Re: Replies set to Group but users are getting senders email address in From
That's the way it works (intended behavior) and a suggestion to hide them is on the todo list.

You create a New Topic. At the top of the screen you have the option of New Topic or New Poll. Chose New Poll , give it a title, pose the question and then enter the various answers the users are to choose from. Liam? How do I create polls?? |
Replies set to Group but users are getting senders email address in From
Hi all,
My group has the settings that replies is set to Group but messages sent are showing the senders email address instead of the [email protected] Have I missed a setting or is there a bug? Liam |
Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam

Flag them and then set them to no mail. That way they can be identified by the owner/moderator and they can address this with the user in question. It also stops any more messages going to them. I have seen Yahoo flag messages for no apparent reason coming from .? I suspect it's on purpose as they are loosing so many to . I have even seen messages on Yahoo groups that are blocked, delayed and even bounced when is mentioned. The suggested alternative was to put those members affected on to No emails, so that they would still have web access. You have brought a "third way" into the discussion, and as Duane states it is a route that could lead to all sorts of trouble. Not a good idea IMHO. Whatever happens there has to be something that stops emails being sent to members where there has been a "spam" marker until such time as something has been done by that member to sort things out. Your idea doesn't address that. Chris |

Excellent! Thanks for letting me know. Given Yahoo's history and their recent switch to Oath, whatever that is, I suspected there would be a problem. I won't panic yet then! Thanks again! 1.? Mark tries to take weekends off, so it may be Monday or later before the invitation is accepted.
2.? I'd wait at least a week before sending the invite again since there are sometimes surges in the number of requests.? Pending Group Transfer Questions
Pam
Hello All! Me again! I'm not so very tech savvy that I might need some help. And please forgive if I'm repeating questions others have asked before me, lol. But here they are: 1. How long does it take for ?[email protected] to accept an invitation to a group? I started the process of transfering my four Yahoo groups yesterday, sent invites to each one, and haven't received notification of new members. And they don't appear in my member lists there. This is probably a Yahoo thing, isn't it... *sigh* 2. How long should I wait before I send the invites again? I see a note on the page that Yahoo is having issues, surprise surprise. Once they are made a mod, how do I check on the pending transfer? I don't see any place to do that. Again, apologies if these are questions that have been answered over and over. I'm still learning all this stuff. So far I'm loving it, but I can see from these threads I have a lot to learn? :) Thanks! Pam? :) |

I prefer the non delete suggestion, just flag them as marking as spam Since none of us know the inner workings of the FBL mechanism on the various sites, I can see this leading to a problem for groups.io.? If the member weren't removed, a moderator, either intentionally or accidentally, could send a message to them via this site that could lead to the site being blocked by at least the member's service for all users of groups here.? There must be some limit before that happens, but when the limit is reached, one more message would trigger it. Shal; thanks for your recent edits. The ToC is a good idea, the addition to "Notifications" ditto, and the reworked Service Providers list is certainly more informative.
I had held off from deleting the expired Notifications for no really identifiable reason, so thanks for that as well. I had a look at the activity log on the Group I moderate, and it was clear that aol had by far the greatest number of deletions, but of course that may be a reflection of how many users were using aol, rather than any indication that aol has the most aggressive spam spotter. Now all that is needed is to get Owners and Moderators to copy it into their own wiki sections. Two groups of which I am a member have no wikis at all, and ignored an email I sent to their owners about this problem completely; not even an acknowledgement. Regards, Chris... going off to copy the latest version into "my" group. |
Re: Message editor acting funky
I must be losing my mind. I could have sworn that there used to be a large "attachments" button at the bottom, next to Discard. Now I see there's an attachments icon on the menu bar. Has it always been that way? Am I conflating groups.io with Yahoo or some other system?
Nope, it's not Yahoo. Editor looks very similar... Gerald, I owe you [and probably a lot of other people] an apology. I need to go hiking or mow the lawn or something and get my butt out from behind this computer for awhile...before I go even more stark-raving mad than I already am. [sigh] Bruce |

I just sent a message in a different Group from the .IO WEB site poster page,

Just the act of of putting an emailed posting into a spam folder does not trigger this event. That literally depends upon the ESP. Some send the report, as soon as the email in the spam folder is deleted. Others, as soon as the message hits the spam folder. And with still others, nothing happens. A short and incomplete list of organizations that allegedly offer FBLs are: * AOL * Bluetie/Excite * Comcast * Cox * Earthlink * Fastmail * Hotmail * IBM SmartCloud * OpenSRS/Tucows * Mail.com * Mail.ru * * Rackspace (formerly Mailtrust) * RoadRunner/Time Warner * Synacor * Terra * USA.NET * United Online/Juno/Netzero * Yahoo! * Zoho.com * Italia Online * GMail I'll grant that calling GMails offering an FBL might be a bit of a stretch. OTOH, it would enable Mark to more easily identify "problem lists". (If I understood the PostMaster Display Board, it looks like it can be narrowed down to the specific email, if the appropriate header format is used by Groups.IO) I don't have a list of email domains that those ESPs provide. I don't know what sort of hoops are required, to sign up for the FBLs. ##### CC because my impression is that Mark does not have a list of ESPs that offer FBLs. jonathon |
Thank you for both clarifications. But unfortunately they are a moot point. With 800 subscribers and the initial 50 bounced and 39 still bounced, I think my group is reasonably representative, and that is the point. 50 of 800 is 6.25%. He reasonably could 3,500 ¨C 4,000 members affected. Brrrr! ? Andy just needs to look before he leaps and make an informed decision on this issue. Search the GMF archive; there are dozens of postings pro and con on this issue.Paul; the most recent of those postings are gathered in the Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam thread with a Poll attached further down the front page, assuming that you read this on the web UI rather than by email. It currently stands at 89 posts and may or may not grow further. Out of that topic a fairly comprehensive wiki page has been written, and as whoever moderated your post said "See the wiki page about it"; it may not be immediately obvious but the moderator put a link there for you, and it's in the pasted version here as well. While noting that it is still technically a "work in progress" I don't think there is much more that will be done with it; it is certainly comprehensive enough for you to paste into your own group's wiki. Once you have done that? I also suggest that you send out a post drawing your members' attention to it, and make that post "sticky" so that it remains in view on the group web UI. A suitable hashtag against it will also help; I use Group_Management. IMHO important topics such as "members being deleted..." show up what I would regard as a major weakness in people relying on email access rather than the web UI. Emails are quite ephemeral; they come, they go and will often be forgotten about not much later, so an email containing important "Group Management" information gets forgotten along with the rest. Using the web UI means that "sticky topics" with a hashtag in an eye - grabbing colour will act as reminders every time someone accesses the group via the UI; that simply won't happen with email access. Having said that I daresay that expecting people to use the web UI in the days of smart phones is simply expecting too much, sad to say... in my view it is much more useful. Regards, Chris |
