New member trying to transfer large group from YG to GroupIO

Having trouble getting started.? Looking for Customer Service.? Is there one?

disappearing groups??

I noticed just now that at least four of the groups that I'm a part of no longer show up under "your groups". ?One is the beta group, and three are others are with a cancer support organization. ?Another moderator tells me that I'm still listed as being part of all three of those groups with full privileges. ?Any ideas what's going on?

Re: Mass update of moderation status #moderation

My reasoning for making the change is to be consistent.

(a) I don't have any users purposefully moderated
(b) I like the consistency of just approving messages and letting users get un-moderated instead of manually removing moderation

That said, I'm not going to touch all of the members.? I should have said that originally.? My comment was meant that should I need to make changes, I would have to touch a lot of members.

Ideally, I'd like to see the ability to (a) filter users by moderation type, and (b) select all users from a filtered list to make changes instead of only those I can see on the screen at that time.? An alternative to (b) would be an option to display all users on the screen at one time (filtered or not)

I've seen the case made that it indicates that recipients do not have
permission to archive the email, and as such, doing so is a copyright
violation. As such, its has uses far beyond that of Usenet.

Re: How do I download an image into an album on my groups.io ?

Thank you, Shal.? I have a demur at the word "easy." I think I?have got the hang of the pictures (there's a metaphoric use of language) and how to put in essays in the files now.? Ellen

Yes, Duane sent you a link to one of GMF's Wiki pages.

> What is the wiki page?

It is a feature of Groups.io groups which Yahoo Groups do not have. If you visit GMF's pages, you'll see a button for "Wiki" down at the bottom of the left-column list. Its icon is a book.

The Wiki feature contains a collection web pages which can be written by the members of the group (if that is allowed by the group's settings). Editing a wiki page uses an interface that is very similar to editing a message.

GMF uses its Wiki to contain a collection of pages with reference and advice information about using Groups.io's features and about managing Groups.io groups.

The name "wiki", if you're curious, comes from Hawaiian, where "wiki wiki" means "quick". So wiki pages are "quick" pages - pages that are quick and easy to create and to update.

Re: Can a calendar event be set to repeat on first Wednesday of every month.

Yes it can be done easily, but it's not really intuitive (until you've used it a few times. ;>)? Click on the first Wednesday of a month, fill in the first 2 boxes (Event, Date and Time), on the 3rd box (Repeats) set it to Monthly, then set Repeat Every to 1, and select 'Repeat by day of the week'.? Once you've made your selections, there will be a Repeat Summary at the bottom of the Repeats box where you can make sure it will do what you want.

X-No-Archive is really only needed for Usenet posts where they can be
archived by various places (like Google or Narkive).

Although Mailman supports it for its archive, I'm not aware of any other
mailing list software that does. It has little point in a YG/GIO
environment as the message writer can always delete their own messages anyway.

Yes, of course. But they are blank even when the pending subscription and confirmation emails were the ONLY things that were (conceivably) sent. Perhaps the problem is that the confirmation email is not considered a delivered email. However, in my recent testing I've discovered that in some cases, the pending subscription notice is not sent until after the member confirms. So I know that in these cases, when the member has responded to the pending member notice (and therefore has received it), and NOTHING shows in the email delivery history, that NEITHER the confirmation email nor the pending subscription notice is - I'm trying not to say logged because yes, yes, I know it's not a log - neither is considered an email delivery or recorded on the page as such.

I think the need for either a textbox or a web-questionnaire is *extremely* pressing. ?Given the problematic conditions around the pending subscription notice that have existed ever since its inception. I think that's the only thing that will satisfactorily do the job.

Re: Photo album deletion

Don,

I thought about that idea too, but it raised a question to me. Does
Out of Space mean out of space for all pictures (Photo Albums and
Attachments) or just attachments?
Those and files too:

FWIW I don't think Bruce's suggestion would work. I think the attempt to upload a file that puts your group over quota would likely fail. That's a simple way to avoid the need to delete anything.

Re: Tracking Pending Member and Welcome Messages

J,

I currently have two pending members, neither of which shows any email
delivery history.
One problem may be that the fields in the Email Delivery History are not what I'd call a log - they show at most the one most recent result. I suspect that just about any activity by that email address, even in other groups, might supersede the "most recent" perhaps leaving it blank.

The other issue is one of delay: success is not recorded promptly. The example Duane & I cited was blank initially, but showed up in something less than 24 hours. I'm not sure how much less because I wasn't looking frequently. And Lily's observation implies the delay could be much longer.

... debating what to do about it - ... contact Mark? etc.
I'm not sure exactly what to suggest if you contact him. But it really feels like moderators need some way of reliably obtaining some indication of the message's status.

Maybe the Email Delivery History needs a section for "pending" deliveries - those that haven't yet succeeded or failed. Because some email services do routinely defer the first delivery attempt, forcing the sender to retry ("greylisting").

I know that one of them received the pending member
notice, because they responded to it.
Cases like that can't be explained by delay. And it seems unlikely that so many are cases of the history being superseded by other activity. So, quite apart from any actual delivery issues there may be, maybe there is an problem with how the Email Delivery History information gets updated.

Re: Using Apple Mail receives return -- Cannot Send Mail; the recipient "[email protected]" was rejected by the server.

Collette,

When she tries to send from Apple Mail (maybe from her iPhone) she
gets a box stating Cannot Send Mail; the recipient
"[email protected]" was rejected by the server. I clearly need to
get back with her and check that I have the scenario correct.
I don't know Apple Mail, but there ought to be more to the error message than this. In particular, there should be a three-digit error number followed by a text description of why the message was rejected. That information might clear this up.

I'll ask her if her Apple ID is different than her GMAIL although I
would have thought that someone sending from an email not on the
member list would have produced a different error message. ???
Indeed, what Groups.io reported would be different, it would specify that the sender is not a member of the group. But how their response is packaged and presented by Apple Mail is something I'm not familiar with. Possibly the more detailed message is in the box, or available through it somehow.

Sure, it is the official "suggestion box", open to all. You have to join the group to post, but membership is not restricted.

Hi Shal,

Yahoo Groups provided a "Last Wednesday of the month" option and that is the one thing I needed before moving over to groups.io.

Can I post in the "beta" group?

Thanks,
