Hi AllLogin information is stored as a cookie. For security reasons, some people disable storing of cookies beyond a browser session, just in case they forget to log out. This makes sense for shared computers (say, at the local library), a smartphone that could become lost or stolen, etc. However, it doesn't make a lot of sense for a home computer in a secure location. If you can get information from your subscriber as to what device and browser she is using to access the site, I'm sure someone here can provide details on how to configure it so the GIO login cookie will be "remembered."? Hi, ? Thank you for your reply. Many of the group members are repying using their email programs. Does the Private button show up then? All of us are using screen readers because we are blind and I do not recall seeing that button. Thank you for your understanding and help. ? Charis ? ?

How to show as a member, rather than the name of my group

Hello, I recently started a new group, so I am the owner. The problem I am trying to correct is how I personally show up under subscribers and in the directory. I show up as the name of my group, rather than my own name. I've had several members ask me why I'm not listed as a member. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks! |
Re: Yahoo might be dead - transfer questions
Jim,
Thanks, Duane. There was nothing new there but I told them again to proceed in case the first one failed to transmit. "Transmit" is an odd word to use there. But maybe you weren't using it in the sense of sending an email. What do you mean by "nothing new"? Do you mean that the name of the Y!Group was not in the drop-list on the bottom right of of the instructions page? If not then you hadn't yet clicked the green Start Group Transfer Process button at the bottom of the transfer setup page. Or you had, but were logged in under a different email address - the content of that list is account specific. Or do you mean that the Y!Group name was there, but clicking it produced a status page that contained no new information? In this case if you had clicked the button at the bottom that authorizes the transfer agent to begin copying then that button and all the checkboxes should become disabled - you can't change your mind once you give that authorization - other than by using the red button to cancel the transfer request. Re: File/Folder Security
Jerry,
You can do that in the group's Wiki. When you create or edit a page there's an
Only moderators can edit this page checkbox. At present the Wiki lacks some of the structure of the Files section (like a sortable list view of all the pages), which can make it awkward for some purposes. On the other hand its text content doesn't count against your group's storage (but photos or other images in it do). Re: User name is not set
Randy,
In a way I think it is the appendix of Groups.io - its utility lost in the misty past. A user who sets one has a "friendly" URL that brings you to their group profile. For example: It used to be that there was also an URL for one's account profile, but that no longer seems to work: It originally marked the difference between one having a publicly visible profile, or one that only you can see. (Full Name later got changed to Display Name) There was some talk, in the discussion of "anonymous" groups, that it would be sent in the From field of emails, and/or be shown in the group's Members list, in place of the user's actual email address. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAnother hijacked topic. Can anyone answer the original question regarding User Name? Randy T ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Paul Ohio USA via Groups.Io

Re: Direct Add before Easy Transfer

Duane,
If people join here before a transfer, I don't think the files and photos will be connected to them once those are done.? That's not a problem. Unless they joined under a different email address than they had in the Y!group. ? If the owner isn't 'found', they get attributed to the group owner. That's what happens when the email address associated with that content isn't present in the Groups.io group at the time that content transferred over. Subscribing ahead of the transfer isn't a problem. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: File/Folder Security
I don't believe there's an option to allow anyone other than the file owner (uploader) and moderators to edit/delete them.? For information that you'd like to allow everyone to change, a database is the only way I know of, provided it's set up that way.
