Re: New moderator - could use a little help, sticky wiki, wikis referencing other wikis, adding #hashtags reference to group home page
#hashtags
Peter,
Within the GeneralInfo wiki, I would like to have a button for ...Being careful with terminology here. I know you can insert links into a Groups.io wiki page, but I don't know if you can insert a "button" and make it stick. The wiki mechanism strips many formatting elements, especially active ones that might be exploited. I don't believe you can place your own javascript in a groups.io wiki page, for example. I also see that #hashtags only have a description text. It would beThere does not appear to be a way to do that. The Description is plain text only. On the issue of the URL, I tried copying the #hashtag out of theI'm not sure where you want the URL to take you, but if you just want it to bring up the list of topics containing that hashtag (same as the hashtag page would do) then an URL of this form should work: /g/GroupManagersForum/search?q=%23changelog That is a generic search URL (could search for any word), the "%23" in there is an encoding for the # character (which can't be used in the URL directly). Re: Transfer process
Joan,
Is there any sort of notification telling us weGo back to the Yahoo Groups instructions page. Down at the bottom select your Y!Group's name from the In Process list. That should bring you to a status page which may have a message at the top. At the bottom will be your copy selections, along with an Update button in case you want to change anything before giving the final go-ahead (Step 4). I believe that only you (logged in using the same address you were when you initiated the transfer) can see its status. Shal P.S.: Does anyone else here know for certain if other owners of the same Groups.io group (or the same Y!Group) can see the status of a transfer between those two groups? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

I am probably not describing this well (always a problem with email and postings). I want to have a list of available #hashtags and the associated wikis with in depth explanations and examples associated to those #hashtags at the top of the Messages list. I understand this is available via a "sticky wiki". ?Call that sticky wiki "GeneralInfo". Within the GeneralInfo wiki, I would like to have a button for )as examples): #ScheduleEvent and for the wiki ScheduleEventInfo. #ClubInfo and the wiki ClubInfo. #ClubDues and the wiki ClubDuesInfo. Sort of like (I haven't worked out the final text yet): "For more information on club activities, contact information, dues and finance, click on the the #hashtag button or read more about that club offering by accessing the wiki on that offering." #ScheduleEvent or read more at the ScheduleEventInfo wiki. ?<--The blue text would be buttons to #hashtag and the wiki. Etc. Within the example ScheduleEventInfo wiki, I would like to have other direct references via a single click to other wikis. I also see that #hashtags only have a description text. It would be nice to put the associated wiki as a "button" somewhere in the #hashtag, either the description or otherwise (if otherwise, I have no clue how to do that). On the issue of the URL, I tried copying the #hashtag out of the browser, but it apparently add spaces and is a "search" reference, not a direct address. I will try the wiki. ?That seems pretty straight forward and I didn't actually try that (duh) for the wiki. Thanks again, Pete On Thu, Jun 28, 2018 at 05:39 pm, Shal Farley wrote: That led me wonder how I could expand that to reference all the otherSo the first confusion I'm having is that hashtags aren't associated with wikis, they're a feature of messages (topics). |

Mass-change the "Message Selection" setting for all members
When viewing the member list under "Admin", there is an action option
at the bottom to set the "Email Delivery" setting for all selected members. I was wondering if there is a way to do the same for the "Message Selection" setting as well. We initially set up our group to only email subscribers with topics they post or follow, but would now like to switch everyone to be receiving all messages. We have already changed the default setting for new users, but would like to retroactively apply this to all current members as well. Thank you, Kosta |
Transfer process
hi,?
i am a co owner of three yahoo groups and we have been exploring the transfer process to IO groups. We began with our small moderator group to test the process and smooth any rough edges we might have before moving the main big group. My question is this...after you finish the transfer process, we sort of expected a screen to pop up and tell us we had completed everything and were put in the transfer waiting line..so to speak. But nothing like that happened, so now we are wondering if we did everything right? Is there any sort of notification telling us we basically just have to wait now?? Thanks,? Joan? |

Linda,
You're recommending that we submit our requests to "beta" but I'm notYes, it is another group. Beta is the official "suggestion box" for Groups.io and (unlike GMF) is run by Groups.io itself. Specifically, by Mark Fletcher (founder and implementer of Groups.io) himself. I'm relatively new here, but also interested in the ability to lock in "messages" as the default view.? You're recommending that we submit our requests to "beta" but I'm not sure what this means.? Is this a separate group?? Email address?? I'm not quite sure how to get there.??

Re: Footers again
Sharon,
What happens is someone forwards a message to someone who doesn¡¯t knowThat's a valid type of viral marketing. Though some types of groups wouldn't want to encourage members to pass around their messages (read that as: would prevent it if they could). Personally, I think the long footers on messages don¡¯t matter. MuchYou could do it using the Message Footer box in the Message Formatting section of your group's Settings page. Perhaps something like: ----- Receive this message from a friend? You can have your own subscription! Visit us here: /g/GroupManagersForum or send a blank email message to: [email protected] ----- The Message Footer box is plain text, so those links must be spelled out as URLs, but they are "linkified" if the outgoing message is formatted. Oh, and use your own group's name, of course! The introductory sentence serves two purposes: it directs the recipient to the right links, but it also suggests to the member that it is ok to forward the message to a friend that might be interested in the group. Footers again
I couldn¡¯t figure out why I was getting so many messages to ¡°owner" from someone who wanted to subscribe. Then I looked at the footer again:
There is no subscribe link. I have to do it myself or send them instructions. 3 this week. What happens is someone forwards a message to someone who doesn¡¯t know about the list. The only link to connect is with the owner. Personally, I think the long footers on messages don¡¯t matter. Much better to have the links people need to use. Sharon |

#hashtags
Peter,
That led me wonder how I could expand that to reference all the otherSo the first confusion I'm having is that hashtags aren't associated with wikis, they're a feature of messages (topics). My idea was to create a "master" wiki named something likeThis GeneralInfo page sounds a little like GMF's Home wiki page, which is mostly a list of links to other Wiki pages. But Hashtags already have an index of their own, and each hashtag can have a description. Though admittedly in GMF's hashtags the only one I've even briefly described is #admin. /g/GroupManagersForum/hashtags Looks like the beta group has descriptions for only about three of their hashtags: In both groups I think that's because most of the hashtags were created implicitly by use - someone used the hashtag in a message subject. Then no one (no moderator) went back and added a description for it. I don't see a way to define a direct wiki URL.I'm not sure what you mean. When you create a wiki page it is given an URL based on the Title field. After you Save the new page you can visit the page and copy it's URL out of your browser's address bar. Something like this: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers The URL in my browser is a search algorithm if I click on a specificThat's what hashtags do. They don't bring you to a place, they bring you a list of the topics containing that hashtag (in the topic subject). Any suggestions or alternatives?I hope my answers above give you a fresh perspective, and maybe a fresh set of questions. Re: Multiple Group Owner: Alternate Group Colors?
#groupowner
Well, as it turned out, the table background color was not saved. It showed the color on the WYSIWYG html editor but when I went back to the Messages page...[unpleasant surprise]...the color attribute had been stripped.
I still recommend creating some kind of Sticky Wiki page, though, to help you keep track of what group you're in. I'm looking for help on that topic too but am not finding that either, but you might want to read this thread instead. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
New moderator - could use a little help, sticky wiki, wikis referencing other wikis, adding #hashtags reference to group home page
#hashtags
Hi,
I am a new moderator of a groups.io group and am trying to figure out a few things. My apologies if sending a message is an inappropriate method to ask these questions, but I read available material, looked up this group's #hashtag sections, and played around with different test cases. As the title suggests, I am having a few problems organizing my groups.io group. I see that there is only 1 sticky wiki, which appears at the top of the Messages page. That led me wonder how I could expand that to reference all the other #hashtag's and their associates wikis. My idea was to create a "master" wiki named something like "GeneralInfo" and within that, emplace references and text that would allow people to get a 1 sentence explanation of a given #hashtag and "click through" to the appropriate #hashtag and/or the associated wiki. I don't see a way to define a direct wiki URL. ?The URL in my browser is a search algorithm if I click on a specific #hashtag, not a URL reference. Same thing with a wiki. Any suggestions or alternatives? To sum up, I am trying to have a cascading group of #hashtags and associated wikis able to redirect from one to another (e.g. wiki1 references wiki2 and wiki2 references wiki1 - with a single-click from the user). Thanks. |

Any good reason why the concept of ¡°Last¡± can¡¯t be understood and including in the Groups.io Calendar? It would be another way that Groups.io would be the superior email List service. |
Re: Seeking a Tutorial for new users
A Youtube tutorial would help non-technical users. A video tutorial could replace a ton of email exchanges with folks who have only passing familiarity with computer lingo. I am not set up for video production and I don't have much experience? with it, but if i did, I would volunteer to work on one. I think it would save me time in the long game.
