Re: Download of member list as admin #issue

In Chrome, you can right-click on the page and select Save As...
In Edge, I didn't find a Save function - right-click, Select-All, open Notepad, paste, save as members.csv (or whatever name you like with .csv extension)

Re: Download of member list as admin #issue

At that point, you Save Page (or whatever your browser calls it) and you're done.? Because I own several groups, I rename it to [groupname].csv before saving so I can keep a copy of each one.

Hi Mary Ellen,
Groups.io has a couple of nice features, not available in Yahoo Groups, that help with the Spam issue.
  • The first is the message sent to the owner has the member's email address so you can contact them.
  • The second is a list of past members, including why they are no longer members.
  • The last is the ability to download a member list not limited to 1000.

Re: Need to be able to customize Invite message.

The Google Groups invitation is a good model:
Short standard sentence invitation
Custom paragraph from administrator
Group description
Boiler plate about Groups
Boiler plate about spam, abuse reporting, help...
ACCEPT button
Opt out of all future invitations from Groups

Being Google, I expect the mandatory stuff is in the designated language of the Group.

Download of member list as admin #issue

Perhaps this was questioned before, but searching for download member information, I can't find it.

When I try to download my list of members, a new page opens up on my Chrome browser ending with
"memberlist.csv"

But nothing downloads.

How do I save this as a csv file?

Re: Unusable e-mail address for reply

I think I understand. Since I usually use my e-mail (A ghost of Yahoo) to reply I can just Reply All and if the original
Sender does not get the reply, he will get it on the Group. The worst offender has been combative and refuses to do anything about his address. Perhaps there is no solution but he denies any problem. I put him on Moderate.
Thanks, Richard

At Settings > Message Formatting put a check mark at Plain Text Only.

Now your members can enter their information without affecting the layout if you put each item on a new line, with space in between and ask everyone to type replies into the blank lines.
Result, Headers the way you want them and replies beneath.
Clarity without attachments.

Shal, J, Bruce or the other seniority posters would know if incoming messages from HTML only poster are turned to TXT at GIO or if the setting only applies to the web.
Most eMail systems set for HTML are sending mail out in plain text simultaneously.

Thanks for the help.
I was able to talk to my ISP tech help eventually, they had no idea why it was happening and that they couldn¡¯t help me days later... when I told them if they had answered me straight away when I first contacted them it would have been happening, they were rather apologetic... lol.. that still didn¡¯t answer my question but they ¡°reset my mail¡±, whatever that means, and it hasn¡¯t happened since. Mail sent to my group is now taking a minute or less, so I am pleased about that.
Thanks again.

Win,

I assume you mean the activity log for my own group... that was where I checked...
?
Yes indeed.
?
Just checked again and those missing emails are definitely not in the message activity log, so I guess that they have never arrived.
I fully expected Mailer-Daemon messages about them, but I have received nothing from my ISP.
?
An offlist question from a Y!GMF member reminds me of another possibility. Your email service could be encountering a failure it interprets as "temporary" - so it hasn't reported the failure yet, pending some retries.
?
Now that more are missing, and I have confirmed that there isn¡¯t a problem at , ...
?
I guess I can't absolutely rule out a problem with the inbound handling at Groups.io. That in fact was what the Y!GMF member was asking about - a message eventually got reported back (Delivery Failure) to her Gmail inbox by one Yahoo server that couldn't find another Yahoo server.

I just really really don't expect that kind of a problem here; so borrowing Occam's razor I point the finger at your email service.
?
I fully expect they will tell me that there is nothing wrong at their end and it is happening elsewhere... but another message that has not been delivered is to my husbands computer downstairs... lol... same account, different email address... how can anything like that occur ??
?
Ok, yeah. That's pretty much all on their hands!

? ?Others, here, have?also brought up an interesting point.? ?The group I am forming consists of residents in a semi-upscale condo complex in Miami.? ?For some number, Spanish is a first language.? Again, even for English speakers, the boiler plate just doesn't cut it.? ??

Two Groups Into One

Pam

Hello All!

I've just joined and so haven't spent a lot of time looking through the archives. In other words, forgive me if this is addressed elsewhere, lol.

Is it possible to integrate two Yahoo groups into one group here? When the neo nonsense started, I found another yahoo platform that hadn't changed yet, and moved the group there. It ended up changing as well, of course, and now I'd like to have the messages from both groups moved into one here, if possible.

Thanks for any help and sorry for my ignorance! I promise I'm looking through how this all works.

Thanks!

:P

Need to be able to customize Invite message.

Mike, Shal, Don,

I am quite familiar with this thread since I started it, I believe. As far as I am concerned all the reasons that have been brought up do not convince me of the advantages of the boiler plate. It is not only that this boiler plate gives me the impression that as owner of my group I am not able to create my own personal invitation; it also is a huge handicap for non-English speaking people as many have pointed out. The option of creating lines and setting my own statement in between or on top of them is no solution for me. This even confuses people more, I?ve been told.

The chance of this type of confusing - and in non-English speaking groups - multi-language text mail to land in spam filters is much bigger than the one of a simple invitation sent in my own personal words. Generally I know the person I send an invitation to anyway. All these considerations have brought me to completely do without sending this sort of invitation. Instead I have switched over to sending personal messages if I want to invite someone.

Maybe a solution to this issue could be to shorten the boiler plate text down to a single sentence. This would be consistent with the spam idea, it woldn?t confuse non-English speaking people (as long as there aren?t other language versions available) and owners could still put their own invitation below that basic sentence.

Just an idea....

The Group Owner / Moderators receive a Notification from Groups.io that the member has been unsubscribed. This whole thread started because of the way in which the two messages were worded; I should know because I started it! Both Notifications can be seen in the draft wiki at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam but please note that the a further change to the members' notification has been requested.

We have some?technologically illiterate?members.? I would follow up with each "removed" member to give training if I know their email addresses.
Given the residual uncertainties about the way the system operates that might be challenging; bear in mind the additional potential for confusion arising from different combinations of Service Providers' mail UIs and Email Client UIs.

Rereading some of? Shal's comments in earlier emails I intend to do a further edit to the Mechanism section later.

A Topic is a group of messages that consisting of the initial message and all ongoing replies. Hence, the name of the Topic is the subject of the first message.

The number shown in Topics view is a count of the messages in the topic.

Topics vs Messages

Why do the numbers for lists show number of topics instead of the number of messages?

What counts as a topic? Is it the same as messages?

Why have ¡°topics¡±?

Excellent job, Bruce.

I've also noticed that when you are given results to a search, a Tools button appears with some additional options.

Don,

What I would like to be able to do is send an invite message to myself so I can what it really looks like¡For editing purposes.

In the Invitation to be Sent box the Invite page gives you a live copy of the message, including your inserted section. The only thing missing is the filled in invitee name replacing [Name] in the sample.

If you're looking for a static example, look in your inbox for an invitation to shalstest.
