Owner can't change owner of a subgroup?
Glenn Glazer
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe have subgroups for subcommittees of our committee. Naturally, I am not on every subcommittee and don't want/need/should have emails from every subcommittee. So, as owner of the main group when I created each subcommittee, I made the subcommittee chair the owner of the subgroup and for the subcommittees I am not on, removed myself. Now, the chairs of one of the subcommittees has changed. I can access the subgroup members list, but I cannot change the owner. The actions list I see is for the new chair after adding them to the subgroup is: and if I try to remove the current one, I get "The member cannot be removed because they are the sole owner of the group." which is logical enough. Adding myself back to the subgroup does not permit me to escalate myself back to owner. I don't see anything the owners manual or wiki that addresses this. Suggestions welcome. Best, Glenn P.S. The current subgroup owner is very non-technical, which is why they are asking me to do this for them. Otherwise, I would just tell them the steps instead of trying to do it for them. |
Re: Spam!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWow, I stand corrected them. I didn't think that was possible. And I do read the every day change log that comes out on Fridays. And I didn't think that was one of the things that Mark had added. So I do apologize

Re: Spam!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou can't ban it after the person has already been removed. So this wouldn't work in Davy's case.

I suggest banning it.Bruce, that's a good point and I hadn't thought about it. I had this exact thing happen in one of my groups (the "Do you have an amazon account" ploy). I put the subscriber on moderation until she could fix the problem. I don't think banning is necessary, though, unless the person ends up needing to get a new email address. Thanks, Pete |

is there any setting to turn off posting via email address for the group? Or putting just those type post via group email address ?on moderate? ?Would like to prevent any individual subscribers from replying directly back to a problem. Not much you can do now, I think. You can remove private replies. Change "Remove Other Reply Options". This stops future emails from being "replied all". Make sure your settings are for reply to group. See this on message policies: /helpcenter/gettingstarted/1/step-4-customize-the-group-s-settings/group-settings You can lock or set individual messages to Moderate. This would stop further replies to this specific message. Open the message and use the dropdown menu in the down arrow. And of course, you can delete the topic. Thank you. Did notify them and getting them set up with different email address, which will put on moderate. |
Re: Spam!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello I don't think you need to worry about doing anything. Especially if you've already removed the accounting question. I think before doing so, I would've contacted the members of and let them know that their account has been hacked that way they can change their password

Thank you all for your help.
Malcolm Austen:
Malcom, if you point me to your request I will support it, for what it's worth. I think that a Claim button on pending messages is needed, not only for reasons of consistency with pending membership, but also because Edit and Claim are two different things and one does not necessarily imply the other.
