Re: odd behavior of Your Groups drop down menu

No, I only use one email address. I don't have to log in when I
switch from one list to another or anything like that.

When I go to my Account/Identity page from the group with the
subgroups it lists my Account Profile with the correct creation date of
2 years ago and just the profiles for the main group and subgroups.
When I go to that same page from any other group there is the same
Account Profile and all of the group profiles, including the group with
the subgroups.

When I joined the list with the subgroups it did ask me to log in,
even though I already was. So perhaps something weird happened there.

Likely you have a second login for the other groups. Your email address
is your account ID.
If you wish, you can merge the accounts.
You can also create an email alias for sending emails - but not
receiving them.

Jonathan -- Let me see if I understand:? When you are browsing particular group, the pull-down menu shows you only THAT GROUP and its subgroups? If so, this does not seem normal. The "Your Groups" drop-down menu should show you all groups and subgroups that you're subscribed to, and should not depend on what [sub]group you happen to be "in."?

As I said I don't have much experience with subgroups, so I'm
wondering if this is normal behavior for the "Your Groups" list?
Could it be that you were logged in under a different email address at the time? Different email addresses will have a different set of subscriptions.

I usually use bookmarks in my browser to access the group pages when I
need to do so, so it isn't a big deal. It just seems strange that I can

Are you a member of a LOT of groups? Perhaps that has some bearing on it. The "Your Groups" menu got a lot of discussion in beta back in July (ref:?). I haven't had time to wade through all 50 messages.

If you're SURE you were logged in the same way when you experienced this behavior, I think we might need to see some screenshots so we better understand what's happening.

Re: Creating a sub-domain from a Yahoo group

As Duane said, you create the subgroup and set the options for it (but don't populate the members). Then tell groups.io to import the group data.
I just did this with my transfer from yahoo; it worked quite smoothly.

Could it be that you're subscribed to the other groups using a different e-mail address? To see which e-mail address you're logged in as, left-click your name in the top right corner, and read the e-mail address in the dropdown list.

As for "listed in directory," that controls whether your group appears in groups.io own directory of Publicly Listed Groups (/search). Anyone can "find a group" if they know its name (/g/GROUPNAME), regardless of the Privacy setting.?

Okay, so your archives can no longer be accessed via RSS, but there are some services out there that you can forward mail to RSS. One such service is .

The free package is 100 mails per month, and the paid package is EUR 4.00 per month. To use it, you have to subscribe to the Groups.io group using an e-mail address (can be an existing one, doesn't have to be a throwaway one) on a service that can forward mail, such as Gmail.

Notifier.in gives you an e-mail address that you should forward your mail to, and an RSS link that uses security-through-obscurity to make it less likely that anyone else will read your RSS feed.

In theory you may be able to subscribe to the Groups.io group directly using the RSS forwarding address, but I would not do that.

To set up forwarding in Gmail, you need to type in a confirmation code that Gmail will send to the forwarding address, and you'll find that code in the first message in the RSS feed. What I did as a test is to set up a filter in Gmail that forwards only e-mails that come from my test group. However, if I were to do this long-term, I'd rather create a whole new Gmail address for this.

The forwarding address looks something like this:
gg8asdfasdfasdf84s8ss8o08sk4wkkssows@...
and the RSS feed looks something like this:

In my test, line breaks in the e-mails are stripped. I'm not sure if that is normal in RSS (could have something to do with the fact that my e-mails were plain text).

Re: How can I add an image to show in the groups list?

Don,

When I read at the place where the icon is added "The group icon is
displayed on the mobile home page.", for some reason I thought this
icon was for mobile devices like Smartphones and the like.
It is.

I'm guessing now the word "mobile", must mean something else than I
thought.
No, the wording is incomplete. It dates back to before there was a Feed page.

To change the way an iPhone stores images go to Settings/Camera - Formats and change to Most Compatible (which means jpg).

On the pages I read (don't have an ixxxx), it says you can change your preference for how pictures are stored.? If you plan to only use jpg, you can take them that way to save the conversion time.? Also says a given photo file will be half the size for heic when taken/saved in those 2 modes.

And now would be a good time to make a collection since beta is closed to suggestions until after the YG 'shutdown' (and possibly the app release.)

No, the wording is just (IMO) wrong.?
There¡¯s inconsistency and error in wording/descriptions/instructions - understandable because one person who might have certain interpretations/biases wrote them. But Mark is always open to improving. Over on the Beta group there have been discussions about certain wording that in many opinions just DON¡¯T make sense. For an example I brought attention to inconsistencies in sub menus- using a word X was verboten in using it in the menu name, yet X was in the sub menu. And other times different words were used somewhat interchangeably (eg, post and message.) But the problem is that, given two different possible interpretations - a dozen users will interpret it two dozen different ways, so (IMO) ridiculously long and sometimes unnecessarily ¡°lively¡± discussions evolve among certain personalities. ?But afterward, Mark is open to, and has, tried to clarify wording.. That in the past also included things like improving wording/placement/color of hot buttons and the like to make the web interface more user friendly.?

If anyone finds things like that - I¡¯d urge to bring them up on the beta group and collaborate on/assist in improving GIO ?

But (IMO) it works best to collect several instances and ¡°report them¡± rather than bugging Mark with each individual one. ?

If you create a column and leave the width set to 0 (recommended), it has to have something in it to determine the width, but it should still show up.? It's possible that it's too far to the right if you have a lot of columns in front of it.? Have you tried entering a row of data?
