clickable links in database

Is there a way to make urls clickable ?

In /g/HudsonValleyDog in Databases is Links with a column, URL, containing
errm links to relevant informational websites. Problem is the links are not clickable.

If the URL column is type Single Line Text the url displays as plain text, unclickable, so one
could copy and paste into browser.

If the column is set to type Link the column seems to close up, disappear, ??

Nope.? You have to create the subgroup (and do all the setup) so you'll have a place to direct the transfer to.

Well, in this case the archive was made private by mistake (no matter how dumb that mistake was), and in this case the person trying to get the archives back into the public is the group owner, and in this case the group owner would be in complete control of both the archiver and the archive.

RSS Feed from groups

While doing some research this morning, I realized there isn't much information about using the RSS feed of a group (from the group, not into it - that's another subject.)? I don't use them, but thought others might be interested.? To use it, your group must have public archives, allowing anyone to read messages even without being a member.? This also applies to subgroups.? It's possible to have private archives on a main group, but public on subgroups, and vice versa.

For a bit more, I found the following items on the beta group:
RSS for main group implemented -
Rss for subgroup implemented -
Efficiency improvement -

FWIW

Creating a group:

I believe you must have an account *and* you must log in, if you want to create a group. I have been unable to create a group without logging in first.

Of course, you don't need a password to log in, if you log in using the "send me a link to log in" method.

Joining a group:

I can join a group (via the web) without logging in, as long as I "confirm" my e-mail address, but that only works if the e-mail address that I'm trying to join with is not yet registered. If the e-mail address that I'm trying to join with is already registered, then I have to log in (it's not sufficient to just "confirm" it).

Creating a sub-domain from a Yahoo group

I think I am ready to create my second? sub-domain. This will be the twenty or so Board members of the organization.
?
To do this there are two apparent ways:
?
1. Transfer.io the contents of the Yahoo group into sub-domain which would first of all create it.
?
2. Create the sub-domain and then somehow transfers all the messages and members to it.
?
From my experience earlier this week, I presume that the right way is #1. . . correct?

I'd say you've got nothing to be too concerned about (though glitches sometimes happen.)? As of last Friday, all transfers were caught up, so delays should be at a minimum.? One person reported that the transfer was completed about an hour after giving the go ahead!? (Of course, we don't know how much information was transferred.)? If it were me, I'd go ahead and set up the other transfers, going so far as to make [email protected] a moderator on those groups.? Just don't give the go ahead for the next one until each one completes.

The Dec 1 'cutoff' is to allow time for YG glitches and other possible complications.? Transfers can be requested after that, but results aren't guaranteed.? I suspect that since the process is more streamlined, thus faster, that even Dec 10 might be okay, depending on how many wait until the last minute to make a request.? That would allow less time for any difficulties to be resolved though.

Yes, you probably created the accounts and passwords, but it isn't necessary.? You can enter your email address on that page, then click Email Me a Link To Login.? That email will have a link to log you in without ever setting a password.? You can also use it if you forget your password.? I sure hope not!? Archives are made private for a reason, however valid it may be.? I had a YG with private archives that someone decided to repost on a public site.? It took a lawsuit to get it removed because Yahoo wouldn't do anything even though it was against their ToS.? An archiver certainly wouldn't be welcome on my groups.? Combining multiple YG into one GIO - no more expedite fee? #question #yahoo #transfer

Hi all, a quick and hopefully not too frantic question. I have three Yahoo groups, two of which were offshoots of the first, and we decided we want to combine them into one groups.io group. For various reasons we decided against making a main group with two subgroups, decided that instead we would prefer to consolidate.

I understand that we need to transfer them one at a time to avoid potential issues. I've started the transfer process for the first group, but as it's now only ten days until the deadline and the Thanksgiving holiday is coming up here in the US, wondering if I should be worried about getting all three transferred in time??

I had thought that in a pinch we could use the option of paying the extra fee to expedite the process - but I see that has been removed and isn't an option any more?

Just wondering if we should have a contingency plan in case there isn't time to get the other two groups transferred. Or if I'm worrying over nothing and there's plenty of time (please do feel free to say that ;) ).

Thanks in advance.
-Joan

Re: Is registration required?

Sandi D.

Thanks for clarifying. I have created 2 groups under 2 different emails. I can't recall how it happened but my password program has a password associated for each of those two emails. I don't think it would have saved a password unless the GIO site required me to have it for some reason.?
Maybe I am doing something wrong. Am attaching a screenshot showing the need for a password in order to log into the website.?

You got me thinking... I wonder if it is allowed (or indeed possible) for a groups.io group (with public archives) to be subscribed to another groups.io group (that has private archives).

Alternatively, "archivers" have subscribed to mailing lists for a long time (and they were not always welcome!). Perhaps there is an archiver who can join your group and make the messages available as an RSS feed.

Yes, it does. On pending messages, there's a button at the bottom to
Send Message.
I meant there is no automatic member notice that is sent automatically
as soon as a message enters the queue for moderation.

Which only appears if you have one of the 'publicly visible' options in Privacy for your messages, e.g. (this is one of my subgroups):

You need to be a member before you can post, but the beta group is temporarily closed to suggestions.? Last I heard it should be 'open' again in a month or so, after the YG migration dies down.? See

Yes, it does.? On pending messages, there's a button at the bottom to Send Message.? That gives you a message composition box with a drop list of Notices at the bottom.? If there are any messages that you're likely to send several times, you can set them up as a Note To Member on the Member Notices page to add to that box.? Group Guidelines is always a choice, too.

You can restrict file uploads and management to Moderators.
So how does the member upload a file under restricted conditions and then be moderated? This is what I desire. A specific jail where files can be uploaded by members and from there mods can file the files.

How do I request such a feature?

None of my groups that have public archives seem to have the option to make posts available via RSS, so this would be interesting for me to know.

PS. I assume you mean "private archives" when you say "private group". See attachment with the warning.
