I just cleaned up all bouncing members. So the number of members reduced from 1200 to 800.
But I think that a big part of the 800 remaining members (especially those with the status "no mail") are not active anymore, with expired e-mail addresses. I think just 300/400 members are still active anymore, maybe even less. But only from the members who are somtimes writing in the group, I'm sure their profile is up-to-date.


I hope bouncing welcome messages will result in more outdated (bouncing) member profiles, but I will wait for the results.

2. The member list of my group has a lot of members with the status "No mail". I'm afraid most of these members are not active anymore. Do these members receive a welcome message by joining Group.io? And if that message bounces, are these bouncing accounts automatically removed or do they automatically get the status "bouncing"?

Any bouncing members are NOT transferred.? If you allow the message to go out, everyone transferred will get it.? If you do allow it to be sent, it will contain a link for them to click on to be removed from the group.

Hi Bruce, I've sent a half dozen or more emails with very descriptive subject lines that Mark or any support? staff should notice despite the likely deluge? happening at [email protected] inbox?

I've cc'd my emails to [email protected] back to myself so it appears they are being sent. I miss the days when people used 'read receipts'.

Perhaps group names could have been shuffled but that would require contact with someone at groups.io which if it ever happens I will just ask then to manually process my third payment.

Re PayPal, as far as I know io only takes payments via their group upgrade page which still doesn't work for me.

You might want to contact Mark directly at support(at)groups(dot)io. With all the other stuff going on, he isn't closely monitoring posts sent there, but a subject line along the lines of "TRYING TO PAY YOU" would probably get his attention...if so, you should be able to negotiate a PayPal or some such transaction.

You could submit it to support, post it on the beta group as a suggested change, fill in the blanks for everyone, or add something to your Welcome message (and Guidelines?) saying that it's required.? I'd opt for the last one.? Since Notes and Exchange can be configured to avoid that problem, you could also contact the people in charge of them.

Would you please clarify how to fill in dummy names for those members who joined YG without including their names? In my YG, members whose name appears in the name field on the YG membership list are in the distinct minority. If I'm understanding this thread correctly, if their name field came over blank into .io their posts will bounce.

If Y! groups are down, I don't see it unreasonable to ask here. This is likely part of the problem Y! has created by announcing such a short shutdown window, and I suspect traffic on Y! is much heavier than anticipated with people grabbing content.

I think you just go to your Billing page and select the new term.? It would take effect when your previous one expires.

Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your thoughts. When I began paying to upgrade my three groups on 10/21 it was my intention to make them all paid premium groups to avoid any transfer hassles and enjoy the storage benefits offered by the then $110 yearly plan.

I began these upgrades in no particular order. Two went through fine and the third did not and still will not today even at $220. In hindsight since Marks retraction on free group limits one of my groups could have remained 'free' until the dust settled. However the one group that could have remained free is one that's aleady paid for.

The third group which must be paid due to storage limit is still in free status. When I try to upgrade it today even at $220 the transaction will not be accepted on two valid credit cards that paid for each of the two paid for groups.

Both of my banks see no reason for these sales have not to gone through. The consensus is whoever Mark at Groups.io uses for a payment processor which could be STRIPE.COM based upon domains I see flash by in my browser when trying to pay may like people to make multiple payments of the same amount ($110) to the same vendor ie: Groups.io in a short period of time as I tried on 10/21 10/22 and 10/23 and could have locked me out.

Sad part is if STRIPE.COM is where the problem lies they will only talk to the vendor Groups.IO and I cannot talk to Groups.io to ask them to? investigate or manually process my payment for the third group.

Meanwhile I have two of my three groups in the migration queue and the one group I've been begging to pay for since 10/21 languishes in free mode all the while getting further back in the migration queue since 10/21/19.

I've sent detailed email(s) to [email protected] since Monday 10/21 and tried to call leaving my phone number in both cases and no response as of 6PM EDT Wed 10/23, not even a 'bot' acknowledging receipt of my inquiry.

Mark, please take my money. I am sure it will help :-)

Rail Scan -- If I understand you correctly, you need two Premium Yearly groups and one Basic group, and you already have that. So all you need to do is rename them. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group?for more details.

You may have to change a letter or two in the group names, because names cannot be "reused" for awhile. You also might have to cancel and restart a couple of transfers that are already in progress, and maybe adjust some group settings. Nonetheless, this is what I would do if I were in your position.

We have a large group & a small subgroup both awaiting transfer - they are both at Stage 1 (awaiting export from Yahoo).? Should we stop one (if so, how?), and then how do we reinitiate the subgroup after the main group completes transfer?

Please see my follow up post in this thread as I am reading these out of order.

Under the threat of multiple deadlines spiraling out of our control on Monday 10/21 I began changing my three existing 'free' groups at IO to 'premium' at the then $110 rate.

The first two processed find and I received an 'invoice' from groups.io showing they were paid. When I got my third group having done these in no particular order, the payment for that group would not go through.

I tried multiple cards, call both banks who said there weren't seeing any problems on their end. I stayed up all night in to the morning trying to pay for my third group until 0900 PDT on 10/22 when the price for the third group that IO wouldn't let me pay for prior to 0900 PDT 'deadline' on 10/22 doubled to $220.

Out of desperation I tried paying for the third group again at the $220 price while on the phone with my bank and again the payment was declined, I repeated this process with the 2nd card and while on the phone with the other?? bank and inexplicably that payment was also declined.

Sad part is had it not been for the sudden announcement of draconian changes to Groups.io 'free' groups which was later recanted and the doubling of the cost for Premium groups I could have done things in a different order.

Saundra -- Members in Pending status are still members, they just haven't been approved yet. On that basis I am very skeptical that this approach will have the desired effect.

I really wish there was some way to keep the eager-beavers from requesting to join while you're waiting for the transfer to start; but frankly, I'm coming up empty. I don't think locking the group would be wise, either. Maybe someone else has an idea.
