Start to Finish Message Transfer
Al Silverstein
I noticed that the transfer of one of my lists from Yahoo Groups to groups.io has started.
I have not received a email indicating that the transfer took, or is taking place. It appears that all of the active memberships have been transferred. It appears that all of the files and photos have been transferred. What does not to have been completed is a transfer of all of the messages. According to the message count on the Yahoo Groups list there should be a little over 212,000 messages. On the Groups.io list there is a little over 29,000 messages. My question is how long should I wait before querying [email protected] about the missing 183,000 messages? Al |

Groups.io site updates
#changelog
Hi all,
This week's change log: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. NEW: When a user changes their email address to an address taken by anThis might in some circumstances help with individuals who by accident, or by transfer from Yahoo Groups, end up subscribed to groups under more than one email address but would prefer to use only one. They still can't directly merge those accounts, but at least they now can move valuable memberships (ones that would be hard to re-subscribe, or where you don't want to lose content control) to the preferred address; even if at the cost of first unsubscribing all the other memberships tied to the preferred address. NEW: 'All Posts By This Member' in group profile pages.Nice. I like not having to track down one of their messages first. NEW: Moderators can now change members' email addresses.Important phrase missing: "In Premium groups ...". Also other caveats: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/5508 CHANGE: More updates to the Yahoo Group transfer process after IThose would be what were called "Closed" groups in classic, in Neo that's "By invitation only" in the Who can Join selector of the Group Settings tab of the Control Panel. Comments about these others are also welcome: CHANGE: Removed the list of public subgroups from the group home page, Please call out any you find significant. Member Notice Notices

Re: How do I make message or file repeat
Lyn,
I would like to make a message that just goes out to new subscribersThat would be a Member Notice of type "Welcome". Or, if your group has restricted membership and you'd like it to go out when they apply to your group (before you approve them) it would be a "Pending Subscription" notice. /static/help#membernotices o On your group's Settings page, in the row of buttons near the top, click on the Member Notices. o In the list of notices, select and edit the "Welcome" notice, if there is one. Or use the blue New Notice button to create one. o Same for "Pending Subscription", but there is not normally a default one in a new group. Another one as a mid-month reminder of projects and such. That's a little trickier, as there isn't a scheduling feature available for Member Notices (nor for Files, the way one could in Yahoo Groups). My recommendation is to use a calendar event for that. Re: Using Activity log
J,
Searching email addresses on the activity log has never worked. ...That's certainly not my experience. An example of my complaint is that searching for "shals" brings up nothing. Where I think it should match instances of "shals2nd". The latter does bring up only instances of me though. Too, a dotted phrase is considered a "whole word". That is, "verizon" gives no results, but "verizon.net" gives only items containing "verizon.net". Re: Can transferring files be done separately?

Milt,
Would you say it's likely that a second try following your directionsI can't even hazard a guess. From what I've read the errors seem to be random, rather than tied to specific content. So that would bode well. But whether you'd get more than just another 20% I don't know. Too, I don't know for certain that Mark considers a retry like this to be a proper use of the transfer facility. But I think it would bother him less to have you try it than to have you ask about it. Kudos to Mark and his team at GIO on the great job they've done!Indeed. He's not a member here but I'm sure good karma goes with the kudos. Credit where it is due and all that. You can follow through them when it was received at various steps to determine

Re: Using Activity log
Marv,
Searching on segments of email address, I didn't find much-- herThe problem may be the segments: The activity log search suffers from the defect of being a whole-word match. This is unlike the Members list, where searching on partial words match. I think this amounts to a bug in the Activity search. cc'd to support to see if Mark agrees. Re: Continuity of IO
I get it also. I understand most of the member's thoughts now. Not what I had expected, though. As far as why it should be a topic here? I think it is very appropriate here and it has reached a certain limit to only those who's mind has been made up long ago. To some of us new to IO it is still a topic of concern.
No more from me, on this, though. I know now what I will do. I think it is pretty clear what the organizational structure is, unless Mark happens to jump in and clarify it. I thought some time back someone said Mark is in this discussion group. If not, those moderating this group can get hold of Mark on this issue. I could if someone would give me his email address. I got a message from him when I first joined GMF, but did not know who he was then. In the groups.io website under Updates, it only has a partial email address: @markf Stan On 3/3/2018 4:08 PM, J_Catlady wrote: I think we get the idea. Stan,
Unless I learn more from this group to sooth my concerns before I doI'm not trying to minimize your concerns, but the best any of us here can do is describe why we were/are willing to take this "leap of faith" Unless someone can cite any other public information that's relevant, I don't see how we members of GMF could possibly sooth your concerns; in one thread or another I think you've already been told or pointed to everything we know as facts about Groups.io and its prospects. Re: What's going on here?
Then there is always the pound sign used at least in the U.S. to indicate weight like 10# (lb.), and we can't forget about the # key on a phone, which is always referred to as the pound key.

Continuity of IO
Doug, and All,
First, I changed the subject line since someone thought it was inappropriate to be talking about this subject since the title was about Norton. However, I need to point out what I posted was in response to what had been said in that post. You are correct that IO is not state government and in that sense it is not comparable because IO is not providing a crucial service that is mandated by government. However, I used this as an example to try and make a point, the point being that IO could be in trouble sometime in the future with an organizational structure of only one person. It seems as though everyone keeps comparing IO to Yahoo to support this organizational structure. Because Yahoo is so bad, allegedly (I must be lucky since I have not had any major problems), the reasoning goes that this organizational structure of IO should not be a focus of concern. Someone in this thread asked how many people are developing or running Yahoo. Who knows? Let's assume, though, that it is just one person, like in IO. If this is true, then we are jumping from a frying pan by leaving Yahoo to another frying pan by going to IO. This is because in this scenario the only reason (although there are probably others such as antiquated systems in Yahoo) IO is better than Yahoo is because the IO individual is much better than the Yahoo individual. Someone suggested that maybe I need to stay in Yahoo if I have my concerns. I have seriously been thinking that. I had previously brought to the membership of the group that I was thinking of moving to IO and wanted their opinions about this. Unless I learn more from this group to sooth my concerns before I do it, probably in a week or so I will bring the subject up again in the group and lay out the situation and see what their opinion is now. Yahoo may crash, but if it does maybe I can develop my own server discussion group before then. It is a gamble. Stan On 3/3/2018 2:57 PM, Douglas Swearingen wrote:
