Re: #howto #reply-to-group

Theo,
Almost. There's the No Email option for a hashtag, which prevents messages from being sent out by email, yet they are still recorded in the Messages section. The trouble is that if you put a hashtag with that option on your original announcement then it won't be emailed either; but if you don't the hashtag won't be on the replies. If you don't mind moderating all of the replies you might be able to add such a hashtag when the reply arrives in the Pending list. I'm not sure that would actually work, so it might be worth testing in a . You would of course also have to un-check Announcement Group in the Spam Control section of the group's Settings page; and probably check Moderated instead so that all of the replies are held pending. Oh yes, and in Message Policies set Reply To to Group. --- A sneakier way to do it might be to set all of the members' subscriptions Advanced Preferences to Following Only with First Message Also checked (maybe, or maybe not, also Auto Follow Replies). This way the members would receive each announcement (being a first message in a topic) but none of the replies. The only downside I can think of is that those settings are under the member's control - a member could change it so that he/she does receive the replies. And of course you also have to un-check Announcement Group in the Spam Control section of the group's Settings page; but this way you (probably) don't need to check Moderated (maybe use New Users Moderated instead), and in Message Policies set Reply To to Group. -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

We have an announcement group with replies currently sent to moderators only. What we would really like to do is capture any replies and keep them somewhere on our group board so that any and all members may view all the replies. We would like to do this without all the replies being sent back out to the group. Is there a way of handling replies in this manner with the wonderful groups.io? |

Re: Yahoo Group Transfer Status

Dan, So, here's the question -- can conversations/emails from Yahoo groups still be transferred at all??? If there's any known reason why they couldn't you would likely be alerted to that fact by a red notice on the Yahoo Easy Transfer instructions page. It has been a long time since I transferred any groups, so a testimonial from me would be obsolete. Re: 'bounces'
Anita, The CSV file is too difficult to read and sort (for me). It is a lot easier to deal with if you load it into Excel or a similar program, so that the data is separated into rows and columns. Shal - on the members' page, how do I find the 'red' and 'blue' designations? To see just the members whose email address is on bouncing status, use the drop-menu on the Members page (red arrow) to select the Bouncing list.: Those members will also appear in the normal Members list, with their red and blue B badges, but they may be widely separated among non-bouncing members. It is available for premium groups only. You can pay for a premium
group for one year in advance, use the transfer function and direct add function, etc, and revert to the free membership when your year is over. Dan,
?
What is the current state of the Yahoo! groups transfer feature?? is it available or not ... ?
Looks available to me. What makes you think it might not be?
If you haven't see: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups
?
?
and if not what options are there for less technical folks? ?
Just Invite or Direct Add your Yahoo Group members.
Also, manually upload any content (Files, Photos) you want in your Groups.io group. Shal

Free 1 GB question ?

Hi all!
Quick question(s): if your group is on the ¡°free¡± plan, what happens when you reach the 1 GB limit (unlikely as that sounds [!])? ?If you WANT to stay on the free plan, would you have to delete certain (I would imagine it would be past topics/discussions) in order to free up more space (that is IF you don¡¯t want to partake in any of the paid plans/subscriptions)? Re: Newbie Here -- a [transfer] Question
Dan Robinson
Duane -- thanks for that.? My question now -- I have established the new group and set premium level.? Do I assume correctly that now that I have made a transfer request, Groups.io will follow through within ????? period of time to move files, photos, conversations etc?
|
Re: Newbie Here -- a [transfer] Question
I believe that to be true, Dan.? I had that same issue when I moved a Yahoo group to groups.io.? We only had about 25 members so inviting them all individually was not a great chore.? However transferring all the photos manually was a chore, as there were a great many.? However it did give me the opportunity to edit out the really old or irrelevant ones and save some space.? The process involved downloading the picture from Yahoo and uploading it to groups.io.? The download was a simple matter of clicking so I have all of the pictures locally but only the better ones went back up.? I've had no complaints. HTH, On 02/08/2019 19:58, Dan Robinson wrote:

Alternatively, if I turn off the "allow attachments"? option for the group, then turn it back on, will it clear out that folder?to which Shal replied I haven't tested this, but I doubt it.? If it worked I have to believe that someone would have mentioned it in GMF or beta by now. I have conducted a test and Shal's doubts are correct. Setting Attachments to Strip rather than Allow makes the emailed photos section disappear from view, although the storage used by it remains on display in Photos. Resetting Attachments to Allow results in the emailed photos section reappearing just as it was previously so that is not a method of clearing it out. Shal; I used your test group for this, and I have left everything as it was previously. I note that the Activity Log is not entirely helpful; it merely records that a setting has been changed without any detail of what has been changed. Similarly undoing the change results in another (identical) entry saying that a setting has been changed. Chris |
Re: 'bounces'
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAnita, and Shal,
You can get a list of the User Status by:
On left panel, go to Admin/Members/Download will give you a webpage *memberlist.csv* , which
you can save somewhere memorable.
Import that into a spreadsheet, sort on the last column,
"User Status(0=Not Confirmed,1=Confirmed,2=Inactive,3=Bouncing,4=Bounced)
and check out the 3's and 4's
I hope that is clear enough.
OK,
Tony

Re: 'bounces'
Anita, I'd like to track the postings to my members (BREX) that bounce. Maybe generate a list? The messages? That's an interesting idea. You can of course look in your group's Members page for a list of the addresses (members) that have met the criteria for the Bouncing (blue B) or Bounced (red B) status. If that's not possible, then I'd like to know how to get a count. I'm not entirely certain how one would go about this. I think you'd have to visit each member's subscription page and collect the list of Recent Bounces. Totaling the number of entries in those lists will give you some kind of measure, but it is uncertain due to the word "Recent". You might want to try and correlate which messages bounced when sent to which members; but I suspect that would turn out to be random. In your experience, are the bounces consistent: once bounced? aways bounce? No. Email services reject message delivery for many different reasons. Some of the reasons are more or less permanent (that email address has been closed), others are explicitly transient (I'm too busy right now, try again later). The explicitly transient ones Groups.io handles automatically by retrying the delivery of that message to that member later. But eventually Groups.io will give up on those retries, and then it becomes recorded as a "bounce".
