Who Can View And Modify Databases

When the permission ¡°Subscribers can view and create tables¡± is selected does that mean any subscriber can modify any existing database table or just the one the subscriber creates?

1 GB limit and removing stuff to make more room?

Excuse the dumb question, but is the 1 GB limit a monthly use limit, or does it mean that all attachments ever posted to a group count towards the limit? And in that case, how do I delete photo and other attachments so that I don't keep reaching the limit?

Hello Adrien,

?

To make someone a moderator, go to members under the Admin section.? After you click on members, click on the member you want to make moderator.? You will see a section about half way down the page after you click on the member that says role.? Click on the down arrow, select moderator, go to the bottom of the page and save.

?

As for repeating every month group rules, I believe that has to be schedule through the calendar.? Someone else can probably help you better than I can with that.

?

Doug

"Whoever wrote these instructions" is Mark, who is doing a stellar job trying to keep up with YAHOO's problems which are not his fault.

Re: a new member and some help please

Hi Adrien,

Firstly, on the members list, how do I make a member a moderator?

Click on the member's row, anywhere except the checkbox, then change the Role setting.
?

Secondly, how do I set-up my group to send out the monthly files to send out the rules etc?

Not as files here. Use either a Member Notice of type Guidelines or a calendar entry.

I can get the Yahoo invitation to go out, but only by first refreshing the invitation page. Your mileage may vary.

Are you certain of that? Perhaps it was delivered to your spam folder,
or some other location of your email service's choosing.
Thanks. It was not in spam. I was also asked to allow it and the sender first.

Another possibility is that the hashtag you used has the No Email option
checked. That would prevent email distribution of the message.
The hashtag didn't have that checked. Or any other of the options. Plain vanilla.

Was it the same hashtag?
Yes

Our plan is to have a New Photos?album in the meantime. I¡¯d say probably to be deleted after a week (or month). People will load 2 photos - the same photo in it and their personal album.

One of our monitors loads photos into her personal album with a title starting from 999.
(Like 999 front view, 998 back view, 997 top view). That way her most recent picture is first in her album.

I experienced the same thing, then three days later "[email protected] was
added to my Yahoo groups. In the meantime I had already done a manual
invite. Yahoo is screwy!

Subject: [GMF] Can't invite

I attempted to invite [email protected] to a yahoo discussion group, but I
get a message that says "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the
content."

I believe "content" is the [email protected] email address I entered in the
dialogue box to invite members.

For the io group to be able to move all the members from the yahoo
discussion group to the new groups.io discussion group, [email protected]
needs to be a member and moderator of the yahoo group but I cannot send the
invite to [email protected]. Will [email protected] respond to a personal
email message to join?

Re: Subgroup creation, better before or after Yahoo transfer?

I would create at least one subgroup when you create the list because creating the subgroup changes the address of the main group:

Initial group name: [name]@groups.io

Subgroup created: facilities@[name].groups.io

After subgroup created the main list becomes: main@[name].groups.io

Messages to [email protected] are still delivered but when the directions use one name and that name is changed to something else, people get confused. Logically, two names means they are two different things.

It¡¯s also hard to go back and correct all the references in the instructions to the new name. That happened to me yesterday when I had shortened the name of a brand new list and didn¡¯t realize that the intro message still had the old name. When the first member tried to visit the group¡¯s website using the links, the site said the group didn¡¯t exist.

Most important is that after the subgroup is created, you can change ¡°main¡± to another name which makes more sense to your group. For members who never use the subgroups, or even don¡¯t know they exist, ¡°main¡± means nothing. It¡¯s also confusing to have an address changed midstream to main@[name].groups.io when that has not been the naming convention at Yahoo, etc., where they have 20 years of experience.

Do it before you write any directions and make any announcements.

Re: Subgroup creation, better before or after Yahoo transfer?

My advice would be to create at least one sub-group before the migration (if not too late for you) - so your 'primary' group is already established logically as a sub-group of your group (which it will become when the first sub-group is created), and avoid potential confusion for your members if this change happens after the migration.

Re: Messages not always emailed #issue

Norm,

I created a message to my trial group. The first time I posted it, the
message showed up in my site message list, but did not go out as an
email.
Are you certain of that? Perhaps it was delivered to your spam folder, or some other location of your email service's choosing.

I have set that topics must include a hashtag, and in the first
iteration, I added the hashtag behind the subject.
Another possibility is that the hashtag you used has the No Email option checked. That would prevent email distribution of the message.

See the help section J cited for details:
/static/help#hashtags

When I reposted the message placing the hashtag at the front of the
subject, the post and email went through correctly to all members.
Was it the same hashtag?

Must the hashtag come first, before the subject?
No. In fact typical usage is to put them at the end.
