an email that already has a Groups.io account and one that does not.
[ GROUPNAME was replaced by the actual group name ("Group Email Address" from: Admin > Settings > General ]
They both received this messages:

Subject: Confirm your Groups.io subscription

Thank you for your interest in Groups.io and the group [email protected]. To complete your subscription, please reply to this email.
If you did not request - or do not want - a subscription to this group, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.
---

What is confusing is:
- That the "interest in Groups.io" part is included when sent to an email address that already has a Groups.io account.
AND
- That an email address that does not already have a Groups.io account probably doesn't not understand the twofold nature of confirming their address and their interest in the group [email protected].

IT WOULD BE CLEARER IF:
1) An email address that already has a Groups.io account would receive:

Subject: Confirm your GROUPNAME Groups.io subscription

Thank you for your interest in the group GROUPNAME @groups.io.
To process your subscription request, please reply to this email.
If you did not request - or do not want - a subscription to this group, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.
--

2) An email address that does not already has a Groups.io account would receive:

Subject: Confirm your Groups.io account and GROUPNAME Groups.io subscription

Thank you for your interest in a Groups.io account and subscription to the group GROUPNAME @groups.io.
To confirm that you can receive messages from Groups.io and to process your subscription request, please reply to this email.
If you did not request - or do not want - a Groups.io account and a subscription to this group, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.
--

I suggest 'process your subscription request' to allow for the possibility of a "Pending Member Notice" being sent with questions to be answered before an Owner/Moderator will approve the Subscription.

Alex,

I did the ¡°manual registration¡± of PGO and that was completed within a day. Quoting Wilson Logan (PGO developer):

?

All Personal Groupware products currently have a manual registration facility.

?

In the program please choose:

Help(menu option)-- > Product Registration-- > Get Unique Code

This displays a unique code which you should copy using CTRL + C and then please paste

the code into an email and send it to me at:

info (at) personalgroupware.com

I will then generate a licence key and and email it to you.

?

You might also try the support page for PGO:

?

On it are links to an FAQ, the support forum, and even Skype to the Wilson Logan. My experience is that they have been very responsive, although I haven¡¯t tried Skype.

Seems they're too busy also to ever answer their emails :(

Re: Photo Description content - Automated transfer from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io

A small part of me wants to agree with you, but given that Yahoo was funded by (mainly annoying) advertisements and Groups.io is an ad - free zone the charge does not seem inherently unreasonable. Mark (and whatever personnel he employs) are having to do an immense amount of work to try and absorb those fleeing Yahoo, and it is almost certain that he has had to buy or lease significant additional storage capacity to cater for it all.
Understood.
What alternative funding model would?you?have used?
I can't answer that not being employed by groups.io but sure to say the financial/workload shock impact to groups.io from the sudden decision by Yahoo Groups owner
is considerable.

You might also note that for your money you are actually getting 12 months - worth of additional storage capacity; if you revert to being a Basic / free group after your initial 12 months have elapsed then your storage will drop to 1 GB, and if you want to retain all your existing material then you will have to continue paying to maintain your Premium status.

Yup, but sadly only 2 people of the 200+ have pledged funds. And obviously not enough to cover transfer costs for the first year.

Still no answer from anybody re the question I asked if photo description content from Yahoo Grps gets included in the automated transfer process to groups.io
Surely someone can answer this question - PLEASE.
