Hallo all,
maybe I'm just too silly, but I hav not yet found an option to set the MESZ (middle european summer time = UTC +2h) which? would be needed to send out invitations to the team correct. Any suggestion or is it still a bug? Thanks a lot in advance for any help! BR Hans |

Re: three yahoo groups to one GIO group?
#subgroups
#transfer
#yahoo
Roy,
The only thing special about transferring a Yahoo Group into a subgroup is that the Members of the Y!Group will be copied to both the subgroup and its primary group (except when a particular member's email address is already in the primary group). With that in mind I'd recommend performing the transfer of the primary group first, so that those memberships get copied from the main Yahoo Group. That will copy their Join Date, Email Delivery preferences, and Posting Privileges from primary Yahoo Group. If the subgroup were transferred first I'm not sure that would happen, I think those individuals would end up with default settings in the primary group. Re: Is there a way to force "via groups.io"?
#issue
Pete,
Not true. While -some- email servers use the envelope-From in SPF validation, -all- Exchange servers (most enterprise and business servers including Office 365) use the actual from address as well since this is a common form of spoofing. Perhaps read "-some-" email servers as every email service other than those powered by Microsoft Exchange. I guess that explains our disparate perceptions: I'd have to guess that the vast majority of the members of groups I've moderated (and the groups those members have moderated) have been consumer users, with mailboxes provided by Google, Yahoo Mail, AOL, and others not based on Exchange. For these services I've only seen aligning the header-From with the envelope-From in conjunction with DMARC. So I had been unaware that there was an ongoing deliverability problem with Exchange-powered mailbox providers, if Mark mentioned that earlier I must have missed it. But that's where my perception that you were talking about a fringe case came from. I realize you don't like or have experience with Microsoft Exchange or its common deployment (it also does not directly implement DMARC), but it is the most used enterprise and business mail server. You are correct that I don't have much experience with Exchange. I don't really have a like or dislike opinion of it, the one Exchange-based email address I have is a PITA to use, but I believe that's mostly a matter of security choices made by my client. Example: no IMAP/SMTP access, I have to use their webmail interface. Oh, and I'm not subscribed to any email lists via that address - so I've had no exposure to whatever issues that might entail. ? BTW, Yahoo has always supported having groups show the From as being the group, not the user so it would pass server tests that the from is not improperly originating from a non-domain-owned mail server. Unless you mean the option to hide one's email and IP addresses, I've never heard of such a thing. Before that 2014 Yahoo Groups blog post I cited, all header-from addresses passed through Yahoo Groups unaltered -- as stated in the blog post. I have ten years of examples (2003 to 2013) from various Yahoo Groups consistent with that behavior. ? I guess I need to open this over on the beta group.? Thank you for letting me know where to go with this issue. You're welcome. All-in-all I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner when you said "crickets". That option is not available in Groups.io. I think your only option would be to post it in the official "suggestion box" as a new option for the Messages section:? At present, the only thing you could do to make them unavailable would be to delete them. But that would make them unavailable to the moderators/owners too.

You can change the number of items you see per page.? Go to your Account, select Preferences, and change the Items Per Page setting.? Most of the time I use 50.? Infinite Scroll doesn't work on some items, like databases, but not sure if it works on Poll results.? If not, you may want to use 100.

I'm afraid it's a bug. Only 20 respondents appear per page. There were two? respondents on a second page, which is why there is a total of 22 on the see results page vs 20 on the see who responded . The bug is a different one, though. When you want to reply to those 8 who voted for answer #1, you will only reply to the 6 who are on the first page. You have to go to the second page to send an email to those responders separately. I have 150 members.

Excel Files on iPhone
Is anyone else having difficulty opening an excel file on their iPhone? I've got a multi tabbed XLSX file saved into our groups Files section and while I can open it up and view the tab headers, I can't see the actual contents of the tabs. Other users in my group are experiencing the same thing.

Disable Members from reading Messages from Homepage
I just opened up an IO Group. My members are used to Yahoo groups, In Yahoo I had the archives or conversations unavailable to members. I'd like to do the same thing for IO Groups as some members are responding to the messages from the homepage and requesting signature tags from closed offers. I need that information to be only available for Owners and Moderators. What do I need to do in order for that to happen. Ilene?

I created a poll yesterday, and I find my results look different depending on how I look at it.
If I look at the 'see? Results', the total of the votes overall show as 22 (with 8 for the first answer, and 3 for the third answer). But when I look at the poll results using "see who responded", I the votes only total 20 votes (with 7 for the first answer and 2 for the third). I know that I personally changed my vote from the third answer to the first answer. So the 'see who responded' column seems to reflect that change. But the 'see results' total, which shows the tally by %, seems to show my first vote, and my second vote. I am afraid this vote can be rigged! Is that a bug? -- Norm |

Hotmail post from owner rejected
Glenn Folkvord
Hello,
?
I'm a relatively new Groups.io user who has been running an announcement-type list for a couple of months now, after abandoning Yahoogroups. Up until today it all ran smoothly.?
?
Starting today I am not able to post announcements to my groups.io account from my Hotmail web account. The message bounces and I get an error message as pasted below. My Hotmail adress is the owner of said groups.io group.??In fact, I was not even able to join this Moderator Forum with my Hotmail email and had to join with my secondary Yahoo account.?
?
I made no changes to my groups.io account or my membership. I checked a thread from last year that seemed to have this problem; "new subscriber cannot send message to group" by Bob B., where the solution was lacking or erraneous subject field. Someone else suggested the sender's email was not subscribed to the group or sent to the wrong groups.io adress. I double checked all of that and everything seems fine.
?
Then I contacted Hotmail support which suggest that the domain groups.io needs to be whitelisted to communicate with Microsoft's domains. Whitelistig can be done here:
?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/getsupport?oaspworkflow=start_1.0.0.0&wfname=capsub&productkey=edfsmsbl3&locale=en-us&ccsid=636094517133798255
?
Alternatively, the error might be because the domain groups.io is not configured correctly, Microsoft/Hotmail support suggests. "One needs to check that with the domain supplier" they say. Contact the whitelist support here:?
?
https://postmaster.live.com/snds/FAQ.aspx?
?
On that page there is a link called "If I have more questions, whom should I ask?" to get in touch with Postmaster for Outlook.com.?
?
More about whitelisting:
?
Hotmail support furthermore suggested that someone from the organization/company that runs groups.io looks into this because it's a commercial field, not an end user field.
?
Is this forum read by groups.io staff who might look into this or know something about the above?
?
I was able to log into my groups.io web interface and post from there, so the announcement did go out eventually, but I prefer to post from Hotmail.?
?
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: What does "Not Confirmed" mean?
The "not confirmed" concept is pretty straightforward but is rarely well-explained. In the following, I will often use the words "email address" and "account" interchangeably. In groups.io, they are the same thing.
It is possible to "create an account" (i.e.: a recognized email address) on groups.io by simply clicking on a subscription link. However, by this mechanism it is entirely possible to subscribe someone else's email address without their knowledge. The system needs to know two things at this point: 1) The person behind that email address really wants a groups.io account, and 2) The person is capable of receiving messages, or at least retrieving them in some way. To that end, a "confirmation email" is sent. Clicking on the link in that email confirms that at least one email got through and that the recipient really wants to receive more. At that point the "NC" status is removed and normal message delivery begins. "NC" status can also be removed if the user actually logs into groups.io using that email address. The presumption here is that the user will review group messages online; and might proceed to set their email delivery to "no email," although the latter is not a requirement to clear the status. To be absolutely clear, "NC" status is set for the account, not the group. Once an email address/account has cleared this once, that user can subsequently join other groups and receive messages immediately. More information on this than you might ever want to know can be found in the GMF wiki:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List? Those of you who feel this process to be a bunch of nonsense can override it all by paying for a Premium group and using Direct Add instead. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Can a monthly message be sent to the members automatically

In Yahoo Groups, I had a letter with our group's guidelines that was stored in Files and automatically sent out each month. Does Groups.io have that feature? If so, would someone direct me to the site that has instructions on how to set that up? Thanks! |
