Re: 500 This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.
The owner has set up the group for announcements from owners and moderators only.
If you are owner, you can change that. Go to Admin, Settings, Spam Control. Change to restricted if you wish to approve members before they join. If you don't want this, untick all those but make sure that you have New Users Moderated and change the number of posts before they are unmoderated. Re: White-listing a group
Okay, so to close this loop and I know this gets away from Groups.io a little bit, the only thing that I have been able to do with Comcast is turn off the spam filter on my email account all together. I was unable to find any way to customize that filter to allow certain email/senders/domains through. So far it has worked, as the email from that one group is now coming to my inbox. Hopefully, I don't get inundated with true spam.?
If I do, I'll still be appreciative if anyone has any further advice on filtering. It still baffles me why only one group triggers the spam filter. Is it possible that the name of the group is one word that begins with 5 capitalized letters? Dave |

I've looked at the sub-groups section of "Admin" and there's one thing I want to be certain I understand. The description merges the sample into an email address. How does the sub-group(s) work when reading online? Are messages presented to the users purely in accord with the "visibility" rules? What about people who are members of both the "members" and the "board"? Do they get two copies or does groups.io have the logic that says "once is enough"? Since we can't be certain that all Board members are also members of the main group, what would be the construct using "NAIA..." and "Members" and "Board"? I'll suggest that NAIAandANIATrust be shortened. It was a name that was convenient 10 years ago. I'm using a rather careful approach as this is something we never considered and if mis-handled, can't be easily undone. Eric -----Original Message-----

Yes, except that Members may as well be the name of the primary group, replacing the default of "main", as Bruce suggested. That is assuming that all board members are also members of the organization. That's what I do with my PTA group. The primary is Members@ unitname.groups.io while the board is Board@ unitname.groups.io (subgroup) We also have other subgroups, such as teachers@, and staff@, as well as temporary subgroups sometimes for volunteers organizing an event. My only other comment is that "NAIAandNAIATrust" seems a bit awkward, even if accurate. I'd be really tempted to shorten it to one or the other, if that wouldn't be completely incorrect. For example, if NAIATrust is in some sense a subset of NAIA (at least as far as participation is concerned) then you might have: Members@ NAIA.groups.io (primary) Trust@ NAIA.groups.io (subgroup) Board@ NAIA.groups.io (subgroup) Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
invitee doesn?t appear in the members list
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, I invited someone twice into my group, but the person does not show up as a member even though she has accepted the invitation. She logges herself in and her name and account are visible to her on the home page, she can read mails, but she can?t write mails, and she doesn?t see files and databases, photos and so on. Which cause could this have? Victoria |

You then tell members one by one about the move on a "per occasion" basis. This seems to be very wasteful of your time; I would set your Yahoo group to "Announcement" which allows you to post as its owner (along with any other moderators) but no - one else. Then send a message to it (which by definition is now an Announcement) telling members that the group is now once and for all "closed" and all business transferred to the new group. Chris |

When replying online, you can also highlight the text from the message that you want to include before clicking Reply (as I've done here.)As indeed have I. Every now and then you are likely to find that the nth post in a thread quotes the (n-1) posts that preceded it, and (n-1) copies of the first post in a thread are rarely of much benefit. Chris |

Then I email them and tell them we've moved to groups.io.Not that I'm aware of. When you upload a file, you can set that file to be sent to members regularly, or when the member joins, leaves or is banned, but not whenever any member attempts to post a message. I do recall being sent a file that appeared to have been sent automatically when I tried to join certain Yahoogroups in the past, but I have no idea where to set that up, and I now suspect that the moderators of those groups simply sent out that file manually. If you find that many people do this, you may wish to consider removing any members from the list who have successfully subscribed to the IO group, and sending a special notice to the rest once a month. Another thing you can do, is go to Management > Control Panel > About Group, and change the group's e-mail address from e.g. MYGROUPNAME to MYGROUPNAMEOLD. This means that if people try to send an e-mail to the old Yahoogroups address, it won't make it to the list. However... AFAIK unfortunately the mail will be ignored by Yahoo, so you won't know that the member tried to send something, and they will not get any message telling them that their mail wasn't delivered).
