If you are logged in, click New Topic on the left-side menu bar. This will open a window with a message editor where you can compose your message. Click the Send button when done.

Or using your email client, post a message to [email protected],?replacing GROUPNAME with the actual name of your group.

?I am testing to see if?groups.io will work for me to?import a community of 1700 from Yahoo groups to groups.io...
As of yesterday, the Yahoo Easy Group Transfer mechanism is no longer working (see?). For the foreseeable future group owners will have to transfer all content manually, including their member list.

New word on beta:

The Easy Yahoo Group Transfer feature may be down for the count unless Mark finds some inspiration and motivation to work around the latest change by Yahoo / Verizon Media. And this time it does seem like a Yahoo Groups specific change.

Re: Group settings #settings

musiclady,

Okay I should explain. This all started when I got this message from someone:
?
"... can you set this for all mail reply to sender? ... I don't need the extra mail coming?in my mail box, if not I will have to leave. ..."

I think there are two possibilities.

One is that she wants the group's Reply To changed to Sender - that is found in the Message Policies section of your group's Settings page, and would affect everyone's conversations. Every reply would go to the sender, and not to the group. That would not be appropriate for a discussion style group, but might be appropriate to other types.

The other possibility is that what she's looking for is in her Subscription page, under Advanced Preferences. There she can choose to receive Following Only, First Message Also, and Auto Follow Replies. Choosing those settings would mean that she would receive the first message in each new topic but not any of the replies, unless she started the topic or replied to it. Or elected to follow the topic by way of a link in the message footer.

I am assuming from this new inquiry that you're now logged into the group with the proper email address (i.e.: the Owner badge is now showing up) and have restored your own access to administrative functions.

Your subscriber can easily turn off group email delivery without any help from you. One way is to send an empty email to [email protected]?where GROUPNAME is the name of your group. See the system help at?/static/help#emailcommands?for other email commands. If she is logged in, she can also click on Subscription on the left-side menu bar, and change her Email Delivery setting on the resulting page.?

Failing that, you can turn off email delivery for her. Go to Admin>Members and click anywhere on her member record to open it. Scroll down to Email Delivery, check the corresponding radio button, then click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page.

After doing so, she will no longer receive group emails, but can still read group messages at her leisure by logging in and reading the message archive online. I do not recommend changing the mail delivery requirements for the entire group based on a request from a single subscriber.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

So you would seriously consider changing a "major" setting like that on the basis of a single comment?

I know I wouldn't. If your "complainant" is overloaded with emails that is a problem for him or her to resolve, not expect other group owners to change settings just to suit (on the face of it) one person.

The simple way to manage email deliveries is to work from the web UI and turn "Individual Emails" off from selected groups.?

That means you're not signed in as the group owner.? Only owners (or moderators with proper permissions) can see/change the Settings.

Re: Bouncing emails.

Barry,

What link do I send to them to unbounce their account?

I think any link to Groups.io will do.

IIRC a member with Bouncing or Bounced status will see a red banner at the top of each Groups.io page, with instructions for sending themselves a bounce probe. Unbouncing an account necessarily starts with receipt of a bounce probe - that demonstrates that the person is now able to receive at least that message from Groups.io.

Re: Bouncing emails.

Jim Higgins

Only groups.io can provide the individual links to unbounce their accounts. I suggest emailing them and telling them to be on the lookout for a bounce probe from Groups.io... in their inbox or in their junk/spam folders and to reply to it when found. Then send them all a bounce probe via Groups.io.

the above will do no good unless the underlying problem has been corrected, so you may want to cover that in the initial email you send.

Re: Hi Friends [need help recovering membership]

Hi Luis,

Appreciate your assistance to recover my membership privileges.?

In Groups.io your email address is also your log in ID - so perhaps your membership in whatever group is connected with a different email address than the one you logged in with.

If you receive messages from that group by email, have a look at the very bottom of a recent message. There, in the footer, it will show your subscription address in that group. You need to log in using that address in order to be recognized as a member of that group.

Hope that helps. If not, please give us some more detail about your situation. But don't include any private info, GMF's archives are open to the public.

Bob,

Not necessarily Yahoo Groups. The last outage had to do with the Sign In system, which is shared in common with Yahoo Mail and other still-supported products.

Mark wasn't as specific about this one, so it may or may not be something that pertains only to Yahoo Groups.

Maybe things will improve there.

One never knows.

There's been some recent buzz in recently about news stories relating to Verizon Media properties (formerly Oath, formerly Yahoo and AOL). I'm not holding my breath for further developments, good or bad.

Re: Problems with Comcast Account/Replies

This is a user-to-user group, so none of us have any inside information on delivery problems, nor any way to see what's actually happening.? Comcast has been known to make changes that effect delivery, along with sometimes long delays in actually delivering email.? I checked a few of my Comcast members and they all seem to be getting messages fine (not bouncing anyway).

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. I am migrating my own groups from Yahoo as soon as this is resolved. And others should do all they can to fly away from there.?

Although not applicable to this case another moderation option is Delete, which to the best of my knowledge does not send a report back to the message's originator. As it is right beside the Reject tab I suppose it is always possible that a moderator might press the wrong one.

I will need to email them direct. I think they may think that the message from groups to unbounce their accounts is spam and they have deleted it. Because of the problem with xtra, there will be several hundred addresses that have been bounced.

What link do I send to them to unbounce their account?

Accounts will continue to bounce until the underlying problem is fixed. If you know how to do that, it's a good idea to contact these subscribers ahead of time, telling them what to do.?

At that point you can force groups.io to send them a new bounce probe:

  • Go to Admin>Members.
  • Pull down the blue menu at upper left and select "Bouncing."
  • Select all associated members' checkboxes, then
  • Select "Send Bounce Probe" from the Actions menu at the bottom of the page.
Again, it's up to the subscriber to fix the underlying problem, and confirm successful receipt of a groups.io email by clicking on the link in the probe. You cannot unbounce a subscriber's account for them.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce?
