How about not allowing attachments in the first place in your group settings?

Hi all, is this useful?

I know with our ISP we get quicker service with online chats than with phone calls. At least we can save the conversation!

If enough Comcast subscribers called tech support and often enough to bother
them about this, it might get fed upstream and might be fixed.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can use "good" and "comcast" in the same sentence. I administer a listserv?environment (real L-Soft listserv) and I have constant problems with perfectly legitimate posts being blocked by Comcast as spam, and no way to communicate with anyone about it. I advise my comcast subscribers to use a different email provider, at least for the list messages.

Thanks Frances,
?
I thought I had done this. But checked and 'strip all different fonts and colours from html emails' was ticked!? Don't know if that happened with an update, but all sorted now. FYI anyone needing to do this, it has to be done for each group you have, it's not a global setting.

Check Admin, Settings. Message Formatting:

Force HTML Emails
Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option.
Normalize HTML Emails
Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails.
Plain Text Only
Strip out HTML messages.

Lew -- I don't know of anyone who has done this. Although it could work, individual subscribers do have the option of leaving at any time, changing their email address or Display Name, etc. I think it could prove difficult to keep track of.

Is there a way to setup alerts when the membership is about expire??
I'm not aware of any way to set up a subscription expiration date, much less alert you of it.

No Email Formatting vsible

Hi,

When I and group members apply formatting to an email (italics, bold etc), it does not appear when the email is received via Groups.io. I'm sure I set this somewhere (forget where it was) to allow this in messages. But it's not happening

How can I enable this?

Thanks,
Lynda

Using Donation to collect club dues #donations

I apologize if this is not an appropriate question for this group.
?
We are currently using membership management site to collect our club dues. It¡¯s not bad, but it¡¯s expensive and has many features we not using. I¡¯d much rather spend that money to upgrade here at GIO.?

Re: Problem receiving io group mail

I am also utilising iiNet as my ISP.? I called them on January 31 to be told that it was an IncrediMail problem or a problem with my PC and not an iiNet problem.

Since that time I have sent out mail to my Groups (outwards mail goes but inwards doesn't come in) and a friend suggested this topic.? I have had a look and have spoken with my Technicians at the Company we use.? I have sent this mail to iiNet and I quote:

"I am not a very happy customer at all.? After being with Ozemail since it¡¯s inception (no, not joking) and staying with you for all these years (1987 or 1988 till now) I am now facing having to change to an organisation who will unblock the domain of my Groups.io.

Since 25 January I have not received any emails from the domain @groups.io.? I thought it may have been a problem with the NBN and thunderstorms however, on 31 January I did contact the Support personnel in Cape Town.? Sadly the person to whom I spoke said it was not an iiNet problem and offered no other thoughts.? I was in the middle of cooking lunch when she rang back and I couldn¡¯t stop so discontinued the call.?

Since that time I have done some digging of my own, reading up on the Group Managers Forum in Groups.io and that it appears that all iiNet customers utilising the domain @groups.io have been locked out.? Therefore I would like you to do the following please:

Firstly, check with your mail server filter to not block the domain @groups.io in both my account and all other accounts which use that domain or do I have to get them to write to you (good luck with the thousands of mails you will have to cope with ?).

Once that has been unblocked please add @groups.io as a safe sender in my iiNet mailbox for my email address of janetb@....? Please note that I am sending this mail to you from my alternate email address ¨C I do not use this address (j_bullard1944@...) for Group mails.

Once you have done this then I hopefully won¡¯t need to change ISP.

Thank you,

Janet"

The only things I have removed are the extra hard returns between paragraphs.? I sent this with "High Importance" and now await their response.? Will let you all know - it's just not good enough for someone to arbitrarily block @groups.io and cut off everyone's enjoyment of their Group mail.

Let's all hope for a good result.

Cheers,
Janet

Bruce Bowman:
Marina -- The only way I've had this happen is if I set the default editor to Plain Text in my personal account preferences (/account?page=prefs). Having done so, any Member Notice you create will remain in that format until deleted/superseded. So you must have done that at some point.?
That's it! I vaguely remembered changing my setting at some point, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Maria -- You're confusing groups with accounts. The two are unrelated, except to the extent that an account can own a group.

You can export a group for backup purposes only (/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/exporting-or-downloading-your-group-s-data). There is no corresponding import function, as a subgroup or otherwise. To do that you will need to contact groups.io support at [email protected]?.

If I recall correctly, he has previously offered to do this for others in return for a year of Premium ($220), but I'm currently unable to find example of it. Since you're planning to upgrade to Premium anyway that shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

1.? Upgrade?Members Area group to a paid premium subscription (90 members and 21 MB storage).?

2.? Create new Directors subgroup under Members Area group.

You might create a locked topic notice - in Admin, Settings, Member Notices.
You can clearly explain why - on my community group we have this:

Sorry, but this topic has been locked.
?
This topic has run either its course or has grown contentious or is veering into co-op policy.
?
There are other actions available to you:
- contact Management or write to the Board of Directors
- contact the appropriate committee
?
You can also dispute this locking by emailing: ?

You might place this person on moderation and send him a warning. If he's not a
frequent poster, it might be worth the trouble of approving his posts to see it
doesn't happen again. If he knows he's being moderated, he may not try it again,
especially if you reject one of his posts for doing the same thing.

Bruce,?
thanks for your insight and comments on locked topics. I learned a couple of things. I Finally figured out what happened, I was CCed personally on the email which came through in the attempt to post to our message board. The message to our message board resulted in an error message to the sender.

I sure thought I had done it correctly.
I'm sure you probably did, but there are ways around the lock.

If someone forwards a message instead of replying -- or simply types a new message with the same subject line -- there will be no in-reply-to: field in the header. At that point groups.io will apply the threading algorithm found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/6321?(I'll let you read that on your own) to determine if the incoming message is actually part of an existing topic. If it doesn't meet the criteria, a new topic is started.

This is to accommodate brief, nondescript subject lines like "Need help" or "Check this out." You wouldn't want all such messages to be threaded into a single topic until the end of time. Or maybe you do, but most people don't.

Generally, please double-check to see that the new message is actually within the locked topic. Just because it has the same subject line doesn't mean it's in the same topic.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
