I have just posted a message to one of my groups with a picture, when I double-click on the pic, it brings it up in Preview. If you right-click or control-click you get a menu one of which is ¡°Open with¡± there a number of options in there, one of which shoud suffice??

It would be useful to see the message ¡ so I can test what you are trying to do.

Wouldn't the member be brought to the login screen if that were the case? That's what happens to me if I click on a link when not logged in.

Re: MAC questions

Frances, I make sure that any files in our files folders are uploaded as pdf files as I know many of our members don't have the ability to open docx files. As the devices are new to this member, I have a feeling she has some default settings in her devices that are causing the problems she is experiencing.

Photo attachments can be deleted directly from the Emailed Photos folder. Otherwise, you remove an attachment by editing the corresponding message.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/7120?for details.

Here's a reply to this part of your member's query:

If the member's computer is up-to-date, then the Groups.io website is too!

How do you post files on your site? As pdf's or as .docx?

If the files are PDF's, they open in the window. If they are .docx's, they are downloaded to the Downloads folder.

On an iPad, PDF's open in the same window and .docx prompt "would you like to download it".

MAC questions

One of my group members is having some problems with her membership using her IMAC computer and new Ipad. As I use a PC, I am not able to diagnose what is going on with her issues. Can someone here who uses those devices answer her questions?

This is what she is asking:
"Is the site up to date with the latest ?Apple updates? ?I can look at photos, I can bring up the files, but cannot print the patterns on the computer. ?I can no longer bring up the files on the iPad, nor can I enlarge the photos so I can see the details everyone talks about. ?So very frustrating! ?That is on iMac and iPad both. There are a couple of ways, one manual, one automatic (at the bottom of that page.)

Re: Comcast problems. Is there a **good** Comcast tech support communication method

I'll give it a try.? Thanks.

In general I've found that the standard communication methods end up talking to a person who has a script ("you must go through this ten step router reset procedure" - that doesn't do anything about the problem) and knows nothing about complicated issues.?

How about not allowing attachments in the first place in your group settings?

If enough Comcast subscribers called tech support and often enough to bother
them about this, it might get fed upstream and might be fixed.

Re: Comcast problems. Is there a **good** Comcast tech support communication method

Unfortunately, I don't think you can use "good" and "comcast" in the same sentence. I administer a listserv?environment (real L-Soft listserv) and I have constant problems with perfectly legitimate posts being blocked by Comcast as spam, and no way to communicate with anyone about it. I advise my comcast subscribers to use a different email provider, at least for the list messages.

Re: No Email Formatting vsible

Thanks Frances,
?
I thought I had done this. But checked and 'strip all different fonts and colours from html emails' was ticked!? Don't know if that happened with an update, but all sorted now. FYI anyone needing to do this, it has to be done for each group you have, it's not a global setting.

Check Admin, Settings. Message Formatting:

Force HTML Emails
Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option.
Normalize HTML Emails
Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails.
Plain Text Only
Strip out HTML messages.

Lew -- I don't know of anyone who has done this. Although it could work, individual subscribers do have the option of leaving at any time, changing their email address or Display Name, etc. I think it could prove difficult to keep track of.

Is there a way to setup alerts when the membership is about expire??
I'm not aware of any way to set up a subscription expiration date, much less alert you of it.

No Email Formatting vsible

Hi,

When I and group members apply formatting to an email (italics, bold etc), it does not appear when the email is received via Groups.io. I'm sure I set this somewhere (forget where it was) to allow this in messages. But it's not happening

How can I enable this?

Thanks,
Lynda
