Re: Member Mad that she got Unsubbed
Remember: AOL and Yahoo are both owned by Verizon now.? Neither has any particular reason to be "generous" to groups.io or any other competition for that matter.? The same rules apply about checking your spam/junk folders and making sure your system marks groups.io as safe or put on a white list.

Re: Photo album deletion
Bruce,
You temporarily upload a file that's 490 MB in size, so essentially all your allotted storage is taken up by files and photo albums. I admit I haven't tested it, but it is my expectation that upload would be rejected for putting your group over its quota. Because I think the quota it would test against includes your extant attachments. ? I hope I'm making sense. You're making sense. I just have my doubts that the system will let you do that. Now maybe if that fails it would be reasonable to request (on beta) that it be allowed to succeed, with some kind of warning (maybe even an "Are you sure?" popup) that the consequence will be the deletion of X amount of attachments. That I could see as a useful feature, even if you didn't intend to promptly delete the file. Or rather, especially if the content of that file (or photo) is more useful to the group than those attachments. You temporarily upload a file that's 490 MB in size, so essentially all your allotted storage is taken up by files and photo albums. The system sees that your attachment queue puts you over the limit, and deletes the oldest 290 MB of them, at which point you delete the file you uploaded. Voila'! You have purged the attachments without having to resort to deleting them one by one. I hope I'm making sense. Bruce |

I think the OP's request is unusual in the sense that it rarelyIf you limit your scope to things that are called DMs or PMs it may seem rare, but side conversations that are not mailed to everyone, yet remain "on the record" may be more common generally than we imagine. At one extreme, it could be implemented as a topic which the OP is able to mute for all but the targeted recipient(s). Though I don't know if that would match Deb's intended use or not. I think no user would expect that a record of their DM's, or PMs, orThat's true - user expectations would have to be carefully managed. Whatever the feature were eventually called, and how it would be described in the web pages that implement it would have to make the "on the record" nature of these member-to-messages plainly obvious. And I think it should not be available. That's fine. Perhaps you could even disable the feature in your groups. Still, I don't mind exploring the idea here just to see how it fleshes out. Re: Calender
Bill,
On the other hand, the "Send Notice to Group when Event Happens"It is actually posted to the group as a message. So in that sense the word "Notice" on that checkbox is misused, it should say "post a message" or something more like that. In our case, it's much to late to notify or even remind anyone whoIn my classmate groups we use them for birthdays and anniversaries, which we set as all-day events. No one is expected to mail cards or gifts so the advance notice of a reminder is not needed, but the on-list well-wishes sometimes spark more substantive conversations. In my family group, where physical tokens might be exchanged, I use a one-week advance reminder plus the message when event happens. I don't know of any. Facebook, Twitter, DM or PM, these messages are private. I think the OP's request is unusual in the sense that it rarely exists, AFAIK, and as far as other users know, and I'd be surprised if Mark would even consider implementing it, if it includes the means for moderators to see these messages. Re: messages between individuals
Deb,
The thought behind my request was that it would be good for us to haveWhat kind of record are you imagining? One thing would be to have an entry in the group's activity log that gives the basic metadata of the message: who and when, and maybe the Subject line. Notably, the existing Private reply mechanism does not do even that: no activity log entry is created. A much more comprehensive thing would be to have a message list somewhere that includes the content of the messages. Re: messages between individuals
Duane, markus,
In that case, a chat could work. If you have a record, I don't seeThat pesky word "private" again. Note that Deb, the OP, asked for an on-site means to _direct_ message from member to member - privacy was not mentioned, and in her follow up she said that idea behind the request was to have a record of the side conversation. So complete privacy is explicitly not desired in her use case. In fact, given her goal none of the existing mechanisms are suitable - except maybe for chat. Direct emails are recorded nowhere except by the individuals involved, and the Private reply feature in Groups.io does not create a record of what was said.
