Re: What to do if your YGroup's transfer to Groups.io is incomplete? . . . . . . .

This happened to my group during transfer. About 1/3 of the photos in my group were left behind. I contacted support, and was told to start a new transfer for only that area--unchecking every other box, after I deleted what was transferred. While it made me nervous and took about a week, the new photos showed up.?

In our group, we ask members who are replying to something specific to clip and quote - like I just did above - to make the context obvious. (Highlight what you want to quote before hitting Reply.) Depending on the email client, that may be easier or harder to do.

We actually have the opposite problem - most people seem to keep the whole original message in their reply so we end up with a message plus a chain of replies that include most of the topic! I appreciate that the Message Archive shortens that up with the use of the blue button with 3 dots to open up the included previous messages. (Which of course, doesn't help those who just read in email.)

My guess is that, if there was an option to send the last 2 or 3 messages in a topic with a new reply, that would drive people nuts faster because they'd be getting duplicate messages all the time. We'll never make *everybody* happy.

Someone with a Premium account should speak to this. I stated that about Direct Add on a sub-group of a Basic group. And it is not a daily limit. Rather, it is the number listed on a page that can be selected at one time. If there is more than one page, you select one page at a time.

Re: What to do if your YGroup's transfer to Groups.io is incomplete? . . . . . . .

Paul,
? I think you are worrying about stuff that is highly unlikely.? I've now been a
participant is about 20 different transfers - as a member, as a moderator,
and as an owner - and none of them had problems.
? The only 'left behinds' were for one truly large group (over 10,000 members)
and it had a couple of hundred members that weren't transferred ... because
they were bouncing on YG.? A member that is bouncing can not be moved
and they can't be contacted to say 'what do you want to do?'.??
? That same large yahoo group had a lot of members 'who just hadn't taken
themselves off the YG' ... and so, for the first couple of weeks only, we had a
fairly large number of "this member has left groups.io" - because they didn't
want to be on the group any more.? I suppose it is possible that a few of
them objected to groups.io - but no one told us that (I was a moderator on
that group).

? Relax and just do it.? The transfer process is smooth and you will not
have complaints about being on groups.io from your members.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? - Jim

P.S. My only "problem" with the transfer process is that there are still some
? ? ? ?groups on yahoo that I'm a member of that haven't transferred yet!

request for a bulk add function

I'm pretty sure that Mark has allowed folks to add more than 20 at one time by contacting him before it's done.? Especially in a case like this where the original group isn't on Yahoo or Google to use the transfer system.? It's not a problem when adding folks to a subgroup that are already members of the main group.? It doesn't interfere with transfers from Yahoo either.

Re: Adding about 3100 members

Thanks Bruce,
Interesting information about the per day limit; that one could be a problem for me as I'm hoping to heavily rely on subgroups when I bring numerous yahoo groups over and corral them into one main group with subgroups.? The 20 "at a time" limit is also a concern, and I was thinking about adding a beta request for a bulk add function for subgroups.??

Question - has any of this been addressed before with a resolution to stay as currently configured or is there room for added subgroup functionality?
Thanks again
Beth

btw, where is the API documentation? I found it weeks ago, but not now when I was actually looking for it.?

Re: What to do if your YGroup's transfer to Groups.io is incomplete? . . . . . . .

Paul,

So, in such a case would we then have an opportunity to make a 2nd transfer request asking that the things which had been 'left behnd' could be moved?

Or, is a 2nd attempt to transfer any 'left behind' things not something that Groups.io is able to do?

Yes, you can.

If you go to the "In Process" page for the completed transfer there's a red button at the bottom that will allow you to delete the old transfer status. Then you initiate a new transfer from the same Y!Group to the Groups.io group, selecting only the sections that were missing.

If a section was only partially copied (e.g. some files copied, some not) I believe the automation will automatically skip any content that is already present in the Groups.io group, but I haven't tested that (and haven't had to, knock-on-wood).

The idea here is that some of Yahoo Groups' failures have been sporadic, so it is possible that a second attempt may be able to copy some items that hadn't been accessible the first time. If you can now access (using the normal Yahoo Group web page) any of the items listed as not transferred, then there's a good chance that the transfer agent will be able to now also. If you can't, maybe wait in hope that you can later.

Also, if you can now it would likely be prudent to go ahead and download them manually (if there aren't so many as to make that impractical), just in case.

What to do if your YGroup's transfer to Groups.io is incomplete? . . . . . . .

Gentle GMF Members,

?

Got the email reply ref EZ Groups Transfer after sending an invite for Groups.io to join my YGroups group.

One important thing mentioned in the email ¨Capart from the things to do to prepare for the transfer¨C was a remark that due to YG's current unreliability it could happen that Groups.io 'may not be able to transfer over all of [our] messages, photos or files.'

This email says that should such a thing happen that Groups.io would tell us which things were not transferred.? So, in such a case would we then have an opportunity to make a 2nd transfer request asking that the things which had been 'left behnd' could be moved?

Or, is a 2nd attempt to transfer any 'left behind' things not something that Groups.io is able to do?

Comments?? Suggestions?

Re: Are Yahoo Group Transfers No Longer Accepted #transfer #yahoo

Victoria,

I looked there many times and I do see a drop down menue on the transfer form but nothing?s written in there.

Then you do not have a transfer "In Process", nor have you any completed transfers for which there is status information. Transfers completed before this new page was put in place won't be listed there, but any after that should be.

If you think there should be some listed there, is it possible you're now logged in using a different email address than when you initiated the transfers? The page is specific to a particular user account.

I understand everything in headers. You can email me full headers of the spoofed messages.

Re: groups and spam

At first, I suggest you moderate only the email address that is being spoofed, and have whoever is subscribed using it get a new email address.?Go to Admin->Members, click on the spoofed member's name, then go to the bottom where is says Posting Privileges. Set to override: moderated.

If the problem persists, somehow the problem person got a list of group members, and may even be subscribed to your list under a different address. At that point I would shut down the member directory and under no circumstances would I make the member list visible to anybody who is not a trusted Moderator.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Can you ave your members taken off mod status after 2-5 posts then you can know who is doing this?

There was a discussion about iP addresses - but it would need further searching. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/278

Re: How to make payments from a small non-profit #Discussion

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Bob,

I know what you mean. While I was thinking about moving my group I didn¡¯t think any of the members would be willing to pay anything, especially since the YG didn¡¯t cost anyone a thing. It was my personal decision to move and keep the group together, and I didn¡¯t ask anyone for money as this was my own pet project¡A hobby if you will. I have has a couple members offer to pay, but the amount it costs to have our new home is so small, I easily pay for it every month by not going out for coffee so much.

I'd perhaps better add msn.com to the list. I have one or two syntax errors to put right as well.

I'm still hoping for some feedback about the additions to the How can I stop this from happening again section, but it all seems to have gone very quiet... too quiet.?

I was reading the documentation of the groups.io API this afternoon. In doing so, I discovered that there is indeed a limit to the number of people who can be direct-added to a Premium group per day. I suspect it may be something to keep someone from sending $10 to Mark?and then building a huge email list to use for spamming purposes.

I don't know what the numeric value is, but it could impact your mailing list migration plans. I suggest you contact Mark at [email protected]?and ask him about it directly before proceeding.

Hope this helps,
