Maybe I missed a memo or a changelog, but I've started (as a gmail) user getting copies back of messages I send to the group.

The pattern seems to be groups that I am an admin of. It does not happen, for example, with this group.

If this is intentional, is there a way to turn it off?

Best,

Glenn

If he is a real person that you are sure you want in the group, you might suggest that he obtain another email address to subscribe to the group.

I'm not sure I fully understand your issue here.? When I, as an Owner, upload a file and check the Notify box, then other Moderators receive a Moderator Notification to say that I have done that. I don't receive a Moderator Notification myself as it was my action. The 'From' display name for this notification is 'Group Notification' and there can be a delay of several minutes for this notification to arrive due to the effects of the notification combiner.

Uploading a file and checking the Notify box will generate a message in your group archive with a #file-notice hashtag and this will be emailed to your members (assuming you haven't set the No Email property on the hashtag) based upon their subscription settings.? This also shows the 'From' display name as 'Group Notification'.? You can see if the message has been sent to an individual member by checking their Email Delivery History via their membership record.

Uploading a file and not checking the notify box still results in Moderator Notifications being sent (as described above) but does not create a message in the archive with a #file-notice hashtag.

All Moderator Notifications and #file-notice messages to members contain a link to the file that was uploaded.

This is all working as it should as far as I can see. If you have information that suggests otherwise, please report back here.

Andy

Based on what you said,

but when I tried to open the daily digest, what would come up was only the landing page of my group and on that page it said I needed to "sign up" be participate in the group. So I did, and that's when I started receiving two notifications of the daily digest, posted to my email account at exactly the same time.

when one clicks on a message link (at least like the View/Reply Online footer link) to a (non-public message archive) group but they are not logged-in locally with their browser, they get the login page in the browser, not a sign-up page so I'm not quite sure what you mean by sign up, what was the exact page you saw or what did it contain?? If it was your group home page there should had been two buttons in the page, Join this group or Login if you're already a member.? Did you click on one of them? I know in this case that if one clicks on the Join this group button and tries to join and use the same email address they'll get a That email address is already a member error, so we're missing some key piece of info, please give us more detailed info on what exactly transpired. Did the email address autofill by any chance?

One possibility, it could be you actually used an alias email address of your main one when you did it on the phone, that could explain the duplicity as the alias would auto-forward/place emails sent to it to the main account's inbox.

Do this to make sure this didn't happen:

1. In the desktop, open a web browser and go to .? You should be already logged-in so click on your Account (upper-right of the blue nav bar) and note the email address shown. (While at it, might as well check to see if there are any groups.io email address aliases defined, there could be a possibility there's a bug somewhere so check this just in case.)

2. Repeat the same in the phone, do both addresses shown match?? Any aliases defined?

Cheers,
Christos

That just means that you need to log in from that device.? Each device has a separate login cookie.? Sounds like you were already reading the digest on either/both, just not logged in on the phone.

Duane had some good advice about some setting you have on your device like forwarding. Everyone knows, I am sure, that one can use the phone to check email just like one can use a laptop. So, I would get the daily digest email notification on my phone, but when I tried to open the daily digest, what would come up was only the landing page of my group and on that page it said I needed to "sign up" be participate in the group. So I did, and that's when I started receiving two notifications of the daily digest, posted to my email accunt at exactly yhe same time.
?
I did not intentionally 'forward' anything.

But I have a question - what do you mean "sign up for the group"? See above

I use one (and the same) account for my laptop, my iPhone, my iPad. That's what I wanted to do, albeit for an Android.
Yes, I had to use Email Me A Link to Log In on each device and browser (if I didn't have a password set), but I didn't have to sign up on that device.

Perhaps I am mistaking your meaning. To me, though, it looks like you created another account and the new account is forwarding email to your laptop. Perhaps. If so, how do I undo it and still be able to read my group's daily digest on my handhelp computer, aka smartphone? I am sure I could delete the second account, but would I not be back where I started?

Two notification of same digest

This is a small issue I am sure. I have long used my laptop to view the daily digest of my group, but decided to make the same available on my smartphone (Android). In order to do tat I had to sign up for the groupl with my phone and now I am getting two notification?on my laptop of the daily digest.? Image here. The #3178 comes from my long-standing laptop, the #12 from the smartphone.

Any way to deleet that?

Do you know this person? Has he actively participated in the group in the past?

If the answer is "no" and "no," his email address may be one of the very spam traps the reverification process is trying to purge.

So I removed him as a member, then tried to add him back again, but then received a message that he could not be added because he is an "inactive member."??

How can I get this member back into our group?
I'm not sure that you can, although he could, by contacting system support directly. See?/static/reverifyfaq, especially the final paragraph.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

To answer this, I first have to ask some questions. [Obligatory Disclaimer: I am self-taught and by no means a professional web designer.]

It sounds like you have an Enterprise group. Do you have ftp access to your own root? Or maybe you can edit files via a system dashboard (Plesk or some such)?

If so, you should be able to edit the .htaccess file and put in a 301 redirect yourself. Something like this ought to work:

??Redirect 301?https://lists.yoctoproject.org/??https://lists.yoctoproject.org/g/main

If you can't get to that file for editing then support will have to get involved and perhaps do it for you.

Be advised that this also means no one will ever be able to browse to the default.html page (if such a thing exists). If there's some way to make a redirect happen "just the first time," I'm not familiar with it.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Because this is a collaborative group,
where people give up their free time
to help others in the way they think
is best and, as long as they follow
rules of good coexistence, each person
has the freedom to respond as they
see fit.

Create too many rules and take away

I find on this group, GMF, there is a tendency at times to avoid answering questions directly. People ask a question and
instead of an answer, they're told where to look to find one. In this instance, why not just answer, 'Two more weeks
aprox. March 18th,' Then add that Mark Fletcher addressed this question on Beta recently. That seems pretty simple.

Give them a source to find more information, okay, but why not answer their question?

Is there a way to set the default landing page for my domain?

In an incognito window??redirects to?.
Logged in ?redirects to??or the last page I was on if it was a top level section like Feed or Calendar.

Is there a way to make the base domain always redirect to ? We have important info there that existing members have trouble locating.

Re: When does the 'purge' begain for RI bannered members?

It was suggested to me that it was more useful to put in a link to the right section of the Help rather than copy and paste or reword it.

For one thing, the Help documents change from time to time when Mark makes changes to Groups.io. The message archive for this group is retrievable online and the link is more effective.

And no misspeaking - usually the Help is clear!

Also it does alert the person asking that for future needs, there is an online Help document that can be searched right now for the answer rather than relying on a moderator to approve the post and then wait for the best answers to flow in.

I¡¯m wondering about what/why the ¡°assisting¡±? There¡¯s nothing Mods beed to do and there's really no benefit to doing anything.

Certainly if a Mod wanted to, they could have removed RI members before now ¡ª but what¡¯s the difference anyway to letting nature take it¡¯s course?
