Maybe in North America, but until the internet became widespread I knew it only
as a sharp sign in music notation. The standard abbreviation for number this
side of the pond was, and still is "no."

Someday people will not know how to use the Hash sign as it was universally

All,

Bruce wrote:

Particularly unlikely in that Mark is not a member of this group.

The essential questions Stan is asking can't be answered by any of us "on the outside" with anything other than speculation and hopes.

That said, Mark did touch upon these issues (long ago) publicly in beta and in more detail privately to some who had asked. But that was some years ago and some things have changed quite a bit (like the number of groups and users at Groups.io). So maybe it is time for someone to ask Mark directly.

But because he's not a member you can't do that here.

But we've strayed pretty far from the subject line, haven't we?
Yes, yes we have.

So lets get on with our mission of helping each other be better moderators.

How do I make message or file repeat

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I would like to make a message that just goes out to new subscribers to the group when they join.? Another one as a mid-month reminder of projects and such.

Is there a way to do that and have them send automatically when a member joins or on a certain set day of the month??

I think you answered your own question. This is not a government operation...Mark IS groups.io. Perhaps he will weigh into this discussion and let us know what his continuity plans are, but I doubt it. Perhaps he will submit to a physical exam at the physician of our choice and undergo a psychological evaluation to show he isn't suicidal for the benefit of our community, but I doubt that will happen, either.

So the ball is in [each of our's] court, and we have this choice:

-- One system that's getting ongoing upgrades but has a mildly uncertain future (GIO).
-- Another that's already sporadically functional [at best] and providing no user support at all (Y!G).
-- A third that each group owner has to kludge together himself with hyperlinks and shared drives and such (Google).
-- Facebook? Eech.

I'm here, so I guess I made my choice. If continuity is someone else's primary concern then perhaps they should go in another direction.

But we've strayed pretty far from the subject line, haven't we? Back on-topic, the Norton/AVG problem was a fluke. It might come back, but I suspect it won't be a persistent problem, especially if those in the GIO community have the good sense to complain about it to the right people.

Re: Continuity of IO

Stan this is in no way comparable to a state government.

If you feel so insecure about Groups.io, then you either need to stay at Yahoo or go elsewhere.

I can pretty much guarantee at some point Yahoo is going to crash and burn.? If you want an example, Yahoo photos and message posting was out 3 days last week.? Groups.io was down for only 2 hours.? Mark does a far superior job to support and meeting owners expectations than does all the many people Yahoo has on staff.?

As for me and my group, we are delighted at the support that Mark provides as well as listening to and reacting to owners requests.

Thanks. However, I followed what you did, and when I click on Identity this blasted image of Arnold is still there. I removed it, again. Maybe it will be permanent since I got to it in a different way, the one you mentioned.

Re: Using Activity log

I checked my groups. I can see members changing email addresses, adding alias email addresses, unsubscribing via the web (left), and more. This is through the Member Activity tab in Admin, Activity. There is a search box too.

I am assuming that the member wishes to unsubscribe from your group.?
If it is to stop email but keep being subscribed to the group, your member should use Change Your Subscription command in the email footer.?
I changed a member status in my test group (but online) - and I could see that in the Moderator Activity tab.
Hope this helps!

I tried to see what the member would get when they unsubscribe via email. I was brought to the group - it "knew" me already so I didn't log in. There were several options including changing frequency of emails.
