Re: How to Transfer a Yahoo Group, but Reduce the Photos Section #howtoguide

Alright.? I have finally pulled the trigger.? I am transferring my two very large and active Yahoo Groups over to Groups.IO.? Receiving the final email from Concierge Services telling me my "issues have been resolved", when they were not, and no reply back from Concierge Services sealed the deal.? We are truly now without any customer service support at all, and Oath has apparently decided not to invest any resources in a segment of their business that had, at one time, about 3 million users (or more, possibly).? That's a LOT of advertising eyeballs they are willing to ignore, and I find that inexplicable from my business/marketing experience.? Completely perplexing they are willing to ignore what clearly is a significant potential revenue stream.? But, it is what it is, and I love what Mark has done with this group chat platform.? For me, it's sort of what Yahoo Groups was and should be.? The fulfillment of the statement, "if you could recreate the wheel, what would it look like?"? So, over we all go.? Thank you everyone for your help.? I'm sure I'll have more questions as we sit in queue to be transferred.? And, my hope is, that the damage to one of my lists does not significantly affec the list transfer process.? I knew that was a risk I was taking in waiting, as Yahoo Groups continues to degrade.? So, crossing my fingers everything transfers over okay.

So maybe a Groups.io wide thing?

Re: Spam from Facebook

I've got one group with Facebook Integration set to a Facebook page. This morning I received 10 unnecessary historic integration posts dated between April and late May - all posts were time at 06:10 CET.

Spam from Facebook

I have two groups that are both linked to Facebook. We just got about a hundred messages containing old facebook posts. Any idea what's happening?

I checked?again and no messages were transferred.
It said in the recap that none were transferred.
So I have no idea why that happened, but it did.

I haven't been here all that long compared to some folks, but this is the first time I've ever heard of a group being transferred that had NONE of the messages come over.

I suggest going back to the transfer page and checking:

-- Whether your source and target group names are correct, and
-- Ensuring that you didn't inadvertently make the selection that the message archive should not be transferred.

It's entirely possible that the transfer agent made a mistake, but I don't want to leave this issue hanging while other group owners are expecting better performance for their own transfers.

Bruce

She likely does not have the "Mailto:" handler set on her system.? That's how those links work.??

Opinions?
?It is possible to create a hashtag that when used, sends the tagged message as a Special Notice. But (unlike chats, polls and events) special notices do not automatically get a hashtag.

This is a good suggestion for beta and if posted there I will give it a bump.

That's correct. All my subscribers show the same thing. Nothing to see here.

Do I conclude that nothing needs to be done?
I looked into his Profile and cannot change it.
It cannot be my Profile intended.
The member has not posted anything yet.
I saw nothing in the Settings that seemed to affect this.

Thanks Bruce,
I'll forward this to her. Hopefully we can sort it out.

The only current way is one at a time.? This is an often requested feature that has been on the TODO list for just over 2 years, .

Re: Delete old YG group bouncing accounts before moving to IO?

Addresses in case (2) are hopefully small in number, but you might
consider sending a Groups.io invite to the Y!Group's bouncing list to
see if you pick any of them up. The majority of those invites will
bounce of course, but it is easier than contacting them individually. If
you have fewer than 1000 members you can export that list from Yahoo and
then paste them into your Groups.io's Invite page.
Thank you for this advice, Shal. I hadn't thought about the Invite feature. However, as already discussed, the Invite message in English with only the possibility of inserting in the middle of it a text in a foreign language, can be confusing for foreign users.
I finally managed to contact all members of the YG group and, so far, 3 of them have unsubscribe. I sent a 'special notice' post in the group about the transfer, hoping to reach those members who are not receiving posts but can still read them via web.

At the moment, I find myself with around 70-80 bouncing accounts on 800. They are all scattered in my mailbox and not neatly listed in a special webpage as Yahoo used to do (I don't know why they gave up this useful feature). Instead of laboriously copying each address and pasting it into a file or Invite message, I'll let Groups.io take care of them. At least, once the group has moved over, I'll have a bouncing members list easy to handle.

Thanks also to Milt for the suggestion. I did the same thing for my previously transferred group and it worked fine.

Have a nice day (or a nice night) everyone,
Marina

Hi all,
A member has just reported to me that the ¡°reply to group¡± and the ¡°reply to sender¡±? links are not working for her, she clicks and nothing at all happens.
She doesn¡¯t have any problem sending to the group.
The mail program she uses is called Postbox.
Hope you can help her.

Special Notices

Hi

I sent a message special notice from my group home. Ticked the Special Notice box. But there is no marking on the incoming message.
I confirmed in Activity that it was sent as special but shouldn't it automatically add a hashtag or something. Otherwise members might wonder why they got mail from the group all of a sudden.

Opinions?

Re: Deleting multiple photos from an album #photos

Just wondering whether there is a setting to strip out graphics in signatures. ?This would prevent the problem in the future.?

Deleting multiple photos from an album #photos

Matthew King - AK4MK

Hi - is there a way to rapidly "clean up" a photo album?

For example, my "emailed photos" album has many instances of the same picture that different people happen to use in their email signatures. I'd like to be able to delete those without having to click on each individual picture and clicking the "YES" button for each individual picture after that.? There's 250+ of them in there, so I'd sure appreciate any ideas!

Thanks,

Matt King

Re: Adding Photos to Existing Folder Query

It depends on how the album is created.? When starting one, the options are "Group Access - Any group member can add photos to this album." or "Personal Access - Only you and the moderators can add photos to this album".? It looks like the ones that were transferred must have been set as the second choice.? You can Edit Album to see what the setting is and change it, if needed.

Adding Photos to Existing Folder Query

If Photos in Admin/Settings is set to "subscribers can view and upload", should every subscriber be able to upload to an "existing" folder? One of the G.io groups I belong to where folders of pix were brought over ... I cannot upload to an existing folder as a mere subscriber. Dennis
