May I ask what is the reason for not wanting any previous text of the message being replied to? Our groups all have different needs but without a little of the previous message at least the context is lost and in the groups archives its difficult to follow a thread without it So just wondered what your needs were? The extra message text does not count towards your storage allocation so you don't need to worry about that. I have a feeling you are making more work for yourself than is necessary. ?

To better understand your situation, I'm curious why you're editing the messages. Groups.io automatically hides most of the quoted material beyond the post being replied to. What does remain is often useful to the reader when opening the message separately. Since the amount of material in the message archives doesn't count against group space allocations, is this just for appearance in the archives? Right no I am editing those messages to remove the original and it is not something I want to do. |

FWIW, I like seeing the full history of the current thread up to the msg that the member is responding to. If you hate it, you can just eliminate the history for responses that you yourself create. Since the latest response appears on top, the history is easily ignored, so I don't see why it's a big deal. Here in GMF, if someone gets carried away, we moderators will often remove an over-quote, substituting a brief message explaining what was done. We hope this serves as a reminder of our expectations (I was going to say it's a "deterrent," but that sounds a little too harsh).

BTW, I don't keep any messages unless I want to save one to think about it and respond later. I rely on the message archive in my groups to re-read anything I want to.?

Note that they disappear automatically after 14 days if not claimed by an owner/moderator or dealt with.

The Help says if using email, it depends on the email application you are using. If are replying to a message on a group's website, you can automatically include all or part of the message (by selecting the text before clicking on reply).

Pending message stay in owner box even after they have been approved
Thank you all for your help and patience with our questions.? Our group just switched from only one reply option to all options available and its been a chaotic week as I learn the system and people respond to the change. All the messages that I approve and that are for "reply to group" are accumulating in my pending mail box. Can you direct me to the setting where I can have them go away once they are approved? Thanks. |

We are testing a switch from offering reply to sender as the only reply option. Now we offer ¡°reply to group and sender¡± as well as just sender or just group or just moderators. People who have set preferences for single emailsare complaining about way too many emails but don¡¯t want to change to digest. Others are happy seeing all the responses. Is there a way to accommodate both sides? ?Thanks, Emily? |

I'm pretty sure that the date shown for Bouncing accounts is the date the most recent Bounce Probe was sent by the system. I would wait at least until the badge turns Red (Bounced). At this point the system has sent probes every 3 or 4 days for at least 2 weeks. If the group member hasn't responded by this time they are probably no longer interested in being in the group or their address is no longer valid.

I check my groups periodically for bounces and delete those that never respond. It is rare that there are more than a handful at any one time. When we moved over from Yahoo there were quite a few bouncing addresses that ended up being deleted, but since then there have only been a few from time to time. I don¡¯t know if it is possible to tell if bounced members are using the web access as a way of knowing they shouldn¡¯t be deleted. In addition, you can also view the member record and display the Activity History for that member. The Activity Log will contain entries which show when an account has entered or left a bouncing state. You can see on this example from GMF (read from the bottom up) that a member subscribed and then went through the bouncing stages.? Bouncing refers to email delivery so there's a chance that those members may still be viewing messages online. I know a bounced member gets a prompt to un-bounce their account when they login to the Groups.io site but I believe they can still read messages anyway.? Whether you remove them or not comes down to how you wish to operate your group. If you have guidelines that state that hard bouncing members will be removed after a period of time then it would be reasonable to do so.? As in the example above, you could start by sending them a 'bounce probe' to see if it has any effect. ?
You can send multiple bounce probes at one time by filtering the member list by those in a bouncing state, selecting all the members on the list and then selecting Send Bounce Probe from the Actions button:

As you have lots of bouncing members, I'd recommend that you set your Items per Page to Infinite Scroll in your account preferences at /settings/prefs

This will allow you to scroll to the bottom of the list before selecting everyone and using the Actions button.? If you use the Groups.io app, the default is Infinite Scroll on the member list anyway so you would not need to change your preferences.
