Well, there is the manual method :-)

Press the PageDown button every now and then, for about 10 minutes, until all members have loaded, then press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, wait about 20 seconds for it to populate the clipboard, then paste into a text editor.

I just did this for a group with 5000 members. Vivaldi browser.

Re: Welcome Message Not Sent After Transition

Robert,

I sent out my Welcome Notice as a special notice because none of my test accounts nor any member I spoke to received it automatically. Spam folders were indeed checked and I was thorough in checking

New members that have joined after our transition have been receiving the automatic Welcome Notice.

This was a very minor blip in our otherwise super smooth Easy Transfer process. I'm grateful to all the support here at Groups.io and delighted to be here.?

Please double-check the entry you have in the "Notice Type" box. Simply naming it "Welcome" does not make it a Welcome Notice.

Also, you have to click in the provided checkbox to make it Active. I'm attaching a screenshot to show you what I mean.

Over the past couple of days, several of my groups have been transferred from Yahoo! Groups. I had active Welcome notices set for all of them. My experience is the same as Jesse's: the "You have been added" message from The Groups.io Team is sent, but the Welcome notice from the Moderators is not. I have a couple of Member (non-Owner/Moderator) accounts of my own that were added to each of these groups as a result of the transfer, and neither of them received the Welcome notice. I've checked the spam folders for both of them, and the Email Delivery History shows no activity. I'm already in the process of copying-and-pasting the customized Welcome notices into messages for each group.

Lisa -- That is my understanding. Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

Then, later, when I elect to proceed with using groups.io, how will I "activate" the group?
Once a group is set up -- and already reviewed against the groups.io Terms of Service -- it is already "active."?

Once you complete the Easy Group Transfer and receive the Owner's completion notice, you can lock the group...you'll find a baby-blue button for that at the very bottom of the Settings page. This will keep anyone (including you) from accidentally posting something to the group and tipping people off until such time that you've finished up whatever it is you need to do over that "month or so" time period.

I do NOT recommend locking the group until the transfer is done. It's possible that the transfer agent will be able to complete the transfer anyway, but it could also mess things up royally.

?Is there a way to send the Welcome Notice and the "you've been added" notification at that later time? ?Or is there another way?
Yes and no.

You can?manually send any existing Member Notice by selecting a collection of people from your Member List (using the checkboxes) and choosing "Send Message" from the Actions pull-down menu at the bottom of the page. I'm pretty sure this works even if those people have "No Email" selected for message delivery.

You cannot, however, manually send the "you've been added" notification with the opt-out link. That notification is a system-generated, one-time deal.

Is there an option for me to set up the transfer with the members and the archive content, and then just hold off on the step to Welcome/Notify the members, i.e. freeze the process after everything is exported form YahooGroups, but before the members are alerted? ?
I believe I have already answered this...if there's something different here I'm not picking up on it.

One more question: Before welcoming/notifying new members, can I edit/update some of their email addresses? ?As I went to transfer from YG to GoogleGroups, I came to know some people have new email addresses....
Since you have a Premium group, you can do this...but I wouldn't recommend it. For one thing, it might generate a notification...and you've already said that you don't want them to be notified. It will also change their email address in any other group in groups.io that they may already be subscribed to, and you may end up with some very unhappy campers because of it.

It's my experience that helping people who haven't asked for my help is not very helpful. :-)

If it were me, I'd disable the No Email option on the GIO (anyone with that setting will be changed to Special Notice.)? Then when I was ready, I'd send a Special Notice email to let everyone know.? You could include any additional information you want.

No.

It might be easier for them to change their email address after they get to the group.? I believe you can change their email address for them on paid groups though.

You can just send them the link to the group.? Everyone that was transferred will already have a GIO account.? You may want to include a link to /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-in-and-How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password

Glad you were able to get it to work.

First thing that was different is that as part of the credit card info, it also wanted my zip code. It accepted all this and never asked for my name or address! It had only an email address.
I think groups.io uses Stripe to collect payments. Not sure how that all works, or what info might it have been gleaned from your existing account information.

Re: Staged #transfer

Bruce,?
? ?I appreciate your detailed response. ?I definitely do not want to loose ownership of our prior content...

All that said, you?can?transfer everybody and simply not notify them. You will have to create a custom Welcome Notice and make it?inactive. And there is a checkbox on the transfer edit page where you can?disable?the "you've been added" notification. If you do both -- and exercise some restraint and?don't post anything?to the group -- you can achieve the full transfer objective and simply spring a surprise on them later (in your case, in a "month or so").

If I elect to make the Welcome Notice?inactive, and also?disable the "you've been added" notification, the members will not have any inkling I made the switch, correct? ?I just don't want to confuse matters, now that we got them off YahooGroups.

You cannot have two transfers from the same Yahoo Group scheduled at the same time, so you'll have to set up the first one with the group content, wait for it to complete, delete it from your transfer list, and start over to bring over the members. Small wonder that virtually no one is exploring this option.

Is there an option for me to set up the transfer with the members and the archive content, and then just hold off on the step to Welcome/Notify the members, i.e. freeze the process after everything is exported form YahooGroups, but before the members are alerted? ?

One more question: Before welcoming/notifying new members, can I edit/update some of their email addresses? ?As I went to transfer from YG to GoogleGroups, I came to know some people have new email addresses....

With increasing appreciation for the issues involved, and for the time you and possibly others take to answer...

Thanks so much for the quick reply.? Maybe Groups.io will consider these 2 enhancements for the future then: 1. change the sort order and 2. add a search capability.

The Directory has no search function, and you can't even invert the sort order. I agree that either or both would be handy.

Note also that the group Directory is an index of member profiles, NOT a complete member list.?If a member has not created a profile, or has chosen not to share it, their "profile" will appear to Moderators and Owners only. If you want every member to see every other member, you have to make the Member List visible to them via settings (Admin->Settings->Privacy->Members Visible).

Re: How Can I Export 1300 Members List from YG #yahoo

Shal, isn't it standard procedure when something goes wrong in the transfer process, to delete the transfer and start over?? And no extra charge?? I thought I'd read that happening here with other groups.

Re: How to approve "pending" members imported from YG?

Thanks for your help, Duane.

Here's what happened (I think):

In the settings, I had specified that a notice NOT go to the Yahoogroup.

I didn't want to do that until I had prepared everything, learned how things work, etc.

So, almost 1000 are in but they don't know it.

QUESTION, PLEASE:? Do I just give them the link now, and they can participate?? Or must they register with groups.io?

?

thanks so much!??

Re: How Can I Export 1300 Members List from YG #yahoo

Dale,

I can fix the problem myself if I could just Export all 1300 members in a CSV from Yahoo.

In addition to the other suggestions, there's an add-in for the Chrome browser that will produce a CSV with the entire list.:

It is free, but takes a bit of technical effort to install and run.

Yes, all info entered, no extra stuff ;-)

I'm going to try with a different browser, where I don't have "NoScript" controls.

Enter the credit card number in sequence, no hyphens or spaces.

Did you also?enter your expiry date and CVC number at the far right? You have to provide that, too.

Also, how does this process know who I am (name, address) for the credit processing? Or will I be prompted.
You will be prompted for that once you get past the initial card info screen.

If it still doesn't work, you might have to send us a screenshot (with any credit info redacted, of course).
