Re: Group denied?

Maybe use the name "SonyICF-SW55Owners"?? Unless it is just an ad...

Group denied?

??? I have started a new groups.io for the SONY short wave receiver the SW55....? Usually this does not take long but when I checked my email I was taken aback that it was denied! Here is a copy of the email....

Your group has been denied

to me

Hello,

This is an automated message. Your group [email protected] has been denied. The reason is that groups that are just advertisements for goods or services are not permitted.

The Groups.io Team

?? This group was to be formed to get away from the restrictions recently found on the Yahoo groups and I have transferred several groups already in the same manner. Maybe I should try again seeing this was from an automated part of groups.io

any suggestions?? Thanks Rod

Bob -- There is no such setting.

It would be very handy if there was an Emailed Files folder, similar to what we already have for Emailed Photos. Lacking that, you can set up such a folder in the general Files area; you can even give it the same name. But you will have to download/extract such files from each message yourself followed by uploading them there manually.

I hope this helps, but it probably doesn't.

Re: Yahoo Group Transfer Status #transfer

On the Yahoo groups transfer page, "archives" means existing emails.

You have to pay for a year of Premium to get it done, though, at $110. I'm not aware of any "manual" way to transfer existing messages.

More information at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Hope this helps,

Re: #howto #reply-to-group #reply-to-group #howto

Theo,

We have an announcement group with replies currently sent to moderators only.

What we would really like to do is capture any replies and keep them somewhere on our group board so that any and all members may view all the replies. We would like to do this without all the replies being sent back out to the group.

Is there a way of handling replies in this manner with the wonderful ?

Almost.

There's the No Email option for a hashtag, which prevents messages from being sent out by email, yet they are still recorded in the Messages section. The trouble is that if you put a hashtag with that option on your original announcement then it won't be emailed either; but if you don't the hashtag won't be on the replies.

If you don't mind moderating all of the replies you might be able to add such a hashtag when the reply arrives in the Pending list. I'm not sure that would actually work, so it might be worth testing in a .

You would of course also have to un-check Announcement Group in the Spam Control section of the group's Settings page; and probably check Moderated instead so that all of the replies are held pending. Oh yes, and in Message Policies set Reply To to Group.
---
A sneakier way to do it might be to set all of the members' subscriptions Advanced Preferences to Following Only with First Message Also checked (maybe, or maybe not, also Auto Follow Replies). This way the members would receive each announcement (being a first message in a topic) but none of the replies. The only downside I can think of is that those settings are under the member's control - a member could change it so that he/she does receive the replies.

And of course you also have to un-check Announcement Group in the Spam Control section of the group's Settings page; but this way you (probably) don't need to check Moderated (maybe use New Users Moderated instead), and in Message Policies set Reply To to Group.

Re: Missing cal-summary emails anyone? #cal-summary

I reported the lack of cal-summary emails to support and Mark has responded:

Hi Andy,

There was a bug specific to the 1st of the month being on a Thursday (don't ask....). It's been fixed.

Thanks,
Mark
I expect we'll see a reference to this on the next #changelog

Re: Yahoo Group Transfer Status #transfer

Dan,

So, here's the question -- can conversations/emails from Yahoo groups still be transferred at all???

If there's any known reason why they couldn't you would likely be alerted to that fact by a red notice on the Yahoo Easy Transfer instructions page.

It has been a long time since I transferred any groups, so a testimonial from me would be obsolete.

Re: 'bounces'

Anita,

The CSV file is too difficult to read and sort (for me).

It is a lot easier to deal with if you load it into Excel or a similar program, so that the data is separated into rows and columns.

Shal - on the members' page, how do I find the 'red' and 'blue' designations?

To see just the members whose email address is on bouncing status, use the drop-menu on the Members page (red arrow) to select the Bouncing list.:
image.png

Those members will also appear in the normal Members list, with their red and blue B badges, but they may be widely separated among non-bouncing members.

That is/was a huge incentive for us to switch over to Groups.io

A month or two ago, i saw a thread in this forum that Yahoo had changed their "login" and that the transfer technology used by Groups.Io was no longer functional.? Glad to hear that is old news.

Re: Yahoo Group Transfer Status #transfer

It is available for premium groups only. You can pay for a premium
group for one year in advance, use the transfer function and direct
add function, etc, and revert to the free membership when your year is
over.

Just Invite or Direct Add your Yahoo Group members.

Also, manually upload any content (Files, Photos) you want in your Groups.io group.

Messages don't count against the limit.? It may sound unlikely now, but wait until a few humongous pictures get uploaded if you don't have them set to be resized.? Or a large picture gets repeated in replies to a post.
