Re: Narrow formatting in Digests?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve attached a Digest, sent to list and to you directly, Bruce, since I¡¯m not sure whether it¡¯ll survive list processing. (As I said, I¡¯m new to groups.io¡ªbut I have been using lists since the original LISTSERV on VM/SP in the early 80s, so I¡¯m used to the vagaries of whether attachments are allowed or not!)

?

I have not tried plaintext Digest, but I assume it wouldn¡¯t be formatted narrow, since it won¡¯t be formatted at all.

?

Oh, and here¡¯s a screenshot, shrunk for readability, showing how there¡¯s whitespace on either side, then the scrollbar on the right. Outlook 2013, Windows 7, 14.4¡± laptop screen.

Phil -- I'm not seeing this. Can you send a screenshot? Have you tried the Plain Text Digest option?

See my note to the list for an example. No setting in Outlook for this.

I also captured the raw MIME, extracted the MIME-part, and opened it in a browser: also displays as a narrow column. See attached.

How narrow are the columns?

Are you sure this isn't the way the sender wrote it? Your message in the
digest covered the full width of the screen; however my email client is
set to wrap at 72 characters when writing messages.

If your message also appeared to you in a narrow column, check if there
is a setting in your mail reader to alter that.

Re: Is there a need for two owners?

It is always safe to have multiple owners and moderators. Else the group may end up orphaned!

Only moderators can use hashtags?

I created a hashtag, and everyone is allowed to use it (the ¡°only moderators¡± box is not enabled).

When a non-moderator user tries to use that hashtag in a topic, the user gets a ¡°only moderators can use that hashtag¡± message. ?

Any clues?

They can even shut down the group!

Does that include Set Moderator Privileges? If yes then they can turn themselves into Owners.

This may not always be a good thing; be careful who you give it to because anyone with that box checked can remove the "real" owner.

Speaking of appreciation, I think you, Shal and Bruce deserve a? nod. I count nearly 2,000 messages in this group (and not including beta) since the start of the month and that's way, way over what previous months were like. Applause for handling the increased workload!

I found the number on the home page but it's interesting that on my
laptop on the members page it lists them in groups of 20, not 50.

Thanks. I might not have stumbled on it. It's a logical place for it
on the home page but you'd think there would also be a count on the
members list. Must have been overlooked.

That can be used for various reasons, but isn't needed for normal interaction.? If your group name is butterflies, they'd send email to butterflies@ group.io (without the space)? For replies, the address will automatically be filled in when they hit the Reply button in their email program.

Duane
Thanks Duane... I've been doing just that now for GMF and it works fine. If I use the email system (Thunderbird)'s reply button it sets up GMF in the to-field, which is great, even though the sender is actually showing the real email address of the sender (yours on gmail, e.g.) Also, the text of the original message is quoted in the reply.

When using the groups.io links for reply to group, e.g., there is no quoted original message. So I guess you can have it both ways depending on how one wants to respond. And of course there are the other options like Mute This Topic.

Thanks for responding.

Re: Fw: Data transfer - Yahoo to groups.io

This, and you could of course send out a message to all your Yahoo members telling them what¡¯s happening. You won¡¯t get those that are on special announcement only, but it¡¯s better than nothing I¡¯d think.

From the wiki
Setttings tab #3

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

3) Cover Photo tab:
You can add a photo for your group home page as well as a group icon for use on mobile devices. Upload a file containing the cover photo. It will be scaled to fit within 900 x 300 pixels - 3:1 ratio.

I don't see a member count on the members page under admin but I can
see how many pages of members there are. I can estimate to within 20
members by that but there must be an exact count somewhere, at least
for owners.
