Re: groups and spam

At first, I suggest you moderate only the email address that is being spoofed, and have whoever is subscribed using it get a new email address.?Go to Admin->Members, click on the spoofed member's name, then go to the bottom where is says Posting Privileges. Set to override: moderated.

If the problem persists, somehow the problem person got a list of group members, and may even be subscribed to your list under a different address. At that point I would shut down the member directory and under no circumstances would I make the member list visible to anybody who is not a trusted Moderator.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Can you ave your members taken off mod status after 2-5 posts then you can know who is doing this?

If you have any email addresses for the person, you can ban the email addresses - see?

There was a discussion about iP addresses - but it would need further searching. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/278

Bob,

I know what you mean. While I was thinking about moving my group I didn¡¯t think any of the members would be willing to pay anything, especially since the YG didn¡¯t cost anyone a thing. It was my personal decision to move and keep the group together, and I didn¡¯t ask anyone for money as this was my own pet project¡A hobby if you will. I have has a couple members offer to pay, but the amount it costs to have our new home is so small, I easily pay for it every month by not going out for coffee so much.

Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam #poll

I'd perhaps better add msn.com to the list. I have one or two syntax errors to put right as well.

I'm still hoping for some feedback about the additions to the How can I stop this from happening again section, but it all seems to have gone very quiet... too quiet.?

I was reading the documentation of the groups.io API this afternoon. In doing so, I discovered that there is indeed a limit to the number of people who can be direct-added to a Premium group per day. I suspect it may be something to keep someone from sending $10 to Mark?and then building a huge email list to use for spamming purposes.

I don't know what the numeric value is, but it could impact your mailing list migration plans. I suggest you contact Mark at [email protected]?and ask him about it directly before proceeding.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Google Sites Wiki

Nicely done. Worth 10,000 words.

Can you convert it to New Sites so we can see how it comes out?

Re: Using Groups.io Databases - Step by Step

Hi Milt,

I'd recommend blanking out or changing the phone numbers and personal e-mail addresses that you're now sharing the personal information of.

Re: How to make payments from a small non-profit #Discussion

It would seem that at least one member or Board Member could handle the payments and that the nonprofit would reimburse them for the outlay.
The reimbursement could be for each month or annually.
This shouldn't be rocket science.
It sounds like a great deal of worry about an extremely small amount of money.

Subscriptions- email content

Patrick 2E0ETF

i just had an issue with another groups.io group where we were having a number of replies to a Message.
i responded to another member¡¯s reply directed at me. Now another member has complained that when I reply I should have quoted the message that I replied to.

my response is that the message was part of a thread and expanding the message shows all the messages. Several other members agreed.?

The issue is that the member that complained only reads the emails that he¡¯s sent. The email do not show the thread. He finds it easier to scan his emails and delete those he¡¯s not interested in. Several others agr ed they do it that way too.
no worries, different people do things differently.

however,in subscriptions it might be useful to be able to allow the system to send not just the latest message, but maybe have an option to sent for example the last 2 or 3 messages, to give context. I couldn¡¯t see how to do it IF it¡¯s an option already

sorry to be a bit long-winded

Patrick

Re: Topics vs Messages

Sharon/all,
? Hashtags are just as likely to be unreliable as subject lines - simply
because both of them are dependent upon the poster using them.
And, in my experience, people are -very- prone to 'wandering' off
the topic (one post suggests something else to the person doing
the "reply") and they often do not change the subject line/hashtag
when they post something that is unrelated to the current thread.
? Often it is hard to fault any one post.? Someone sees something
and it sparks a marginally related idea - and they post a message
that is 'acceptably within the scope of the post they are replying to" ...
and then someone else increases the drift ... and what was the
intent of the O.P. gets lost altogether.

? I consider this to be a 'natural' phenomenon (i.e. people aren't
likely to change the subject line because that's just a little bit
more work) and also a direct result of people using their
phone/tablet where it is more difficult to change the subject
line.? On my phone, for example, I can't -easily- change the
subject line of an email - in order to do so I have to totally
replace it by first backspacing thru all of the line.

? ? I, for one, rarely if ever, use anything other than my
desktop with a real keyboard and mouse to "work on my
groups" - it's actually much easier for both replies and
just reading..

? There is another aspect - many of us these days do not
seem to "care" about things such as grammar or?
spelling.? *Sigh*.? The predominant thinking is "as long
as I expect everyone to figure it out ... why bother
correcting stuff like that" ... "I don't have time for that
kind of stuff".? Pride in your work?

I Message view, what appears at first sight to be a Topics button is actually a pull-down menu. Click on that and select Messages.

Subject: [GMF] Question on Message Formatting

So we're trying to migrate from Yahoo Groups and I was wondering if there's a setting where a Replay to a message shows up as a new message (as it does in Yahoo Groups). This would be more beneficial for our group structure instead of the chain/thread of messages with the same title.

Re: Adding about 3100 members

I was going to reply suggesting the Direct Add function of the Premium service but then I wondered how you get a list of 3100 people into it. As I am on the Basic Plan, my only experience with Direct Add is with adding members of the main group to a sub-group. It allows 20 at a time but, obviously, has no provision for importing lists. Searching Help gave no guidance nor was there explicit info in the message archive. I did come across a direct question about file format which remains unanswered. Why?

Re: Question on Message Formatting
