Yes, deleted means that specific thread/topic is deleted.? I use it for postings of #ForSale items so the topic gets deleted after a month.

No, locked just means that the specific thread/topic is locked, so no more replies are allowed.? It will still be in the archive for future reference, as many early topics in the Beta group are.? It doesn't keep someone from starting a new topic with the exact same subject line though.

Re: questions on hashtags

What do they mean by "topic deleted" and "topic locked"? Does "deleted" mean the messages associated with that topic are deleted and no longer in the archive? Does "locked" mean that no one can ever use that subject line ever again? What would be the point of doing either of these things? More useful would be a setting that ended the current thread and future postings with the same subject and hashtag would be considered to be a new thread. Is there some way to do that?

It means the topic will be deleted after that time period. If you want it to be locked instead of deleted, tic the "lock topic" checkbox immediately below.
I can't really answer your other two questions for certain. I thought the alias was just another name for the same hashtag (so such constructs as #intro and #introduction could share a hashtag). But when I click in the box to set up an alias, a list of established hashtags pops up. So I don't know what the goal is, and the system help </static/help#hashtags> is completely silent on it.
I've always thought that the "Use by Mods Only" checkbox applied only to topic initiation, and does not disable replies at all...but that seems to contradict what the system help says. Perhaps other Moderators are able to reply, but no one else.* When I want to disable replies completely, I tic the "locked" checkbox.
Hope something in there helps,

Thanks for the link. It appears to be a log-in problem which disables Groups.io export code. Mark wrote:

I'm passing this along! LOL

I don't think we should speculate. If it's not known why Yahoo did this I think it should be so stated: We don't know.

One question that I have. When did this take place? I just became aware of it (and this group) yesterday.

I¡¯m hoping that it¡¯s a short time before they get the workaround figured out.

Clicking the Download button sends the file as a binary data stream. What your computer does with that stream depends on your browser settings. With images, most browsers will simply redisplay the image. To actually download it requires a right-click and a "save as."

There is a way to force a download from the server side, but I'm told that caused other problems and was subsequently abandoned.

I cannot see any way to add exceptions to the repeats. Would this be useful to anyone else?

Re: Exceptions in calendar

The closest I've seen (in other software) is where you setup a recurring
(for some range) and then you have an easy edit/review of these dates. You
then can 'edit/delete instance' for each of those dates. So the usual would
be entering for a year or two, then slide through the period and remove the
ones that conflict with the special days.

I've not seen any software that has some sort of script/logic to alter the
recurring for special events, only manual individual actions.

?David,

Interesting point. I don't recall seeing this functionality in any scheduling software I've used. But I can see where it would be useful.

As a feeble workaround, I would suggest including the exception rules in your reminder text.

Re: Yahoo transfers disabled #pgoffline

Donald,

The downside is that once you start the new group, I'm not sure what
happens if you still try to transfer the old messages from Yahoo after
new conversations have started.
The copied messages get assigned message numbers after the current messages, and possibly intermingled with ongoing postings.

This is not a big problem because the copied messages retain their original posting dates, so they appear in the "right" place in topics / messages lists (which are chronologically sorted).

Re: Yahoo transfers disabled #pgoffline

Brandy,

but I cannot directly add them to groups.io because that's a paid
feature.
In my PTA group I use the "Group Transfer (Premium For One Month)" plan once or twice each year to cover school registration and any major membership drives. It is a one-time payment and the group automatically drops back to Basic after 30 days.

Whether that's worth it to you would depend on how large a list you have, and how much you detest the hassle of following up invitations. At least invitations are more reliable (and tracked) at Groups.io than they were at Y!Groups. Faced with a few hundred parent's email addresses each school year, I've treated the Premium fee as an "in-kind" donation to the PTA.

I think during this time groups.io should open that feature to Yahoo
group owners who are now unable to transfer their groups.
That would open the feature up to spammers. The payment is a way of deterring them, so I don't think it is likely that Groups.io would make it free. Abuse by spammers is why the Direct Add feature disappeared from Yahoo Groups years ago.

You could suggest it anyway. Maybe Mark can figure out another way to prevent abuse.

Re: Bug? Photos no longer downloadable #bug #photos

I just checked and was able to download photos a couple of different ways.? The most straight forward was to click the Download button under a photo, right click, select Save Image As on the menu, and save it.? The less optimal way was to open a photo, right click, select View Background Image, then do the right click / save on that image.? (I've found that the second method gives me a larger image due to the limit I've set for our photos on upload.)

If you can live with leaving the messages on the old Yahoo group and
start new from here on in the new group, how about taking the email
addresses and sending each of them (a few at a time) a link to the new
group to have them join? Or send out some invitations directly from
the group?

The downside is that once you start the new group, I'm not sure what
happens if you still try to transfer the old messages from Yahoo after

If your Y!G is still working, you can also wait it out to see what
happens. You would still have the current functionality of Yahoo
Groups until you can transfer or you find out that transfers are no
longer possible (I hope that won't be the case).

Re: Yahoo transfers disabled #pgoffline

Brandy,

Can I use another export program to transfer my Yahoo groups into Groups.io, even if it's just the members?
?
As Bruce mentioned, PG Offline is a good choice. If it is still working then it is able to download all Y!Group content, including members, messages, files, and photos.

There are also member and file download tools on YahooGroupedia:

These are extensions for the Chrome browser, and require a bit of technical effort to install and use.

And, of course, if your group has 1000 or fewer members you can directly export the list as a CSV file from the Actions menu on the Manage Members page.

All of these methods leave you with the problem of uploading the content into your Groups.io group; except for the Members list - for that you can use Direct Add (if your group isn't Premium you could use the one-month of Premium option, for $10.).
