I know that most Android clients don¡¯t scroll tables left/right in email; our corporate communications insists on sending announcements as tables, even though I¡¯ve told them ¡°I¡¯m not going to scroll left-right to read this one my phone, and you¡¯re presumably trying to communicate, so stop it¡±. iPhone mail does reflow tables. So there¡¯s something interesting going on there. I¡¯m not an HTML maven (and have no desire to be one), so have not investigated further.
