Re: Locking/hiding group
y@es,
Is there some way of hiding a new Group from the public until afterNo. You can use the Visibility option to keep it out of the directory, but its home page would still be visible to anyone with the URL. You can make the messages private (members only), but not if you intend them to be public later. Re: October 28th
Dave,
If I read Yahoo's statement correctly, from next Monday nobody will beI wonder if that is the case. The help page uses the word "upload", but email postings are not usually referred to as "uploads". So I think there's a slim possibility that the Conversations section will continue to be updated by new postings, but that those postings can only be made by email. This means that for those groups currently in the transfer processIf indeed they stop updating Conversations on monday, then yes. Of course what actually happens on Monday with Yahoo is anybody'sExactly. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Fw: Data transfer - Yahoo to groups.io
Susan,
We want to start up with your service.Be aware that GMF is a user-to-user help group. There are no Groups.io employees reading this group. Without the owner/moderator of our Yahoo group we are unable to addYou are correct. As a moderator you would need the "Invite and add members" privilege to invite the transfer agent to your group. Also, you need the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" privilege to promote the transfer agent to moderator. But if the person who passed away was the only person with either the owner or moderator role, then I think you're stuck as far as using the Easy Group Transfer function is concerned. I'll concur with flonafrank's recommendation of PG Offline. I've used it to capture archives of the Messages, Files, Photos, and Links in the Yahoo Groups I own. Even the ones that I've already transferred to Groups.io (why not, disk space is cheap and messages don't take that much room). Once you have an archive of the content, even as a member, that preserves your options for the future. For example, it is possible for you to share a PG Offline archive among your board or even your members. They would need to download and run a copy of the program in order to read the archive, but they can do that using the Free trial, even once it has expired. Scroll down in the header looking for a field that begins with: X-Yahoo-Profile: The parameter on that line is the Yahoo Profile associated with that subscription, and is what you need to enter into Yahoo's Sign In page. Never mind that it prompts you for an Email Address, that's a change that is newer than Yahoo Group's code. Enter exactly the profile found in the header. Alas, that field isn't present in messages sent to the group -owner address, you need a message posted to the group. and my ability to SEE those groups, I cannot log into Yahoo.By "see" I assume you mean that you can access each group's home page, but without logging in can't access the members-only content or owner controls. If, despite the above, you can't sign in to the named profile don't despair. As long as you can receive emails from the group there's a way to transfer your subscription to a new Yahoo account. Ask again if you need details on that. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

It is up to you, the group owner, to actually check the status page and confirm that the invitation has been received. Re: Newly Transferred Members Accessing the Group's Site
Linda,
The e-mail from groups.io to the transferees provides a link to theCorrect. Or find their way by any other means to your group's Home page. Then scroll ... to the bottom of that site page and click the green "Log In If You'reCorrect. Then on the next page they can click on the "Send Log In Link" toClose. The email contains a link, not a password. They click on that link and it logs them into the site. At that point they can access the group's pages as a member. If they want, they can go to their Account page and set a password and/or various account preferences. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In Is that right? I've tried it out though with a spare account that wasI'm not sure why not. One relatively common problem is making a typo in one's own email address when requesting a Log In Link. But other than that it should get to you. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: you have reached the limit
I think he is talking about processing of invites. When a large number of invites are sent, after 20, there is a manual review and rest are released. This is mechanism to control spam. The delay can be couple of minutes or couple of hours. After submitting, stay patient. When rest are released, you will get a msg. Re: Is there a need for two owners?
Perhaps a new feature request (the request to be submitted to beta, probably in 2020) would be to promote a designated Moderator (or Moderators) to Owner, if no Owner has logged in 30 days (or some other defined time)...

Re: Obtaining your group data from Yahoo!Groups
It appears to contain files, pictures, messages, links and attachments sent by all members. Definitely worth a try to gather as much historical data as you can. I was the owner of the group. I also received files, links and messages from other groups in which I was a member, not an owner. It did not provide me with photos from these other groups.

Re: Invitations to subgroups
It appears to work. Several of the folks I invited were able to join the subgroup directly - and of course also got added to the parent group.
A couple for some reason didn't accept the invite and asked to join - but those came through as requests to join the parent group. After I approved those, I was able to direct-add them to the subgroup. Su |

Hi,
How long is "a bit" ? I'm searching for messages sent more than 1h1/2 from now, either with the search or by #hashtag without success : The search produced no results. It's a pretty weird behavior, you click on the #hashtag next to a message and it can't find the message itself ! |

In response to my noting that Yahoo advised that it would be 30 days before Dashboard download would take place, Don suggested:
Well, not exactly.? I used PGO to download the 14 Links of a small group, and got only the names of the links, not even the URLs.? I did it only to see what happened before I tried PGO for a much larger group.? Copy and paste will serve my needs far better! |
Re: Is there a uitlity/test/browse/practice group?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýChristos -
One risk to this is that members may set up an account with a totally different email address than their Y! account. Then, after the transfer has duplicated their account names from Yahoo, they may try to sign in with their new accounts?and be confused with having to sign on as their old Y! identities instead?and then change them. Those that are members of groups.io already will hopefully understand, but it might be simpler for the new folks without identities to use their original account and then modify it after the transfer.
?
Just something to ponder. I found that a lot of people never changed anything - they used the group from email and didn't use the web interface. All they had to do was change the address they sent messages to.?Making them use the web to 'familiarize' themselves might have simply pushed them away.

Obviously I don't want them to join our relocated groups yet, first because they are currently empty, plus I don't want folks getting in and start sending messages, uploading files, etc, not anyway until the transfer takes place and is done.

Re: Ripped off or not downunder
There was a message from Mark that he would refund to anyone not happy. No one is trying to rip off and Mark is working hard to keep up with the onslaught of requests to move groups from Y!G to GIO. It is taking time no matter where you are in the universe. Keep patient and the move will take place.

Re: Is there a need for two owners?
It is good insurance to have multiple owners so that in worst case scenario the list does not become an orphan.
Giving ownership rights is a critical decision and you need to have 100% trust in the person. I am a moderator
of a group from 1995 and we always had at least two owners. After moving the list to GIO we know have three
owners and your can trust your life with each. Every group should address this issue now and make sure multiple
backup owners are there to protect long term survivability of the group.

Re: ... dealing with Groups.io
Hi All, When I heard from Mark about a payment issue the reference number in his reply was numbered well over 10,000. I don't know how long this support reference number count has been running but its probable the number of messages to [email protected] has ticked up a bit in the last week and IO is triaging in some sort of order. My 10K+ numbered inquiry will require follow-up with Mark or his staff but I consider it lower priority than the other issues many are experiencing thanks to Verizon pulling the rug out from under our collective feet last week. I hope this turns out well for all of us, only time and (lots of hard work will tell :-) Charlie

Re: [email protected] isn't a member of my Yahoo group
Edward Borg
You know I wonder if there was a delay with the initial transfer request that I deleted.
Now I have [email protected] as a member and was able to make the agent a moderator; but now my transfer status page shows the following. We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite I think I should have waited cause there probably was a delay with the backlog. I hope the status will change so I can start my transfer. |
