Re: What's going on here?
Then there is always the pound sign used at least in the U.S. to indicate weight like 10# (lb.), and we can't forget about the # key on a phone, which is always referred to as the pound key.

Continuity of IO
Doug, and All,
First, I changed the subject line since someone thought it was inappropriate to be talking about this subject since the title was about Norton. However, I need to point out what I posted was in response to what had been said in that post. You are correct that IO is not state government and in that sense it is not comparable because IO is not providing a crucial service that is mandated by government. However, I used this as an example to try and make a point, the point being that IO could be in trouble sometime in the future with an organizational structure of only one person. It seems as though everyone keeps comparing IO to Yahoo to support this organizational structure. Because Yahoo is so bad, allegedly (I must be lucky since I have not had any major problems), the reasoning goes that this organizational structure of IO should not be a focus of concern. Someone in this thread asked how many people are developing or running Yahoo. Who knows? Let's assume, though, that it is just one person, like in IO. If this is true, then we are jumping from a frying pan by leaving Yahoo to another frying pan by going to IO. This is because in this scenario the only reason (although there are probably others such as antiquated systems in Yahoo) IO is better than Yahoo is because the IO individual is much better than the Yahoo individual. Someone suggested that maybe I need to stay in Yahoo if I have my concerns. I have seriously been thinking that. I had previously brought to the membership of the group that I was thinking of moving to IO and wanted their opinions about this. Unless I learn more from this group to sooth my concerns before I do it, probably in a week or so I will bring the subject up again in the group and lay out the situation and see what their opinion is now. Yahoo may crash, but if it does maybe I can develop my own server discussion group before then. It is a gamble. Stan On 3/3/2018 2:57 PM, Douglas Swearingen wrote:

Re: do invitations expire?
How many times should you send an invitation to the same person? Depends on how much you want them to join! For my extended family group, I try again with the very few holdouts when something big is happening in the family. For my committee groups, I try a second time. So you decide! Frances |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDon, ? in my YG I sent it out manually for years. Was actually no problem but a bit fiddly. But that was some years ago and some things have changed quite a bit (like the number of groups and users at Groups.io). So maybe it is time for someone to ask Mark directly. I think you answered your own question. This is not a government operation...Mark IS groups.io. Perhaps he will weigh into this discussion and let us know what his continuity plans are, but I doubt it. Perhaps he will submit to a physical exam at the physician of our choice and undergo a psychological evaluation to show he isn't suicidal for the benefit of our community, but I doubt that will happen, either. So the ball is in [each of our's] court, and we have this choice: -- One system that's getting ongoing upgrades but has a mildly uncertain future (GIO). -- Another that's already sporadically functional [at best] and providing no user support at all (Y!G). -- A third that each group owner has to kludge together himself with hyperlinks and shared drives and such (Google). -- Facebook? Eech. I'm here, so I guess I made my choice. If continuity is someone else's primary concern then perhaps they should go in another direction. But we've strayed pretty far from the subject line, haven't we? Back on-topic, the Norton/AVG problem was a fluke. It might come back, but I suspect it won't be a persistent problem, especially if those in the GIO community have the good sense to complain about it to the right people. Bruce |

Someone in this group asked if there were any contingency plans if this person should be unable to carry out the tasks he is doing now. There never was an answer.? .... I clicked on Account, then Identity. The image of Arnold was still there. I clicked on Remove. It disappeared but then when I go back out of the page and go back into Identity it reappears. What am I doing wrong? Stan On 3/3/2018 2:10 PM, Duane wrote:
You have an Identity for your Account (site-wide) and each group. The way I understand it is if you Edit the one for the site, it will 'trickle down' unless you've changed one of the group identities from it's default (as noted at the top of the Identity page.) |

do invitations expire?
I seem to recall that in Yahoo groups the invitations expired after some amount of time (30 days?). Do invitations for Groups.io groups expire after a particular amount of time or are they good until canceled? Do you resend invitations after they haven't be responded to for a certain amount of time? If so what time period do you think is appropriate? It seems that if there is no response after a few attempts you should just forget about that person. How many tries do you make before giving up? Jonathan |
