You can limit the size of photos but I don't see any setting for files
other than disallowing them, allowing them, and two choices allowing
only moderators to upload.

You could make a policy for members to upload their own files so they
(not you) would have to deal with the file size, and then I believe it
wouldn't be in an email to the group. Or maybe set it so only mods can
upload them. If you do that and you're a moderator, you still might
have to deal with a large file even if only mods can upload them.

If you set it so members can't upload files, let them know to get in
touch with you and have them place their file in a Dropbox (or
similar) account and send you an invitation to download the file. Then
you can upload it. This may not be a frequent request, so it might be
the way to do it.

I use Agenda view on our a website in order to display as many upcoming events as possible in overlapping months. How many weeks/months that are displayed depends on how many events are packed into a week. The Agenda display allows endless scrolling in devices instead of having to click through each month.?

First get your GIO calendar set up into Google Calendar. Next choose "Agenda" as your display of choice. Then go into settings and configure your display size if desired and get your embed code.?

The embed code will default to an Agenda display listing on your website. It also allows visiting viewers to click through the tabs to display in monthly and weekly views if they so prefer. In monthly views the visitor can view and print up to 6 months.?

Re: Question re Guidelines message displayed in Sidebar #howto

AND YET ONE MORE FOLLOWUP (4) . . . .

Went back and re-edited original message text (which had suddenly reverted) in Group Messages and re-saved it and re-refreshed page.

When I re-checked Guidelines message text via 'Guidelines' in Left-hand sidebar it had updated and was correct.

Hoping that the correction will 'hold' this time round!

I have done a search(s) for attachments at GMF. Lots of good info but nothing pertaining to
group limits for attachments.

Ok,

Re: Displaying a group's calendar in a website #calendar #website

Though this is useful it is not exactly what I was looking for. I have created events in the calendar in my groups.io group. I want a way to display them in a website. For example if the current month is December 2019, I want to display December 2019 and January 2020 events from the calendar onto my site. How can I achieve this.

Re: Question re Guidelines message displayed in Sidebar #howto

FOLLOWUP 3 . . . .

Very strange. I just now checked my Posting Guidelines (via the Guidelines button in the Left-hand sidebar) and the updated text has now reverted back to the text with the typo in it. I have no idea why this might happen but I'm now at a complete loss for how to resolve this.

Perhaps this is being caused by a glitch of some sort.

I am not seeing in the interface when I'm in the group where to access member management.

BTW, you can also moderate a specific member if you prefer.

Re: How to use my PG downloaded archives and docs in migrating a group from yahoogroups to groups.io? #migration

Alex,

Also, one other option exists.? The Yahoo download is in MBOX format.? There are several MBOX reader, viewers and robust editors on the web.?

Depending on how your YG was setup over there, the MBOX could have spam, Yahoo & AOL ads and even pron postings to adult websites.? Thus, the editor is needed before migration those messages over here.? Out of my 4 groups, 2 have the wild side junk in them from the mentioned events.?

Again, there are options.? Just figure out the best path that meets your groups needs getting over to GroupsIO.? You are in the driver's seat as the transfer window from YG to GIO is now past.

Re: How to use my PG downloaded archives and docs in migrating a group from yahoogroups to groups.io? #migration

Alex,

PGO software doesn't have an uploader ... yet ... to Groups IO.? It's almost out of BETA testing.

As Bruce mentioned, you can give Lena's script a try.?

At the moment, I have both the PGO downloaded messages and the Yahoo packet Download file for the group.??

Once the PGO-2-GIO is perfected, I'll see what the next step is to move the messages.

I've made a sub-group and plan to load them there.? It would be a read only archive for all the members of the main group.

Our group is up and running, only using the latest created messages on GroupsIO right now.?? In our FILES section here for our group, I took the PGO messages and saved them to these formats: CSV, Excel, HTML and OpenOFFICE OSD.? This way, folks can just download them for their use.?

Depending on how you group functions, you have options on GroupsIO to move the messages to fit the needs of your group.

PGO-2-GIO is functional. There are a few tweaks needed. For example, Yahoo had a habit (Shal's nemesis) of replacing apostrophes in attachment filenames with the symbolic ' and the author is working out the best way to handle this. Expect an announcement soon.

I am one of a few beta testers of the P2G software. It is in
development. It has been able to upload messages for at least one
tester, and I was able to do some also, but I encountered a glitch in
the process.

I am not at liberty to tell more, but this developer doesn't want to
release software that will not work well for everyone and that has
glitches in it. A new version is being readied for testing.

For now, just be glad that you have the messages, files, and photos
archived by PGO. That was the time-sensitive part. Once the program is
past the testing stage, you would use P2G (actually PGO-2-GIO) to do
your uploading, slowly over time, to either a new group before you
have members, or to an "announce only" subgroup where the messages
will be stored and can be searched. (You wouldn't want members to get
50,000 messages in their inbox all at once.)

When will it be ready? Not soon enough for many, of course, but it's
making real progress.

Donald

You need to delete from Message display, not Topic display if you just want to delete or edit one message.
A suggestion - test it by editing rather than deleting. Then delete after you feel comfortable.
See -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Editing-a-message-or-topic

BTW, the wiki has a search box at the top right corner. Useful way to track down articles.

Go to Admin, Members (not Directory).
Find the member, click on the name or email address to open the record.
You can then remove or ban the member - bottom of the page.
I am not sure about the difference between banned and removed. However I assume that removed is not punitive and the member can re-apply with the same email address. If someone is banned, the owner will have to take steps to allow the person to re-apply with that email address.

You can set up a notice to be sent automatically to the removed or banned member.

Apologies if this is something that's been asked earlier or I missed finding it in an appropriate FAQ.

My excuse for having such basic questions is that this group has been since migrated to groups.io a very very low activity, so I've spent almost no time managing it or living in the group.io group owner interface.

Thanks for any help.

How to use my PG downloaded archives and docs in migrating a group from yahoogroups to groups.io? #migration

Hi all.
The bad news is that I missed the window for doing a fully automated migration to groups.io .

The good news is that just before yahoo removed the files and twenty years of archived messages I successfully downloaded them into PG offline. And I also managed to download all the members' email addresses.
(I also, just for a "plan-B" did initiate Yahoo's own download of the group content... Though I haven't yet been notified my downloaded zip is available.)

So I'm virtually certainly going to recreate the group at group.io.
But currently am?clueless as to how I would import the group's saved message archive and/or files into the newly created group.io.

Can anyone give me the short* version of the "how you do this" and/or point me to a resource/link that gives the detail?

At minimum...... Could someone tell me if what I hope to do (set up the?new group at groups.io and import the message archive and possibly files) ..... either from the PG downloader or the zip file that hopefully will materialize from yahoo someday ...is possible? Is practical?

Alex
* Long version would also be appreciated. ;-)

Re: paid, transferred the group, crickets

I've reviewed all 4 of your posts and all the suggestions you were given.
In each case you say you're having trouble but offer absolutely? no detail information that would help others in diagnosis.
Your first post in each topic is your last.
No one knows if they helped you or not.? Instead of feedback they just get another ephemeral complaint with no detail.

Have they helped you or not?
Have you answered any of their questions? No.
It's like throwing ideas down a black hole.

If you're not providing feedback and responding to others' request for more information they/we can't help you and eventually, no one will be willing to even try.
