You CANNOT get an extension from GIO.? This is only to allow you to download the information yourself directly from YG.

Re: Message from Yahoo today #yahoo

The extension is from YAHOO, not Groups.io. If you have already downloaded all the files you want from your Yahoo groups this extension doesn't do anything for you. It is only of use to people who haven't gotten the data from their Yahoo groups yet. It gives them an extra month to do so.

If you have your files, etc. and want to move them to a Groups.io group you have to do it yourself. You can find info on the process at

They can send an email to?Subscribe: main+subscribe@[GROUPNAME].groups.io
(Substitute your group name.)

I guess you know about direct add, invites, etc.

Links to options in the wiki.
See especially -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

Is your group restricted? If it isn't, they can just click on Join This Group on your group homepage.?

If you were wondering about using the group-owner e-mail address, perhaps your group is restricted and you want to vet your applicants.
If yes, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Screening-New-Members-Using-the-Pending-Subscription-Notice

Yes.

If this was done intentionally, does anyone know why?
After discussions on the beta group a few years ago, that's the way Mark designed it.

Your browser may be reading an older guidelines document from its cache.?Try a hard refresh (ctrl-F5) while viewing the guideline and see if that fixes it.?

I just tried in my test group and it was fine.
Just check that the Group Guidelines notice is ticked as active.
Otherwise, I don't know.
Please report back.

Question re Guidelines message displayed in Sidebar #howto

Just noticed a typo in the active Guidelines message on our group. Went to Admin > Settings and corrected it then saved. But when I clicked on Guidelines in the Left-hand Sidebar again the typo was still there, even though it shows as corrected in the text under Settings > Member Notices.

I then tried changing its message type from 'Group Guidelines' to 'Notice to Member', saving it, then refreshing the page and after that changing the message type back to 'Group Guidelines'. But even so, the text of the message that displayed when I clicked on the Left-hand sidebar has remained the same as before, with the typo still in place even though it has been corrected and saved in Member Notices.

So could someone please explain to me how to correct the text of the message that displays when 'Guidelines' is selected from the Left-hand sidebar.

What am I overlooking with this? Hopefully it is something simple.

John -- I'm not aware of any serious consequences to message delivery or readability with respect to any of these settings.

Most modern email clients send messages as html, but can be configured not to. So messages are going to come into your group in both html and plain text, depending on what the sender sent. If you don't check any of the checkboxes, they are forwarded without change, except to add a corresponding footer. Be advised that the plain text footers look different from the html footer, so there is some benefit to checking one of the boxes, to provide your group's emails with a consistent "look."

If you check Force Html, every message going out will be in html, and will have the html-styled footer. The plain-text digest will be disabled.

If you check Plain Text Only, all html will be stripped from messages before they are sent.* I don't know for sure if this disables the Full Featured Digest subscription option.

I also don't know what happens if you check both, as the two seem mutually incompatible.

If Normalize HTML Emails is checked, it strips font styling (e.g.: size and color) from any outgoing html emails, leaving the rest alone.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

*Although plain text messages are indeed sent as plain text, many email clients will auto-detect any string that appears to be a URL and "linkify" it. This can be a source of some confusion for people who believe they can disable hyperlinks by using plain text formatting and only to end up seeing them in the messages anyway.

So it depends on which you prefer. I prefer the full featured.

The description in subscription settings doesn't tell you about replying from email. Is this worth asking for on Beta at some point?

I understand that screen readers may prefer plain text.

I don't have such trouble

Well, there has been some discussion in the past about the necessity to go to the group homepage to reply to a message. This is what happens with plain text digest.
With full featured, there is the opportunity to reply through email, if you prefer.

Plain text digest footers:

** opens your email

So it depends on which you prefer. I prefer the full featured.

(Actually my favourite subscription setting for groups where I am not actively involved is Advanced Preferences where I get just the first message in any thread, and then choose to follow if I want. )
