Activity does not show invited or direct added. Now I see 100 members on the group's home page instead of 1. Looks like something worked! Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Direct adding members - Clarity Request

Shane,
I note that the group itself is quite new (created less than 20 hours ago). Have you already received the approval notice for the group creation? That too should have been prompt, and probably the Direct Add page should have been unavailable until the group was approved. Activity does not show invited or direct added.I went and looked back the emails for one of my groups, and the text you cited ("This is to notify you that your pending additions to ... have been approved and sent out.") is indeed the text of the message I received. Maybe "sent out" refers to the Welcome notices. The corresponding activity log entries were: [mod] added [member] with message "..." via web Where the ... was a copy of the text in the Add Member notice sent to the member. There was one such entry per member added. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Shane,
?
Activity does not show invited or direct added. ?
Perhaps. But I think an inquiry to [email protected] is in order also. The lack of corresponding event log entries is very peculiar.

So weird. Invite shows nothing. Activity does not show invited or direct added. Should I try again? |
Re: Direct adding members - Clarity Request

Shane, However, our direct add of 98 members came up with a notice that we need to wait for approval. I cannot find information about the approval process or timescale. Fortunately there is nothing further you need to do. As you've discovered approval often happens quickly.
That is strange. The wording "and sent out" implies that you used the Invite feature rather than Direct Add. On the other hand, "pending additions" sounds more like Direct Add. If you go to the Invite page, and click the Sent Invitations button there does it show your list of invitees? If you go to the Activity page are there entries that say whether those addresses were invited or direct added? Now a little weirder. I just got a mail saying: "This is to notify you that your pending additions to [email protected] have been approved and sent out." but our group shows no new members... /g/openchain-automotive-work-group Please help :( |

Hi there! At the Linux Foundation we are moving our automotive work group from Mailman to Groups.io. However, our direct add of 98 members came up with a notice that we need to wait for approval. I cannot find information about the approval process or timescale. However, our chair - Endo San from Toyota - wants to send around some meeting minutes today. Can you assist with clarifying what is going on?? Shane |

Re: Can group owner change a members email-address?
Victoria,
? If you upgrade the group to premium you can do that. You could choose the Premium for one month option, change them all during your 30 days, then the group would revert back to Basic.
They could if they had already set up a password for their Groups.io account. But from what you say these are likely people who didn't ever log in to Groups.io.
An invitation is probably the easiest answer for them. They can reply to it and be subscribed under their new address without having to go to Groups.io's web pages. If they only want to read and post by email that's pretty simple.
Absent an email address change (by you or by them), their old membership will remain bouncing. Whether you invite them, or they use the +subscribe email command, or they use the Join/Apply button on your group's home page, those will all create a new subscription based on their new address. Which does abandon their ownership of any posts or uploaded content they may have contributed under their old email address. Can group owner change a members email-address?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, some of my bounced members have a second email-address under which I can reach them privately. They havent?t been able to read or write in the group for a while because their addresses ¨C all of them yahoo - do not work any more. They want ?to stay members in the group though, but do not know how to go about it. And I don?t know how to help them.. ? Since they cannot get into the group with their original addresses, they cannot change their addresses themselves in order to get out of bouncing. Some of these are elderly people, they were moved from yahoo to io without having to do anything themselves, many are technically unfit and others don?t speak English well enough to even understand the invitation message language mix. ? Do you have an idea how I could help them? Is it only possible by invitation using their second address? Or do they have to apply for a new membership? Both difficult for them¡ ? My favourite option would be if I as owner could just change their email-adresses. ? Victoria ? |

Re: Subgroups and main group messages
Jenine,
?
The members of 1 subgroup do not want to receive all of the main list messages. Is there a place I can shut that of for this subgroup alone? Not in bulk, but each subgroup 1 member also has a Subscription page in the primary group - and there they can select Digest or No Email, or some other preference for messages in the primary group.
?
It might be tedious, but you can do that for them. The only difficulty I see is identifying which primary group members are subgroup 1 members. The primary group's Members list doesn't show that information, which would be handy if it did because you could checkmark just those members and use the Actions menu (bottom of each page) to change their email delivery. The Subgroups page (in the primary group's Admin group of pages) does tell you which subgroups, if any, a given member belongs to. You can click from their to the member's primary group membership page, but then you are changing them one at a time.
?
If not, can I create a second group then transfer the subgroup¡¯s membership to it? No.
?
There is no facility to copy or move members or content from one group or subgroup to another, nor a way to change a subgroup to a primary group or to move it to a different primary group.
?

Re: Allow calendar update without granting moderator role

Four Seasons, I wanted ONLY one subscriber to have calendar update privilege. I granted him moderator status, but then he started getting messages related to approving new subscribers. Which he did not want to receive.? He can go to his Subscription page, scroll down near the bottom, and uncheck any Notifications he doesn't wish to receive. Likewise forwarding of messages sent to the group's +owner address. Or, you can do that for him from his page in the Members or Moderators list. Is there a way to grant ONLY calendar update privilege, without all of the other moderator privs.? ? As Duane mentioned, you can uncheck all of his moderator permissions. Again from his page in the group's Members or Moderators list. He'll still have access to any other areas that may be restricted to moderators (Files, Photos, etc); read through the list of Moderator Privileges to see what each does. How can I invite members automatically?
#invitation
Hi, folks! I'm interested in using groups.io to host a members-only discussion group. I would like to invite new members by some kind of webhook/API or some other automatic means, so that I'm not the bottleneck in adding new members. What does groups.io offer in this regard? An API? Webhook integration? Anything?
I have the same question about removing members. Thank you! |
