If someone
forwards a message instead of replying -- or simply types a new message with the same subject line -- there will be no in-reply-to: field in the header. At that point groups.io will apply the threading algorithm found at?
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/6321?(I'll let you read that on your own) to determine if the incoming message is actually part of an existing topic. If it doesn't meet the criteria, a new topic is started.
This is to accommodate brief, nondescript subject lines like "Need help" or "Check this out." You wouldn't want all such messages to be threaded into a single topic until the end of time. Or maybe you do, but most people don't.
Generally, please double-check to see that the new message is actually
within the locked topic. Just because it has the same subject line doesn't mean it's in the same topic.
