I fully accept that personal preference does come into it, but selective quoting is a
far better option than overquoting; left unchecked this can become a pernicious problem. Every now and then you are likely to find that the nth post in a thread quotes the (n-1) posts that preceded it, and (n-1) copies of the first post in a thread are rarely of much benefit.
