Mike,
If they were being removed for sending spam, the link in the sameI'm not sure what you meant to say, but in any case... Groups.io does not remove members for posting spam - it is left to each group's moderators to determine what is and is not allowed in their group (within the limits of the TOS). /static/tos Groups.io does block some inbound messages that are determined to be harmful (viruses & such) or from certain sources (that have been identified by Groups.io as bad actors). And I'm pretty sure it drops messages that arrive from email servers which can't be authenticated. Re: Continuous incorrect removals for supposed SPAM
Mike S (he/him or they/them)
The issue isn¡¯t that the member POSTED a spam message, but marked a message that they RECEIVED as spam.?
It¡¯s caused by one of two things:
Because these spam reports can cause all of Groups.io to be greylisted and therefore blocked for all subscribers that check the greylist, Groups.io has chosen to take this measure to reduce a slew of messages being marked that way by a single subscriber?
They do give a quick way to get back on the list,??but the message does seem confusing. I¡¯ve had several people send similar messages to us as well, thinking we¡¯d removed them for sending spam.? If they were being removed for sending spam, the link in the same email that allows them to get back online with just a click wouldn¡¯t be sent in the same email.? Subgroups - Confused
David Reynolds
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, I¡¯ve looked through the existing threads in this group, but still haven¡¯t found what I¡¯m looking for. I¡¯ve created a free group, which, when looking at what I get, says I can have subgroups. However, try as I might, I¡¯m unable to find the link to create a subgroup. I¡¯ve explored Admin and Settings, but all to no avail. Be aware that I¡¯m using a screen reader to access the web page. Generally, the groups.io interface is very accessible, but it may be that it is missing something. Any thoughts very much appreciated. ? David. |

Hi
I just checked on my test group. I uploaded a file with one email address. Changed that email address (using Account in top right corner). After the email address change, the file is now attributed to the new email address. Frances -- Help available from Groups.io help and GMF wiki. ? |
Re: changing owner email address?

I understand now what you want to do, and you may be doing it the hard way, I think a simple email change will take care of it, but it would depend on what you want/expect to happen: >>> will the files I uploaded from the first account now be seen as being uploaded from the second account? With your proposal, remember that account-merging the old>into>the>new will transfer ownership of the old account files (et al) into the new account, and when done the old email gio account will be auto-deleted, you don't have to do that yourself.? So in this case, the files would display as being uploaded from your new email account.? (Only in the activity log there will be historical entries showing the original old email address, no choice in this regardless of method)? Is this what you want to happen?? If yes, skip the process you describe and just do a simple email change, a lot easier.? If no, what do you want to take place then? Cheers, Christos ? |
Re: changing owner email address?
#owner
Thank you, Shal, for replying.? I tried to ask a generalized question, but you needed more specifics.
?
Your reply was based on the understandable assumption that one or both of my emails is being used also elsewhere on groups.io in other groups. But they are not.?
?
I apologize for not giving all the relevant info.
Here is more info which might change your response to my question:
?
The group is private so I will give you a fictitious group and fictitious emails as an example.
?
I created a private group named "privatespecifictopic.groups.io"
The email I created for the founding ownership of the group is "random123xyz@..."
I have never used that email address anywhere else on groups.io except for"specifictopic.groups.io"
I have already started the group named "privatespecifictopic.groups.io" with that email address, and I am the owner-founder.??
We¡¯ve been around for several months. I have uploaded hundreds of files via that owner account, but have not made any posts yet.? Some new members have joined by invitation and we are about to begin posting messages/emails/discussions.
This group is private.
?
I have a separate regular email address I use for my memberships in other groups at groups.io
?
Now I decide that I don¡¯t want to use the email address "random123xyz@..." for anything anymore.??
?
I have uploaded hundreds of files as "random123xyz@..." into the files area at "specifictopic.groups.io" -- but now I don¡¯t want those files to be associated with that email address.? (Even if I make the membership email addresses invisible to the members, I will still want to eventually appoint a moderator and I don¡¯t want the new moderator to see the "random123xyz@..." account which I had used to found the group. )
?
I decide to create a brand new email address called "hello123xyz@..."
I have never used this new email hello "123xyz@..." for groups.io anywhere.
?
Here is my proposal - What if did this:
?
1) Log out of groups.io from "random123xyz@..." which is the email that I'd used?
as owner-founder of my private group "privatespecifictopic.groups.io"?
?
2) Then join that same group "privatespecifictopic.groups.io" with the brand new email address "hello123xyz@..." which has never been used for groups.io before.
Then log out of groups.io completely.
?
3) Log back into the same private group "privatespecifictopic.groups.io"
with my original founding owner email "random123xyz@..."?
?
4) While logged into "privatespecifictopic.groups.io" as the original owner "random123xyz@..."?
I will make the new member "hello123xyz@..."?
into a second owner of "privatespecifictopic.groups.io" with all ownership privileges.
?
4a) Now I have two email addresses as owners of "privatespecifictopic.groups.io" with all the privileges.
?
5) Then merge the two email accounts as instructed in that wiki.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/16537
It is important to note that NEITHER email has ever been used anywhere on groups.io
?-- except at my private group "privatespecifictopic.groups.io"?? ?
Will I be able to merge the two owner accounts, and then delete the account I don't want used anymore, and will the files I uploaded from the first account now be seen as being uploaded from the second account? |
Re: changing owner email address?

Reachingout,
And then later I want change my personal email address .. can I changeYou can only change your email address in your Groups.io account, not in a single group or selected groups. Do that through the Email field on the Login page of your Account page. /helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/setting-account-preferences-and-viewing-account-information (see the item "Change your email address" in the section on changing account login elements). If I do that, will my messages and my file uploads show my new emailYes, they will continue to be associated with that account, despite the change of the account's email address. Generally speaking though the web interface will show your account's Display Name, if you've set one, rather than your email address. Set your Display Name on the Identity page of your account. (further down on that same help page, under "Customizing your Groups.io account profile and individual group profiles"). I read how to merge two accounts here:Merging accounts is a far different thing than changing the address of an account. Yes it is true that the ownership roles held by the address that no longer exists have been observed to disappear with that account. I think this is a bug, but it has resisted resolution. What if did this:Yes. But if your new address doesn't yet have an account (hasn't been used yet to join any Groups.io groups) then you should be able to simply change your existing account from the old address to the new, as above. From your question I'm going to guess that you've already tried this and been warned about merging. This happens when the new email address has already been used within the Groups.io system (and an account was automatically created for it). If the account associated with your new email address doesn't own any groups, and hasn't created valued content in any groups, then you may find it easier to delete the new account, and then change (not merge) you original account's email address to the new one. /helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/deleting-your-account Shal -- Help: /helpcenter More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

I read how to merge two accounts here:
?
That wiki entry says to beware of doing that as an owner!
?
What if did this:
?
1) Log out of all? of groups.io from my personal email that I'd used to start my groups.io group.
?
2)? Then Join the group with the new email address. Then log out.
?
3) Log back into into the same group with my existing personal email that is set up as? the founding owner.
?
4) While logged in as the original owner, make my new email address into a second owner with all privileges.
?
5) Then merge the two email accounts as instructed in that wiki.
Would that work? |
Re: changing owner email address?

I'm not so for sure, if you can change your email address and it will reflect the files I don't think it is possible. But you can go and change your email address, and it will be a change for all of your groups. Because you're changing the email address on your profile. If you don't want that email address to show up on those files I would change your email address before uploading them.

"Blocked" as in the attachment is not included in the email.? Our members do not want to have to log in to get the documents.? Many don't have Groups.IO accounts.
?
I just need to be able to change the max attachment size on each of the current members.? I can't find a way to do that.
