Re: Are Yahoo Group Transfers No Longer Accepted #transfer #yahoo

You need to invite?[email protected]?from your yahoo group
Once it is accepted you need to promote?[email protected]?to Moderatot
Once that's done you can then initiate the transfer

I believe this means you can edit their email address, as in the case of typos, when they apply to your group.? You can also remove their NC status if they don't click on the link in the confirmation email when getting a new groups.io account.

Premium features...more explanation, please

Per the Pricing page, there are a number of additional features available in Premium groups. I need a better understanding of these features so I can sell the notion of an upgrade to our [non-profit] board.

Storage, Integrations, Direct-Add, Track Removed Members, RSVPs -- I can get my head around these.

"Track Removed Members" sounds like chipping them with a miniaturized GPS, but I think I know what it really means. I like the idea of the RSVP feature but we're kinda "married" to Google Calendaring at this point. We won't be able to use it until I can convince others to get a divorce...or at least a trial separation. The ability to embed the GIO calendar in our web site (via an iframe or whatever) would also help, if anyone has successfully done that.

The following features I still don't understand:

  • "Edit Emails and Confirm Members" -- We can already edit messages online. What does "edit emails" mean? I can confirm members when they apply, too, Does this imply a capability to bypass NuM and other Spam Control settings?
  • "Group aliases to prevent confusion" -- This seems like more of a source of confusion to me. I have no clue as to what this could possibly mean.
  • "API access" -- What features of the basic GIO package can I customize/enhance via the interface? What are the function calls/hooks, and where is the documentation??
Despite greater understanding of search engine features, I've been unable to track down any threads on this topic either here or in beta.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

There does seem to be some sort of problem.

? ? ? ? ? ?[email protected]?-?BAD 451 4.3.2 Internal server error

Hopefully, just a temporary server issue. If the problem persists, you can try sending an email to [email protected]?and if that doesn't work, the onlline support page is still up:?

Er... have you read this thread from the beginning? I know it's getting a bit long and might well get longer, but the topic has been exhaustively discussed with the aim of finding the best "way ahead". FWIW that seems to be a wiki, written as comprehensively as can be managed.

Re: Are Yahoo Group Transfers No Longer Accepted #transfer #yahoo

You have to invite the transfer agent to your Yahoo group, not your groups.io group.

Re: Topics vs Messages

Topic = Subject around which a discussion ensues and is set by the first message.

Discussion = the series of messages replying to the first or subsequent messages under that Topic.

Thread = a series of consecutive replies, e.g., A replies, B replies to A, C replies to B,... Threads can branch, e.g., D also replies to A, A to D, X to D,...

Discussions can be presented as threaded (indent for each reply) or flat ( unthreaded). Groups.io is flat. More explanation?.

?Haha.

I wanted to use "Threads" so many times, but deleted the word, not knowing what terminology is common to others here. So, I ended up with that lame sounding explanation instead.

Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam #poll

Simon Bao

Following up with a "removed" member might be a reasonable course of action on small lists.

Due to some erratic behavior by Yahoo Mail, *some* incoming mails are automatically but inappropriately dumped into users' SPAM folders, thus marking the messages as SPAM even when they are not, even when the user has not so marked them, and doesn't even know about this.

I got booted from a IO Group for marking messages as SPAM, though I'd never done so and it came as news to me.?

I don't think it's a bug with Yahoo Mail, it seems to be a feature.? If a user deletes an email message without reading it, Yahoo Mail concludes that it was SPAM and so marks some or all additional incoming messages from that source as SPAM.? Even if the source is Yahoo Groups.? At least with my account - and I am betting that's the case with many other Yahoo Mail accounts as well.?

Hi Robert,
I didn't realize that this was a feature of a paid group. I took a paid group for the expanded storage but now have two features that have come in real handy:
  • Ability to add members
  • Past Member List

Hi Chris,
I didn't realize that this was a paid group feature. I just looked in an unpaid group and no "Past" member list.
Sorry about that but am very glad to have this feature, it is really handy. Oddly, Banned members appear in the Member List but not Past.

Being able to add members, more storage and other features like this IMHO are worth the money, I've attached an image of the list.

Re: Directory #directory

Is a moderator able to set this for all members of the group so they can all see each other in the directory, or must each individual member make that setting in their Group Profile?

This is only available on premium groups.

There are a couple of features that were introduced, then moved to premium groups.? Mark has said several times that he would never remove a feature once introduced, so some early groups are grandfathered in to features that are no longer included in a free group.? How many other services would offer that? ;>)

Hi Mary Ellen,

Groups.io has a couple of nice features, not available in Yahoo Groups, that help with the Spam issue.

  1. The first is the message sent to the owner has the member's email address so you can contact them.
  2. The second is a list of past members, including why they are no longer members.
  3. The last is the ability to download a member list not limited to 1000.

Paul, Ohio, USA

?

Thanks for the info.? We are planning to move to Groups.IO soon.
