Re: Is groups.io really unsuitable for my needs?
Glenn Glazer
Hello, Gaute. I run two groups.io groups that were formerly Yahoo! groups and they work exactly as all four of your bullet points below require.

Problem Subscribing
I have someone who keeps trying to reply to the confirmation email but keeps getting "undelivered" message back.
I have noticed that his email address is of the form name@... ?where "owndomain" is his name. ?I think that it's a virtual domain and the problem is that he might be using a bigger isp to relay his mail. Can anyone advise? |

Sorry. ?I wasn¡¯t clear. ?I reached this conclusion by reading this thread and searching around the net. ?If I try to get the membership lists in sync and it works or it fails, I will document it in this thread. Best regards,
?

Re: Closing the Yahoo group
There is one other use we recently discovered for the old Yahoo group. It can be used for an oversize image repository.
A member wanted to post a very useful large image on the groups.io site, but there wasn't room. Resampling the image (a map) down made it useless. So the moderator could temporarily allow posting so we could use to old group to save the large image. Members who hadn't unsubscribed from the old group were then able to go there to see/download the file. Dano |

Is groups.io really unsuitable for my needs?
Gaute Amundsen
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi all.I just signed up to set up a list for parents in the school our sons go to. Everything there now happens with big nasty CC or BCC lists, and there is a strong "gravitation" towards starting a Facebook group, which I'm trying to forestall. However I'm starting to doubt whether groups.io is a suitable tool for what I want to do. I have a few requirements:
After spending an hour testing groups.io it seems that only the first of my point can be satisfied here. Considering the press that groups.io has been getting, this is a bit surprising to me, and so I would be happy if someone more knowledgeable can confirm my understanding. Regards Gaute Amundsen |

Shal,
I will try that, thanks! ive figures out how to make the ¡°table of my topics page¡± but when making a true ToC, what is the first line of garbage that appears in brackets (understand it¡¯s part of the coding for sub heading levels) but WHY???? and can I make it vaporize? ?(Other than white on white text) ? |

Re: Wiki
Yep Ken, this is another case of innocuous inline styles being stripped by the wiki editor upon save. Been there, done that, have already complained about it in beta.
Meanwhile, I've found that I've had more success using deprecated constructs such as img align="center". I believe this still works in all browsers but that could [of course] change someday. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

The last mention I can find of any problems with Slack was late February last year, .? It was working in late January of this year, /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/9586833.

Members show up as both members and invitees (unaccepted)
Some of the invitees who have joined (possibly not through the invitation process but separately via web or subscription email) are still showing up as "invited" instead of "accepted".? Where can I suggest that when the IT people get some time there could be a process to check if when someone subscribes that their email address is matched to an invited email address so that this information is updated. |

Re: #membership

At this time, it appears as though the advertised feature to sync between a Slack group membership list a groups.io membership list is not implemented or supported.? If this is wrong, please reply. ? For the UNB Amateur Radio Club, I have groups named unbamateurradioclub in both systems.? I expect that these lists will evolve differently and have different uses as groups.io posts are archived indefinitely and for unpaid Slack groups only the most recent ten thousand messages maybe searched. |

Seemed stupid to me at the time, but such was the state of YahooGroups. I did not delete the lists. Roughly five years before I shuttered my lists, several similar lists closed their doors, with the list-owner deleting them. Re: Wiki
Ken,
I wanted them centered but to no avail ¡ª whatever I tried they revertI had that problem trying to manipulate the code, but I found that the centering button in the WYSIWYG editor works, but seems to require that you include at least a blank paragraph above the image in the selection when you center it. In the code that seems to make the image part of that paragraph. That's probably a bug, or a little nest of them. Also, you don't necessarily need the revision date on the bottom line, the wiki page has it automatically at the top right. Re: Wiki
I tried copy/paste a page from a Mediawiki page:
Notice the top of the page links to the actual pdf that the member composed. More on that later. ?? The result wasn¡¯t great. I had to do a bit of reformatting and had to handle the photos individually (upload, place, size, etc). I wanted them centered but to no avail ¡ª whatever I tried they revert bank to slammed left margin. Not fatal, but not great.? /g/catalina30/wiki/Repairing-an-AquaLift-muffler-%28with-pictures%29 Note That I also link to the pdf. Mediawiki handles media content (pics, pdf, whatever) SO MUCH better than IO. I had to load the pdf into the IO FILES section and link to it. Not ideal (I created a folder something like ¡±wiki content¡± to hold wiki files. I could have linked to the original pdf location, but you know how that goes with future dead links, etc.? My suggestion is, if you want a serious wiki site with bells and all that, find a place to host MediaWiki and create a permalink to it on an anchored IO wiki page. ?BUT Mediawiki is not WYSIWYG like IO (you¡¯ll need to get used to using wiki markup language). ? So there¡¯s always loads of trade offs! |

Re: Closing the Yahoo group
Thanks for taking the time to respond,?Vijay. I think it was just a blip that members posted to Yahoo. Maybe returning from holiday. I think the moderating idea will prevent/alert members from posting there much longer.

Good suggestion. Thanks. Of course, it takes the same amount of my time for me to unsubscribe them as it does to send them an email referring them to the unsubscribe address. Oh, well.
