Re: cannot add alias after deleting as subscriber
Peter,
I can't figure out how to log back in using the alternative email,Removing the address from your group's Members list doesn't delete the account associated with that address. The existence of that account is what blocks you from making it an alias address to another address' account. and also I never created a login (password) for that email in theYou can log into it without a password. Log out from the Groups site (or open a browser which is not logged in). Then go to the Log In page and click the "Email me a link to log in" button, and enter into that page the alternative email address. /sendloginlink Groups.io will send to that address an email message containing a coded link. Click that and you'll be logged in to the account of the alternative address. Now you can check to ensure that it is not subscribed to any groups, and then delete the account. Re: GMF Anniversary - Sat, 09/28/2019
#cal-notice
Happy to know that GMF has persisted for as long as it has. Congrats to Mark F., and many thanks to Shal, Bruce and all the helpful moderators and members who make GMF so helpful!
GMF proved most useful for me when I got handed an existing YGroup and suddenly was a new group owner. GMF continues to be helpful now that our group has settled onto Groups.IO and is (happily) away from YGroups, LEO, and that whole ongoing frustration of Y!Groups. Cheers! Paul M. Re: cannot add alias after deleting as subscriber
Hi Shal
I can't figure out how to log back in using the alternative email, because I previously dted that subscriber, and also I never created a login (password) for that email in the first place. Any suggestions how to get out of this maze? Sorry for this hassle. Thanks Peter |

I am trying to respond to Chad group [and] I am doing something wrong.? Previous posts are not showing up in my reply.?Using the online message editor, you can quote the entire message by clicking the far-left icon on the menu bar in the editor ("Quote Whole Post"). Or you can highlight a portion of the message before you hit the Reply button, and that section of the message will be quoted (as I have done above). There is no group or account setting within groups.io that will automatically do this for you. With respect to your email client, there are usually settings/preferences that can be set for this. To provide further assistance we would need to know what you are using to read your email. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Re: Combine membership emails

Tom,
Currentlly when you direct add a member to a group and connectedI believe that you can uncheck the Active box in the Welcome notices of each of the subgroups to prevent them from being sent automatically. The notices are stored in the Member Notices tab of each (sub)group's Settings page. Editing the "sig" on a New Topic email
Bob Gerard
When I go into the Group which I administer and click on New Topic, in the blank where I type the text of the email, I already have this set up to be the "sig": ? To change your subscription, visit: /g/TechTuesday/editsub ( /g/AllApple/editsub/229866 ) |
Combine membership emails
#suggestion
Currentlly when you direct add a member to a group and connected subgroups an email is generated for each one. ?In our case it creats 4 email to the member, one for the main group and 3 for seperate subgroups. ?It would be nice if the member got just one email notifying them of their membership(s).
I know it would require a link for each group if they want to unsubscribe from the group, but that seems like a doable option. Peace, Tom |

Members Directory questions
Good morning,
As an Owner/Moderator I can see all the members of our group, no problem.? However, when my wife who is a 'mere' member, looks at the Directory on her machine she can only view 20 members although the page states 20 of 240.? When clicking the next arrow (bottom right) the 'No entry' sign is displayed and obviously nothing happens.? She has, I believe, set the appropriate fields in her profile. Any ideas please? -- Peter |

Re: Problem with muting topics
Bruce, Shal -- Recent testing on my end suggests that this is not so. Changes to the subject line will cause an emailed reply to initiate a new topic despite the presence of reply-to/references information. In retrospect I think I knew that, but being uncertain I went with the Wiki citation. We probably need to locate and cite a later message in beta for that change. I imagine that the use case is that members too often use their email reply function and change the Subject, expecting it to be a new topic. Changes to the subject line will cause an emailed reply to initiate a new topic despite the presence of reply-to/references information. Only the manipulation of hashtags or changing the case of letters seems to be ignored. I've also noted that if I add a hashtag to my reply that didn't appear the post that began the topic, that hashtag is stripped before it posts. There's probably more to investigate here but I stopped testing stuff at that point. Regards, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
Re: Problem with muting topics
Marina,
Changing, even slightly, the message topic can interfere with the MuteMaybe. In most cases of email replies (and all cases of reply via the group's Messages section) the reply will contain header information that links it back to the message it is a reply to. That will direct the reply into the same topic. Also, in the subject matching algorithm (for replies by email which do not carry the needed header information) I believe that hashtags are ignored for the purpose of matching to an existing topic.
