Re: Dark mode and hashtags

Hello Andy

I can change the background font colour but not the colour of the hashtag name (white) as far as I can see.

It's the combination of quite a few background colours with this white text that is causing me this problem.

Simply logging in no longer verifies an account. RI accounts are instead taken to a page where they can either resend themselves the verification email or change their email address.

Re: Sudden, unwelcome change of font

We also have always had many comments from members on Defaulted font size. Including from Apple users. Myself included.

The new font still appears small but cleaner. And an android app user noted some font improvements for their app with enhancements.

If each groups could choose their own default font size that would be great. But may be too difficult for site engineering. Because of default size for posts, I end up editing some longer posts or replies to larger size on our group, ?time permitting.?

The IOS web interface allows pinch to zoom. The IOS ?App ? does not appear to allow that function. So many apple users, myself included, do not try to use the app. ?I use the save to home screen function on IOS to save the main message page as my faux app icon. That is my main access point for ability to read the pages.

I checked a couple of my groups in dark mode.? The darker background colors help the text stand out better.? I noticed that sometimes the text is light and sometimes dark.? I think Mark could do some tweaking to get a better balance and readability.

Go to the hashtags page and edit the hashtag properties. You can change the colour there.

Search the activity log using the member's email address. I suspect you'll find two adjacent entries under the following headings:
? ?Spam - system removed member due to spam report
? ?Membership - member resumed group membership

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I found just the following entries:
XY (e-mail address) left via web?
XY (e-mail address) resumed membership via web

No mention of spam and sure enough we didn't receive any notification stating that the member had been removed for marking a message as spam. I contacted him to ask what had happened, but I'm still waiting for a reply.

If he truly left on his own accord, he shouldn't be able to. Could he have saved a previous invitation?
I see from his member page that he joined the group in 2013, in Yahoo times, via direct add. Does this mean that he is entitled to come and go as he pleases bypassing the moderators?

Frankly, the activity log can be difficult to navigate...
I agree ??

What happened to "preview"? I used it before sending every posting.

Thank you. I learned something, that my practice of deleting redundant pictures in Emailed Photos is a better idea than I thought.

Sudden, unwelcome change of font

While I was navigating my group to get the hang of the new UI, a banner suddenly popped up saying:
"The website has been updated. Please click the button to reload the page."
I clicked the button and, woe is me!, the font changed to a light gray, very thin font, which I find extremely difficult to read.
I checked my account preferences to see if I could choose a different/better font or go back to the previous one, but I couldn't find any way to do that.

What has happened to the old font?? I don't think the present one is the best choice, especially for people with visual impairment.

The first Reverify message went out in mid-January! January 16th and had three other messages from Groups.io
This is apart from attempts that owners made to alert them.

I assume it is still the case - if they logged into a group to read the messages online, that would reverify them.?

The final reason is to get them to do something about their status. While repeated notifications from groups.io have failed to get their attention, maybe removing them from the group will finally get them off their chair. Probably not, but it might.

I humbly disagree. RI members do count against your membership quota. If you're a Basic group nearing 100 members, these represent subscriptions that could be vacated for the benefit of others. Conversely, if you're a paid group, you're paying extra money to keep them on.

Another reason is simply because you find them bothersome. They can't post, aren't receiving messages, and cannot even read messages online. If they cared, they would have complained a long time ago. Why continue to cling to a handful of subscribers who clearly don't give a hoot?

The final reason is to get them to do something about their status. While repeated notifications from groups.io have failed to get their attention, maybe removing them from the group will finally get them off their chair. Probably not, but it might.

You're the group owner, and are fully empowered to send these subscribers to the bit-bucket. While I just gave you three good reasons to do so, I'm struggling to think of any good reason not to.

Sorry to maybe be beating the proverbial dead horse, so to speak, but has Mark finally decided when the stagnant RI Members will be deleted/removed?

Not yet, as far as I know.? He seems to keep putting it off, while dealing with other more pressing problems.? I am confident that he will get around to it eventually.

With my group, for instance, there are still a significant number of flagged members (close to 200) who have not made any effort to revalidate their member accounts. Now, after having sent 'round three or four emails to the group alerting what should be done, only a very few of these flagged members have done anything and were reverifed.

Chances are, the ones who have not done anything, are not really there, or not listening and don't care.? If it is an older group with members who joined years ago, many of them might not be there anymore, have moved on and stopped monitoring your group or their old email accounts.

Now I'm wondering whether it might be time to just go ahead and remove those stagnant RI members. ...

In my opinion, you should not do that.? You don't need to do that; they don't hurt to leave them alone.

When Mark Fletcher thinks it is important to remove them, he can do that, on HIS schedule.? There is no need for any group owner or moderator to do that.

At this point I'm very tempted to begin removing them. If this is a suitable option fine, but is there some other way of doing this which might be better? Or should I just wait 'til Mark Fletcher gets around to deleting them?

Again, it is only my opinion, but I feel you should leave them alone and let Mark deal with them, which he will eventually.? They do not affect your group in any way.? Don't remove them because it will not help your group to do that.

My group has a few "RI" members whom I recognize so they are occasionally active in the group, and it would be a loss to lose them, but I can't force them to reverify themselves if they aren't listening this month.? Eventually, when they are dropped, they may come to realize that they should do something, and then they will simply rejoin.

The only reason for removing them is that it makes some of the places such as Spamhaus happier to know that Groups.io (i.e., Mark Fletcher) has a process for removing accounts that are stale and truly should not be there.? If you remove them, it won't help, not one bit.? If Mark removes them, he can tell Spamhaus what he did to clean up the deadwood.

Yes. If you open a single member record and pull down the Membership menu, you'll find an "+owner messages" entry. Select that for a listing of all such messages sent by that member.
I should also mention that any corresponding entry in your activity log will include a hotlink to the stored message. Select "Message - To +owner" from the log's pull-down menu to obtain a comprehensive listing.

Well, it probably is, but GMail is filtering it out as a dupe. Have someone else send you one before deciding that it doesn't work.

You should also see the message among the recent successful deliveries in your own Email Delivery History.

Is there some place I can log in as the owner and read messages that are sent to owner? ?

Yes. If you open a single member record and pull down the Membership menu, you'll find an "+owner messages" entry. Select that for a listing of all such messages sent by that member.

Is there somewhere else that lets you choose a different email address for the owner address besides the personal account of the owner?

Such messages are sent to the owner's subscribed [non-aliased] address and there is no provision to reroute them elsewhere.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
