Re: Username not set?

Chris,

Does anyone know if that page has been changed? I would have put money
on the headings being "User ID" and "Display Name"; they are now
"Account Profile" and "Group Profile".
Edit your Account or Group profile to see and edit your User Name and Display Name fields. The User Name can be edited only in the Account profile (it is perforce the same in all group subscriptions, unlike the rest which can be customized per-group).

Possibly User Name was once called User ID, but that would have been a very long time ago. The page rearrangement that created the Identity page as we have it now, with a list of Profiles (Account, plus one per group) is much more recent.

... requires the member to enter (amongst other things) their Display
Name. We chose that "name" because IIRC that's what Groups.io called
it. It looks as though we are now going to have to edit our
instructions, not that doing that is a major issue.
Also lost in the dim past (but apparently still stuck in Mark's mind) is "Full Name" - that's what Display Name was once called. But Display Name has for a long time been the correct term for what is seen on the group's web pages to identify members' postings and uploads.

If someone /is/ receiving messages saying that their "userrname" has
not been set it suggests an incompatability between Settings and a
specific stock message.
This text is seen by moderators at the top of the page for an individual in the Members list. It is correct as stated, referring to whether that member has set their User Name. If set, the User Name is displayed there.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

A busy week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: In the pending message page, all buttons are disabled until at
least one message is selected.
At last! I don't know how many times I'd clicked one of the buttons (with no messages selected) and then been completely disoriented by the result. Particularly when there was only a single message in the list...

I still wish there were more color contrast between disabled and enabled though. Disabled ought to be grey I think.

NEW: You can now move photos between photo albums.
Yay! This has been a much-requested feature.

NEW: You can now change the owner of a photo album.
NEW: You can now change the owner of an individual photo.
These will be a help for groups where the moderator had to copy photos manually, or replace photos with resized ones.

CHANGE: In message, wiki and api revision list pages, if there are two
revisions checked, and we check another revision, we remove the
oldest revision check.
Ah, good. When the list of revisions was long it was getting tedious to have to first scroll down to the very bottom to uncheck that one.

CHANGE: When inviting someone who is not already a Groups.io user,
prioritize setting their Full Name to what was in the invite over
what their email is set to.
I'm pretty sure Mark means "Display Name". This will be helpful as many email users have either their real name (which may not be appropriate for the group) or something cryptic set as the display name in the "From" field of their messages.

CHANGE: Tweaked plan text message footers to make them much smaller.
Ok, so I get to go update my wiki page now...
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers

CHANGE: For messages with both a plain text and html part, we now
insert the message footer into both parts (previously we'd only
insert it into the html part).
A select few (you know who you are) will ever notice this, but this inconsistency had been bugging me for a long time.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

BUGFIX: In the mobile view, the Subgroups link was not always
displayed when it should be.
BUGFIX: Fixed several screen reader accessibility issues throughout
the site.
CHANGE: Updated the Google Group transfer page with changed
directions.
BUGFIX: Fixed the Edit button on the Hashtags page on Safari.
BUGIFX: The 'Upload File' button was never disabled, even when it
should have been, due to a typo in the HTML.
CHANGE: Removed lavabit.com from the list of banned email domains,
because they no longer have a disposable email address feature.
CHANGE: Ignore bad certificates from Yahoo when downloading y! group
photos.
CHANGE: Changed the time format in the calendar views to use am and pm
instead of a and p.
BUGFIX: Removed unused Search button on the chat page.
CHANGE: When viewing poll results, keep the order of respondents the
same in View By Answer mode. Also removed pagination widget, because
we don't currently paginate that page.
BUGFIX: For messages with text larger than 32kb in length, we
incorrectly passed a much shorter part of the message to the search
indexer than was necessary.
CHANGE: Changed the gavel icon to a scale to represent moderated
threads.
BUGFIX: Some error messages weren't being displayed correctly when
editing a group's settings (such as group description being too
short).
NEW: Exportgroup now exports more member data, in json format. For
premium/enterprise groups, we now export past member data. And we
export member notices.
INTERNAL: Completed switchover to new search cluster.
Please call out any you find significant.

The group owner (or another moderator with the proper permissions) might have to look at your settings to see if that is enabled for you.? For you to see it, you'd need permission to Set Moderator Privileges, then you could look at your membership in the group.

Re: how can I edit messages?

It's me again - We have 10 groups, I'm a moderator in all of them and the settings appear to be the same in each group; however, there are only two groups in which I can edit topics.? Shal, you mentioned that i might be lacking the "edit archives" privilege but I don't know where to find that?

Re: Member removed as "spam"

Prasad Agrahar

I too posted the same message and then noticed there is already an ongoing poll and discussion on this topic. So I deleted my post.?

Member removed as "spam"

A member was unsubscribed "reported a message as spam and was removed via email", this member has a?sbcglobal.net address, did not want to leave and has re-joined and is asking for advice.

How can I advise members about what they could do that this does not happen.??
How much is it a problem?
Thinking whether I need to send a regular post through my groups to alert them to the fact that they might get unsubscribed through no fault of their own and what they should do.

Re: Success of Group Transfer #groupowner

Shadow Grafix

Marina, last I heard there were over 400 groups awaiting transfer. Please try to be patient, they'll get to you as soon as they can.

All of these people waiting make me glad I moved all of my groups about a year ago.

I've successfully sent to transfer@ an invitation to join my YG group (it shows in the group Activity log).
Any idea of how long does it take for transfer@ to accept the invitation? With the other group I moved over here it was a matter of a couple of days. But I know there's a pretty long queue at the moment. Just wondering when I should start to worry.
Thanks,
Marina

Re: Success of Group Transfer #groupowner

I recently moved two large groups. It took about 2 weeks from me sending the invitation to join to receiving the request to be made a moderator from transfer@. After I did that, the transfer took 24-48 hours. I was able to follow each step on the easy transfer pages, and just had to be patient ;)

Bruce

Re: Member Reports Inability To Add Photo Album

On the Settings page, scroll down to the Features section, then find the Photos area.? Make sure Permissions is set to "Subscribers can view and upload".? I suspect you have it set to "Subscribers can view, moderators can upload".

Member Reports Inability To Add Photo Album

We checked the URL and it wasn't right so I had him do a virus scan and check for any new programs installed he might not know about. Observe thread please :

/g/TestgearNotTekScopes/topic/option_to_add_photos/20766285?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,20766285

What could be the problem ? I am not knowledgeable about this type of software so I don't know if the guy's PC has some bug in it or if I set the settings wrong. They are mostly at default. I tried to allow as much as possible, except for embedding images in posts. There has been some discussion of that and I am not sure I want to do it. If it fixes the problem I might though, I want that ability on the group. I mean I want the gallery, and I have told people to try to name it right. But he doesn't get the button at all, and has the URL the button sends him to. Another member has also reported this in that thread. I never saw that URL.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Spam from Facebook

I can image this would be quite disconcerting!

Like Toby, I have all such integrations on Moderation. You might want to consider doing the same.

Beyond that, I doubt anyone here is familiar with the API being used to access Facebook content. That being so, the only one that can help sort this out is support.

Good luck,
Bruce

Re: Success of Group Transfer #groupowner

Keith
?,

I think the problem originates in Step 2. I don¡¯t see how to log into my Yahoo group to send an email from it.

?Not just any email, specifically an invitation to join your Yahoo group.

?To do this you must be a moderator (with the Invite and add members privilege) or an owner of the group.

You will subsequently need the privilege to Add, remove, and change moderator privileges, or be an owner, in order to promote the transfer agent to a moderator (Step 3).

After clicking on the Add Photos button, click Browse to look for them on your computer, then select all that you want to upload to that album before clicking the Open button in the window where you browse for them.? You can use Shift if they're contiguous or Ctrl to select specific files (in Windows).

Uploading photos

Hi, is there a way to upload multiple photos at one time?? ( to a photo album)

Thanks in advance,

Re: Spam from Facebook

I'm not sure, some of them definitely predated our setting up an account in Groups.io so it does seem like a hiccup. And correct they are not spam per se, but members (and myself) were confused by the sudden dump.

Re: Making Subgroups

PACC Forums Admin

When we were looking to move from Yahoo to IO we decided to use ONLY subgroups for actual messages and conversations and us the main group only to hold the member accounts as required to have a subgroup.? Our reasoning was that in Yahoo we had? people in group A who were not in B,? in B and A but not C,? In C & B but not A, etc.? In other words there was no single group that had everyone.? So, when we set up IO, we created the MAIN group with settings that would not permit postings, adding files, adding images, etc.? In other words the only thing one could do was join or leave the group.? Then we use as subgroup for all the things we really need.? ?In our case, we are using all private groups (and subgroups) and only use Direct Add as the means for getting people into groups (no invites, no "request to join") so having to add manage the member in MAIN as well as the subgroups they need to be in was not a big deal for us.? I'm not sure how this idea would work open groups.
