An interesting thought! As chance would have it we both had related posts in the moderation queue at the same time; you have possibly read it already but in case you haven't see this post on the subject of recent "bulk" additions to the Yahoo bounce list.?

I would sincerely hope that this isn't a case of "hostile action" on the part of Yahoo but if private messages from you aren't being bounced it certainly constitutes grounds for suspicion.

Perhaps more to the point have you had responses to your messages, or just "no bounces"? And have those private messages been via Groups.io or from your own email address?

I hope a moderator sees this amendment :)

I'm not getting bounces from the PRIVATE messages sent to at least two members so far, though the bounce from the groups.io bounce probe was practically instantaneous. So maybe Yahoo is blacklisting groups.io in a different way?

As some have mentioned in beta, clearing out accounts that haven't been signed in for over a year has been a longstanding policy at Yahoo, but only intermittently enforced.
I know this thread is a bit "elderly" but I spotted the other day that there appeared to be a lot of Yahoo addresses listed as Bouncing in the Activity Log of the group I moderate. A bit more investigation has revealed the following.

  • The group in question has 742 members with Yahoo addresses listed.
  • The group has a total of 256 members listed as bouncing
  • Of those 256, 184 have Yahoo addresses
  • Last time I checked (quite some time ago) there were just over 100 addresses bouncing, but I did not investigate further at the time
  • The bulk addition to the (Yahoo) bouncing list seems to have occurred over the period 16th - 22nd March. I haven't counted them but there are defintely over 100 of them, with occasional other email addresses listed as well.
  • Over the same time period there were about 15 "Unbounced" members, but there were no Yahoo addresses listed amongst them

So I strongly suspect that Shal's?It seems that Yahoo is doing some spring cleaning of dormant accounts is right on the button.

Re: reached limit of new members

Jim,

I'm thinking it would be a very good idea if the answer to this repetitive ... question were contained within the message sent to an Owner/Moderator who invites "too many" people at once.

I haven't seen that message in a long time, but this sounds like a good idea to me. Mark may be reluctant to say anything that sounds like a commitment to a timeframe, but hopefully you or he can come up with something agreeably vague.

Does anyone have a sample of the text? If I recall correctly it is a banner, not an email. But the notice of the review completion is an email, does anyone have a sample of that? I'm thinking these samples and some advice about Invite/Direct Add might be good fodder for GMF's wiki. Something almost as simple as the Bounce Probe example.

There is a page about Direct Add from a? Yahoo Group, but it is focused on that task, not the overall Invite or Direct Add process.

But back to your suggestion - I know you know where the suggestion box is and how to use it.

Received from Shal Farley at 4/3/2019 09:22 PM UTC:

As an anti-spam measure, your invitation list will be reviewed and (presumably) approved by Groups.io. It may take a few hours for that to happen, maybe days but not usually that long.

I'm thinking it would be a very good idea if the answer to this repetitive (an aptly descriptive word, not a criticism) question were contained within the message sent to an Owner/Moderator who invites "too many" people at once.

That approach should eliminate the regularly expressed confusion over this situation.

Calendar Feed Behavior When Removing a Member from Subgroup

Hi all - Does anyone know if there is a way to have a calendar feed no longer be available to a subgroup member after they are removed from the group? I tested it and it doesn't seem to automatically remove the feed unfortunately.

Trying to solve for wanting to remove calendar meeting invite access for closed subgroups.?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

Re: Invite not working

I'd tried to mitigate that possibility by ensuring the erols domain was receiving and sending standard email properly, which it did, from/to different sending email addresses. But maybe something to do with the groups.io interface with RCN. ?Will try again tomorrow.

Many thanks, Bruce!

Based on the 400-level error code, this seems more likely to be a temporary problem with the erols/RCN email server. At this time my own provider's nameserver cannot resolve erols.com into an IP address. Try again tomorrow?

Not /"officially" /there isn't, but if you go to your members list and enter the domain in the *Search* box and click on Search then all the members using that will be listed. For the group I moderate that method has just revealed that we have 742 members with Yahoo email addresses of one sort or another. Several are listed as /Bouncing/. :)

And, of course, many thanks for any guidance!

One other, probably related, issue with my test group. ?I also had the same aspiring subscriber (the same one for whom the invite failed due to messaging limit) send a request to subscribe using the format <[email protected]>. ?But, after 30 minutes or so, I (as the group owner) didn't receive that request either. ?

Maybe this is all related to a setting I've neglected with setup?

Thanks again!

Invite not working

Hello,

I'm new to groups.io, have some experience running a group on yahoo and am reasonably tech savvy (though certainly not expert!).

Anyway, problem as follows.

- created a test group to test all the functionality with a small group of subscribers and before upgrading (which we'll do shortly so we can direct add new subscribers)
- sent an invite to a correct email address while I had that recipient on the phone so we waiting 15-20 minutes and she never got the invite
- confirmed the address to which the invite was sent was correct
- confirmed that recipient address was functional by sending a normal email to it (which worked quickly and normally so was received)
- did get an error message in my "sent invitations" about exceeding my "messaging limit" but that seems off since it was my first invite and I'd only made 2-3 test posts in the group at that point, as its only subscriber and owner

sorting member emails by domain

Holly

I was wondering whether there's a way to sort member emails by their domains. I have some bouncing Yahoo members and still some Charter members. I would like to sort by domains in order to see if any other members have those domains but are not bouncing.

TIA,

Holly

Re: not receiving emails

Mona,

I'm still not receiving emails I send.

Please help us help you. Please follow Bruce's suggestions and tell us what you see.

?
Is there a help desk I can contact or is this just the moderators group mailing list?

See /static/help#questions. Questions like yours are best addressed through this group (GMF). There is a support address for bug reports listed and an official suggestion box, but I don't think your situation fits either of those.

-"I always want copies of my own emails" checkbox is ticked.
-When I send an email to the groupname@groups.io it does not show in the messages list on the website either.

As Bruce said, that is something entirely different than simply not receiving your own messages.

It could be that:
  • you are posting To the wrong address,
  • you are posting From the wrong address,?
  • your post was rejected for other reasons (see the group's Activity log),
  • your posts are being held in the group's Pending list,

Yes there is Chris. Hope I spelled your name right. I dont know what browser you use. The general idea is this: go to eo or wherever you are going. Now find Send To, possibly on your File Menu. Press enter there and there are choices such as,
email Page by email or, finally the one you want, Shortcut on Desktop. Choose that/ computer may say something about do you want a shortcut for etc, simply click OKAY Done. Now you can find it and create a hotkey if you like. Smiling. HTH. Use this frequently. Bill

Yes of course; the ability to do that is a function of your browser, not of Groups.io. See your browser's instructions for how to do it. The graphic will be set automatically.

Re: Emails from New Members

Rene,

?

Thank you.? One of our members was unable to deliver her message and this was what she received.

?

?

?
It would be helpful to know what the text of that error was. That information should have been in the message she received, the How to Fix It box appears to give instructions to read the reported error.
?
I think the most likely errors would be something to the effect of "no such group" meaning that she had typo'd the group posting address, or "not a member" meaning that she attempted to post from an address other than the one listed in your group's Members list.
?
In the case of "not a member" you should also be able to find a corresponding item in your group's Activity log.

I changed all of the members and owner¡¯s settings to match this message below and I am still unable to receive emails from one of the owners.? He keeps trying to reply and nothing is coming through.

?

On his next attempt have him CC the message to your personal email address. Then, assuming you receive that, you can examine the To: field to verify that he sent the message to the group's posting address. Oftentimes it is as simple as a typo.

Assuming the To address of his message was correct, tell us what you find in the group's Activity log. There should be an entry corresponding to that attempt.

Do you use an e-mail program (e.g. Thunderbird, Outlook), an e-mail web
site (e.g. Gmail) or the Groups.io web site itself to read your groups?

If you're using the Groups.io web site itself, which browser do you use?
Oh, and which operating system (and which version) do you have?

Is there a standard graphic I should use?
There doesn't seem to be a Groups.io icon pack available yet. I needed
one a while back, but could not find any.
