I guess you read the descriptions in settings.
Force HTML Emails
Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option.
?
Normalize HTML Emails
Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails.

I found a comment from Mark about force HTML emails:

Bruce,

Yes, I'm aware of that doc, I even used parts of it in our groups' help wikis.? But it still doesn't answer the two questions I posted, you may want to reread my message more carefully.?

John -- I'm not aware of any serious consequences to message delivery or readability with respect to any of these settings.

Most modern email clients send messages as html, but can be configured not to. So messages are going to come into your group in both html and plain text, depending on what the sender sent. If you don't check any of the checkboxes, they are forwarded without change, except to add a corresponding footer. Be advised that the plain text footers look different from the html footer, so there is some benefit to checking one of the boxes, to provide your group's emails with a consistent "look."

If you check Force Html, every message going out will be in html, and will have the html-styled footer. The plain-text digest will be disabled.

If you check Plain Text Only, all html will be stripped from messages before they are sent.* I don't know for sure if this disables the Full Featured Digest subscription option.

I also don't know what happens if you check both, as the two seem mutually incompatible.

If Normalize HTML Emails is checked, it strips font styling (e.g.: size and color) from any outgoing html emails, leaving the rest alone.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

*Although plain text messages are indeed sent as plain text, many email clients will auto-detect any string that appears to be a URL and "linkify" it. This can be a source of some confusion for people who believe they can disable hyperlinks by using plain text formatting and only to end up seeing them in the messages anyway.

So it depends on which you prefer. I prefer the full featured.

The description in subscription settings doesn't tell you about replying from email. Is this worth asking for on Beta at some point?

I understand that screen readers may prefer plain text.

I don't have such trouble

Well, there has been some discussion in the past about the necessity to go to the group homepage to reply to a message. This is what happens with plain text digest.
With full featured, there is the opportunity to reply through email, if you prefer.

Plain text digest footers:

View This Message: https://TestFrances.groups.io/g/main/message/590

** opens your email

So it depends on which you prefer. I prefer the full featured.

(Actually my favourite subscription setting for groups where I am not actively involved is Advanced Preferences where I get just the first message in any thread, and then choose to follow if I want. )

The only options are most recent last or first, by creation date.? There's no way to use the edited date as part of the sort.? You could suggest this on the , the official suggestion box for the site.? Similar options have been asked for before, but we have no way of knowing if they're under consideration.

Hi Becky,?
I have an AOL account that I use for testing. Instead of using the AOL app on iOS, I added my AOL account into the iOS mail program found under Settings. You might want to give that a go.?

No.

What happens if I don't?
Email addresses of non-members are only inserted into beginning of message body.

2. I got an error when I tried to use the map.txt file. I tried with both a
comma and a space.
Please compress the map.txt file with `zip` and email the .zip file to me.
May be an empty line in the file. I uploaded version 6 with the only change: empty lines in map.txt are ignored.

You provide very little information so we can only guess what your
problem might be.

My guess is that you transferred a group and the group members as a
whole are resistant to change. Or that you transferred a fairly
inactive group.

Did you discuss the move ahead of time in the old group before making
the move?

I moved a group of over 4,000 members but it was a low activity group
by the time I moved it. It's purpose has run its course. It was about
growing hops and it was formed during a world-wide hop shortage after
a large international hop storehouse burned down. Hop prices went
through the roof, and homebrewers (of beer) wanted to grow their own
hops to save money, and others wanted to get into the hop farming
business to make money.

The shortage was back around 2007, I think, and back then we had over
100 posts daily. Now we have less than 5 in a month. The shortage is
over, and prices have dropped, partly due to many new entries into the
supply chain.

If you moved a group that wasn't active, I wouldn't expect moving to
groups.io would be a magic solution to inactivity. I would actually
expect less activity after moving since some members may not know how
the new platform works, and others won't appreciate being moved to the
new group.

If this doesn't address your question, we need more information.

Donald

Re: paid, transferred the group, crickets

I did my group of? 500 members from yahoo groups and it worked quite slick. Everyone is thinking I'm a Guru,? and I really haven't done that much.??

It was a small learning curve,? but I have it up and running after just a couple of days.

To help,? I need more details - where did you come from,? how big was the group,? what exactly are your problems - maybe i can help.??

Calling it "a racket" is a bit strong. :(

That aside, you haven't actually told us what is happening (or not happening as the case may be) so it is impossible to suggest things to try.

Some more detail please.
