Re: Only moderators can use hashtags?
On Sun, Oct 27, 2019 at 01:40 PM, I wrote:
Having set it out fairly comprehensively...but not comprehensively enough, because I did not check behaviour when posts are submitted by email. Woe is me. If a Special hashtag is applied to a message sent by email (by a member, not a moderator) then the email is bounced and the originator is provided with a link to a page where they can edit the message, i.e. remove the offending hashtag. However, to edit the message the member has to log in. If the Special hashtag also has Moderated checked then the message is accepted and presented for moderation as described previously. Now I think it's fairly comprehensive! Chris PS: Is this of sufficient value to include in the Hashtags section of the GMF wiki? |

Re: mods - owners
Seems to me it is very dangerous to have only one owner of any group.? If that person dies suddenly, there is nobody left who can do some important things.? I've seen that in Yahoo groups and also in groups.io.? At least it is possible to get help in groups.io which it never was in Yahoo.
I was a member of a yahoo group that lost its only owner and then no new members could be approved or taken off moderation.? In the end someone had to set up a completely new group.? When I wanted to transfer the Yahoo group belonging to our local astronomical society, I found that the corresponding group in groups.io existed because a member, who had since died, had created it just in case.? After contacting Mark and explaining the issue, he made me the owner so that we could move our group over. The pending death of Yahoo groups is evidently giving the owners of groups.io an enormous amount of work to do, so it isn't surprising that things are taking time.? This is reflected in the activity of this group.? I had 162 messages downloaded overnight last night.? I can't hope to read them all, but a huge Thank You to all those helpful people who answer all those questions.? This is the most helpful group I know. Peter _._,_ -- [ad removed by moderator] |

I¡¯ve attached a Digest, sent to list and to you directly, Bruce,Attachment worked ok. It looks like the formatting design is contained in the HTML code, to fit nicely under the Groups IO graphic, which will be a fixed size. It's not difficult to change this, but it's something Groups IO codewriters will have to do. A post in [email protected] would probably be more productive (or at least, more likely to be seen by the right people). ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAh, so you mean via Gmail or equivalent¡ªinteresting. I wonder if those environments deliberately override the table width. I know that most Android clients don¡¯t scroll tables left/right in email; our corporate communications insists on sending announcements as tables, even though I¡¯ve told them ¡°I¡¯m not going to scroll left-right to read this one my phone, and you¡¯re presumably trying to communicate, so stop it¡±. iPhone mail does reflow tables. Yes, you can edit a subject. Go to her post on the group website, and use the dropdown menu.

Bee
Just a quick query -
After S etting up ¡°Intro¡± as a hashtag on my group, I then sent my own intro with the subject ¡°Abi #Intro¡± explaining how my (mainly elderly) members could go to the online group and create their own intro. Almost immediately someone replied to the message with their own Intro - with the result her Intro is headed ¡°Abi #Intro¡± ? Is there a way I can edit the subject on her reply to read her name, whilst retaining my own name in the subject of my original post? ?Otherwise searching for members¡¯ introductions is going to become very confusing! Thanks!
